Cheers Jim, appreciate your input.. Since the post I took a test ride on a multistrada, but to be honest it didn't blow me away, maybe too similar to what I have now, and I fancy a change.. I then took out a ducati 899 panigale and I really, really liked it! Not tested any of the beemers yet..

Hi Ryan, the R is a better road bike in my opinion, you certainly don't notice the 30hp deficit as the torque is the same if not a tad better on the R. Its only when you are on track do you realize the RRs potential. Trust me the R is a quick bike, its not stable like the RR but it is more fun to throw about and it shakes its head quite a bit on the A roads. The riding modes are in my opinion better on the R as the Dynamic and dynamic pro seem to have better software to allow for a spirited ride, slick on the RR is great but I found that on the road the R was the better bike. If you are looking at buying new and can wait, the new RR is surely to have DDC and better riding modes upon its release. The cruise is great but not as smooth as a car system imo. The DDC is set for a hard ride even in soft but for me it suits the bike perfectly, it seems to split opinions on the forum but I like it. Whichever you choose you will be having fun :)

Sorry for the late reply John but I have been away on holiday. Yes I have ridden the multi and I lived it apart from the annoying centre stand position that limits where you can put your left foot! Chalk and cheese to be honest, although the multi could scratch with the best it's not a sports bike like the R. It's closer to the latest GS and would make a great tourer. The R is a sports bike with a comfier riding position. Definitely ride the multi as it's a great bike and I nearly put a deposit down on one but the R blew me away on the test rude and it was a no brainer. Hope this helps.

Hey Jim, thanks for the video. As someone who is hard pressed making the choice between the R and the RR. What are your thoughts on 30hp defecit? Is it noticeable.
Personally I prefer the styling of the RR. But the R with cruise control and DDC is a hard package to beat.
Any input you can provide would be appreciated.
    Cheers

Hi Jim. I don't suppose you have ridden the ducati multistrada have you?
I very nearly bought a used 2012 S1000RR last week, but I sat on the single R and it felt a nicer place to sit.. I currently have a KTM950 sm, superb bike bit I'm starting to miss having a bike with a crazy amount of power (my previous bike was a kawasaki zx10r, after fireblades etc). So as it stands I'm swaying towards a bmw S1000R or a multistrada (but they are so expensive, even used!) . I'm still not 100% ruling out a RR, but not sure if I'd be happy going back to such an extreme riding position.. Thanks.

Sorry for the delay John I've been working away, I really really rate the multistrada. Great engine, great riding postion, my only criticism is a slightly vague feeling from the front (could have just been tyre etc) and if you have centre stand fitted it interferes with your foot positioning. I would understand totally if you chose one thiugh.

Just wondering, 2 years on, do you still have the S1000R and how do you rate it now?
