Beautiful old pictures
I have a wonderful book, Photographs for the Tsar, a collection of photographs by Sergei Mikhailovich Prokudin-Gorskii, who was commissioned by His Imperial Majesty, Tsar Nicholas II to travel across Russia and take photographs. Mr. Prokudin-Gorskii was a pioneer in colour photography. His commission took place between 1909 and 1915. The photographs are from glass-plate negatives that he carried with him when he went into exile after the Bolshevik travesty. He died in relative obscurity, but the glass-plate negatives were rediscovered and published in Photographcs for the Tsar. They are quite remarkable. These photographs that have been colourised above are just as remarkable because many I have seen in other books in sepia tones or black-and-white and they bring that era of Imperial Russia vibrantly alive. Thank you for posting these.

Well done. So true to life
A poignant photo of Pyotr Stolypin. Could he have reformed Russia to the point of saving the monarchy? Enjoyed the episode. Thank you.

What is the proper name for Russian shirts? You know, the ones like tunics with asymmetrical collar lines?
In Russian it's called "косоворотка".
