A Short Walk around Bedford Place, Southampton

Bedford Place in Southampton contains some of Southampton’s oldest shops, including W J French and Son, the oldest and largest independent shoe shop in Hampshire whose family have been trading in Southampton since 1803. Bedford Place was developed around 1820-1840 and some of the original buildings still remain. It was named after the Dukes of Bedford, who were former owners of the land which the street was built on.

Lived on Burlington Road between 2019 and 2023, and before then all my friends would live in student house shares round here.

I know Burlington Road, I had friends who lived there! Bedford Place has changed quite a bit over the years since I first went there. The chip shop is still there so it's not all bad though! 🙂

For me, it was in fhe 80s, plus i worked nearby. They were good times and after work i woukd get a portion if chops from Ted's Chippy
