After a month of non-fiction, I started my December reads a few days early. A number of my auto-buy authors put out short stories or novellas based on Christmas themes. They are released on 12/1, 12/25 and the last on 12/26. They feel like mini celebrations with my favorite fictional friends. I have even started adding a few Hanukkah stories that are light and airy romances. (Favorite quote: man using his iPhone says “I don’t think Siri is Jewish.”)
But there are a few heavy hitters as well. Christmas Eve 1914 is an Audible Exclusive historical fiction about WWI British and German soldiers who call an impromptu truce to bury their dead, sing carols and give thanks. This is a full cast production with singing. I expect it will be a tearful, yet joyful experience.
My entire family has been deceased since 1999. I have lovely, but small, celebrations with my friends. But these books allow me to relive the large family celebrations that I enjoyed the first few decades of my life. I cannot imagine December without books!

I enjoyed a flicker in the dark too. I loved the wife upstairs but it was one of my first thriller to read. Holiday romance is on my tbr too.

I am devastated by the idea of a historical fiction book that takes place 20 years ago (ie, while I was in college). Excited to see your reviews of some of these (especially the Kiley Reid one!)

I really enjoyed Lessons in Chemistry. I hadn't heard about the adaptation! Will definitely be checking that out. I don't worry about cramming in last-minute books or finishing goals, but I like to do 24 days of bookmas, which is my version of a bookish advent calendar where I open and read a book each day. I hope you have a wonderful month.

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on yellowface! December tends to be a decently good reading month for me because I’m a teacher and have winter break. We plan is to do a mix of holiday romances, and books that I still have left on reading challenges for the year.

I keep playing with the idea of making my reading year December-November too but keep chickening out haha

The only thing I hesitate on is my stats being different from goodreads… but as far as favorites go I highly recommend cutting it off after November!

I created a December TBR but I'm not sure if much reading will happens since its all my finals and graduation stuff happening, also applying for all the jobs and holiday season. BUT if I do read in December, I would like to finish the last two of my class required readings, finish everything marked as currently reading, and catching up on book club/buddy reads. Next year I think will be more flexible TBRs and focusing on maybe two year-long readathons and a few buddy read/book club picks.

I have been participating in a read what I own challenge and in December I am also joining a kindle readathon reading things I had on there forever. Do you see a trend? You booktubers have my tbr piling up LOL so I am reading some of the older recs as well as some old stuff on my shelf. So far I have No Exit by Taylor Adams, The Firm by John Grisham, a reread before his sequel comes out, Notes on an Execution by Danya Kukafka and a past DNF Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil by John Berendt I also will be adding books for the challenges I participate in so we shall see...your TBR looks great!
