Another enjoyable show. Fly fishing for pike brings me back to Canada again and again. It would be good to see a future segment that demonstrates how to release these fish without removing them completely from the water. It is less stressful on the fish and a useful part of catch and release practice. Thanks again for a great show.

Enjoyable video and great rates at that lodge - thinking of heading up there some time. Tip for you - before heading up again get down a good double haul cast - your fly will be in the water twice as much and catch rates will go up.

The term Big is relative to many things. The record Pike in Ontario Canada is 42.12pounds that’s a Big Pike. Germany 1986 55-pounds that is a real big pike. I was fishing with my wife in Ontario some odd 30-years ago and a Pike followed my wife’s spinnerbait back to our Peterborough boat and went under the boat. She said I don’t like those things they scare me. We were fishing for smallmouth bass and having a great time. I was trying to tell my wife she need to let her spinnerbait sink down deeper if she wanted to catch bigger fish. She gave me that look all husbands know, so I shut up. At that very moment that dam pike shot out from under the boat and ate my wife’s spinnerbait hanging just a few feet under the boat. She began screaming in fear and gave her rod over to me. That thing bottom out my 15-pound scale and it was only about 44-inches long; I guessed it weighed 18 or 19-pounds. By judging its size to a 30-pounder mounted in the lodge. I wanted to take a picture of it and my wife refused to come near the fish. I didn’t want it keep out of the water any longer so I sent her back home. I would say that fish was at least 8-inches or more wide. You boys may be fishing for big pike, but you have never land one so far so keep on fish boys.

Thanks for the feedback and great fish story. Big is a relative term and for Ontario, these are very decent fish. We've seen and caught many 44-47 inch pike but it is amazing how different they can be in girth and strength, depending upon the food available and water temperature. Look forward to reading more of your feedback in the future. Take care

@@newflyfisher I enjoy watching your fishing adventures around the country. I do the most my fly-fishing in Pennsylvania. You might enjoy fishing some of the historically popular streams around Penn State. I would highly recommend the Kettle Creek area for the early June hatches. It is common to witness numerous hatches during single day of fishing. You may find yourself sharing streams with Elk and Bears. You can fish for Native populations of Brook trout in tiny streams seldom fished. The fishing atmosphere is hard to beat. Two and three weight rods rule on tiny waters and fishing with them will put smiles on your face. Like I said Big is a relative term.

Phil Baldacchino is someone interesting to meet. He has been around a long time and has tons of fishing tails to tell. However, can be quite cantankerous if you don’t hit it off well, but is a must see place to visit. The tackle shop is well stocked and he will point you in the right direction if you shine up to him carefully. The shop is filled with history if you look closely at things. There are few places like this left and visiting it is one thing I always do on every trip.
A nice place to stay is Kettle Creek Lodge, They are fairly new to the area but are very nice people. I usually camp out near or on the steams and fish. I can move and fish any place I choose and don’t worry about having reservations. This area and many others just like it make fly fishing adventures possibilities endless. I have started out in Potter County PA and ended in up in Southern Maine Fishing for landlocked salmon. With a one day, stop in Manchester VT to rummage thru the Orvis thrift shop for fly rods.
Can you tell I have no reservations of changing plans if I want? Fishing solo makes it easy. I make up the plans as I go. I do not need to compromise with anyone and do what I want and how I want. I seldom ever fail having a great time. I learned long ago, what a vacation is supposed to be. Finding fish is seldom the issue because you’re fishing in waters full of fish.

Unfortunately, bit of a misleading title.......obviously Big Pike in the US and Big Pike here in Ireland don't mean the same thing, when we talk about big Pike here we are talking about Pike of between 25lb and 35lb.......measuring Pike holds no interest for us.

Here in sweden we used to focus on weight, but in the last years, the focus is on length.
