You know, if denim wasn't considered to be a modern cloth, I bet historians would rave over it. They would wax poetry over how it was such an elegant yet simple cloth. They would love how it was made for hard working people, how it faded to match their movements, making it more beautiful in the process. There would be entire essays explaining how even the common people got to dress nicely, and how that reflected on the whole society. How even the upper class used it on occasion, because it was just that good. What I'm saying is, you made a good choice.
@@SharmClucas 1873 was when jeans were patented and denim was popular before then, but the predecessor to demin; dungaree was popular for centuries before then. It's easier to track when the word came into usage (very early 1600's) than the fabric. < via wikipedia, though I've found similar info in other places
“…French seams, which in French are called English seams.” LOL! That does seem to describe the relationship between England and France for much of their histories! Thanks for this fun project. Found you via the great crossover episode with you and Bernadette and (on their channels) Hildegard von Blingen. Made my nerdy heart so happy!
The lining came out so beautifully and the entire outfit is gorgeous, I would not have thought the fabric was denim at all. And your ironing board is not ruined, it's ✨AESTHETIC ✨ now. My first sunburn was also during a vacation to a cloudy beach. I know now that the UV does not care about the clouds. Hope you have recovered!
For the record, denim was so popular in the Wild West because it is a durable fabric that just becomes softer the longer it's worn. Perfect for travel outfits!

I'm a year late to this video but WOW you did amazing work on this costume! I really love the coat and pants in particular, and actually feel they could make for the main parts of a very high fashion outfit as well as obviously being amazing in this costume.
This is beautiful! It turned out really well. I was reading an article recently, and the oldest surviving pants we've ever found utilize a twill weave. So does denim. I think the way you processed it using indigo and Shibori was a fantastic touch, and denim may have been a really inspired choice for old / modern travel clothes.
I half expected you to say "welcome to my crib" on your final shot... That is a really remarkable piece of sewing. The indigo dye... Well done. And I love it when Cos Tube collaborates. Right now I'm working on my first fully lined belt (I fell into a leatherworking shaped rabbit hole over the Holidays so I'm enjoying trying different techniques on overdesigned tool rolls to carry my leather tools out and about). Your corset belt is in the to-do cue-line. - Cathy (&, accidently, Steve), Ottawa/Bytown/Pimisi
Yesss! Finally a french costume designer adressing the confusion in the french seams, ou coutures a l'anglaise!! lovely costume, and that cape is amazing!!
The costume turned out great. When watching the reveal at the end I did a bit of a double take, because that park looked so familiar. I lived in Montpellier for a year and a half when I was a postdoc.
the pattern on the lining material turned out incredibly cool. I love the scale effect and the humanoid shape at the bottom with the scale effect seemingly radiating off of it was certainly a happy accident.
Ariel, thank you for being so creative and funny! Your videos make me laugh and I appreciate all the effort you go through without taking yourself too seriously ;) Merci, du Canada!
The basic outfit is excellent, a wonderful ensemble to wear. Your work on the extra armor pieces takes it into the character, but the various weights of denim work really well.
My favourite part is how professional the dyeing is ;)

Il est vraiment difficile de croire ce que vous pouvez faire avec quelques morceaux de tissu, d'imagination et de joie. Absolument merveilleux. Merci encore du fond du coeur, à bientôt.
The indigo on the coat turned out so well! I do like the subtle effect on the outside. I am very glad Bernadette mentioned you earlier. I've enjoyed every one of your videos.
This is much more useful than many of the original costumes from the show. You did a great job! The indigo is very beautiful. Again, your reveal is so much fun!
I love that you used denim. it's such a hard working cloth. durable, sturdy... not what is used for the original costume but with it's sturdieness it makes so much sense for travel clothes. actually now I wish it actually was denim for the original costume...
Hey ! J'adore ton travail et te voir travailler, je suis bien contente de t'avoir trouvé via bernadette ! J'ai particulièrement aimé ton jaskiet et ton travail de la ceinture de Moiraine. Hâte de voir ton travail du denim haha
I love this costume! Seeing all the steps has been super fun and I adore this coat.I even think the denim was a great choice, great hardy fabric for a travel outfit! Can’t wait for the next!
Loved watching this series, and this video was no different. It was really interesting to see you sew the dress and experiment with the patterns. The bolero is my favourite part of the outfit, but all the different parts was really engaging. Exquisite work!
Denim is hard on any machine. I'm not surprised it melted the belt. Excellent design and construction. It looks like it would be comfortable to travel in.
Absolutely love the whole outfit and would wear this in a heart beat! It is beautiful! You are very talented to make these pieces without a pattern Love how the shibori dying turned out. The cape, the pants, the bolero, the belt, the shirt….just gorgeous!💕 Sending best wishes from Down Under 💖💖🌺🌸🇦🇺😎
This is a beautiful outfit and it's giving me so many ideas. Love it! Dye-wise I adore the scale pattern you got and how it complimented the leather pieces. If you want to play more with shibori in the future, for the squiggly look you were going for maybe the technique done with rows of hand stitching called mokume, aka wood-grain. The dye rubbing off is called crocking, which happens generally when there's too much dye pigment left on the fiber and/or the mordant(fixative) was insufficient or ineffective. There's commercial products to deal with it, but I usually just end up doing lots of cold water washes and vinegar rinses. Hopefully helpful to you :)
Well done! When you said you were gonna use the denim, I was really surprised. I knew I would love it cuz I love all things denim but I honestly didn’t think it would turn out looking as much like Moraine as it did. The Shibori was genius and I love the scales on the lining and the subtle effect it had on the denim
I absolutely fkn love everything about this. The denim is an inspired choice.10/10 Watching you drape and just straight cut some of the pieces stopped my heart though!
Bonjour Ariel, Je te découvre grâce à Bernadette Banner 🤩 Ta cape me fait tellement envie 😄 ! Mais quel travail remarquable !!! Le corset aussi !! Bravo ! De plus, le montage vidéo est soigné 👍🏻 ! Merci pour toutes ces fabuleuses créations ! 🌸🌸🌸
I agree! It turned out amazing and I LOVE the dragon scale dying. I think I need to make a Brown, Gray or Yellow Sister outfit - they never get enough love IMO.
You did an absolutely FABULOUS job and it looks SPECTACULAR! CHEF'S KISS!! Congratulations!🥳 It was a lot of work, and it really shows. Exquisite! (I love how you just threw the pants together. I want to learn how to do that.)

This is funny because cotton twill and indigo dye aren't modern at all. I sometimes wonder if denim wasn't invented more than once in history.

The best denim outfit ever created! Also does not look like denim, especially from afar. A long-lasting travel outfit for sure.
Oh my gods I need to do both that dying… and need those pants and coat. The desire for patterns is STRONG.
For the record, denim was so popular in the Wild West because it is a durable fabric that just becomes softer the longer it's worn. Perfect for travel outfits!
The green screen parts had me ROLLING 😂😂 it looks wonderful!!
...9:44: We don't make mistakes, we have happy accidents! 😂 Bob Ross would love your work! Me too, by the way!
I am fully invested in this channel and that dying technique has given me an idea for a coat I wanna make.

I love how comfortable that looks. I would legit just wear that as normal clothes, no need to mention that it's a costume! Really cute.
I half expected you to say "welcome to my crib" on your final shot...

My mind is freaking BLOWN. How is that denim?! What? I don't-- I can't-- You broke my brain. 10/10

Oh my, I love the result! The gradient the Shibori technique created is simply amazing and the entire outfit came together so wonderfully!
can't believe how well the denim worked
that indigo dye is _stunning_

Love this costume and the dying technique. Very intrigued by the beautiful drawers and cupboards behind you in your intro.
You are so delightful. I really liked the dye method you used. It was subtle but beautiful.
She seems Aes Sedai with or without the amazing outfit. Ageless vaguely youthful look, with a confident professional aire of expertise.
It turned out great! I would have never thought it was denim. Truly amazing work in every piece and the reveal was magnifique!
It looks amazing. Denim was the perfect choice for it., you can slay dragons with denim.
