At 5:20 the VJ Charger becomes a VH. The white vinyl on the side means it was an E55. Loved them both though.

How many realise the airstrip was the site of the old Pakenham drag strip? This is said to be the first drag strip in Australia and possibly the first outside the US. Since the Pakenham bypass and new subdivisions the area is unrecognisable.

Riverside dragway, Lorimer street Fisherman’s Bend in around 1964 was the first official sanctioned Dragstrip in Victoria when Calder dragway started up in 1966, l don’t know where pakenham comes into it but if it ever did it would only have been the locals and it certainly was never sanctioned if it did show me the proof which l know never existed!

@@jamesgovett2501 Not sanctioned, neither was Riverside initially, but Pakenham was THE place to race from late ‘50’s until Riverside took over in ‘62. People came from all over to compete, famous names include Eddie Thomas, John English, Daryl Harvey, Tony Mullins, Bluey Wilson, Greg Goddard and more. The well known Pirrotta family were responsible for laying the concrete “launch pads” at the strip. I attended a function at the site hosted by the Thunderbirds rod and custom club in 2004 just prior to the area being obliterated by progress. Many of the old racers and their cars were there, including the famous Harvey roadster and it’s new owner. You can see the history of the track in an article in Aust street rodding review no. 187.

0:45 - Brute horsepower turns oversteer weakness into an advantage! 0:52 - As close as you can come to the gutter without hitting it. 0:54 - The XK Falcon (with the XM front) gets around the double bend as fast as the 504. 0:59 - The Falcon is flying here! On cross-plies too. Love to know what engine they had in it. 2:09 - Nothing can beat a Charger in a drive-in with the torsion bars wound up!

There are 2 young guys that want to follow in his foot steps & they get around in a Charger.
