This video reminds me of when I tried to make a fps on unity with no coding and writing experience on my crappy laptop when i was 12. It was just a bunch of unity's pre made assets and code crammed together with a 3-D model of Mario and a blob bean thingy that was meant to be a gun. It's crazy to think how much I've improved since then. I also gotta say that your old pixel art still holds up. Fire vid too btw

The spot at about 5:20 when you're talking about not knowing what to show on screen if you don't have footage is so insanely real, even with the stuff i record, I still struggle to do this even though i feel like i recorded so much b-roll looool. Great video!!

That stuff about dialogue is so real. I was doing a game jam and decided to add dialogue, and SEVERELY underestimated how hard it would be.
I got like a single conversation working and then gave up and never finished the jam.

I literally had a similar idea where you are a wizard with there's a clock ticking down and taking damage would decrease that time even more. The prototype is still on my itch. It's so funny how multiple people can have the same base idea and do different implementations.

Every creator always feels embarrassed when watching old videos cos the knowledge they have now is just much greater than their first few vids but as someone watching from a 3rd person perspective it actually looks pretty good. Sure the voice does sound gloomy but that just comes from a lack of confidence/being comfortable when a camera is on. If you're consistent enough, after a few months you're notice a difference from when you first started like how you are now. The video itself was actually pretty informative and the editing without seeing your sub count would make me think you're a big youtuber in the game dev space

  • @Nicklefritz
    @Nicklefritz 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

Your game idea sounds really cool! After reading some comments, though, it seems like the game mechanic may not be all that unique, but the way in which you incorporate it is probably what matters most. What is the setting? Who are you as the player? Why is it that your life keeps getting reset after a matter of time? What is the background history of this world that revolves so deeply around time and its manipulation? Answering these questions may be what sets your game apart from other games with similar mechanics.

    • @Nicklefritz

The conecpt is incredible, but one factor that might have affect your developmente maybe was the fact that you didn't prototyped the ideia, the concetp of making the life of you MC be time itself is amazing, but you just jumped the first part of development where you see if your ideia really functions and how the elements in the gameplay work together. If you continue with this idea, in my humble opinion a prototype ,with just the basic elements of the game, would be a good first step.

1:26 once upon a time, I found a weird ass steamgame doomscrolling that basically does this. It's called: 600Seconds ~The Deep Church~. I have not played it yet (I've been tempted a few times to notetake n play), I want to torture someone with it though, but the moment I saw the anime chick with the flamethrower I couldn't help myself and it's collected dust in the steam library. It's entire concept from what I can tell is a level you have 600 seconds to play in, at which time's end you go through a stat check corridor of enemies or something. I love the concept of building small pathways through a forest trail in terms of game design of which lead to their own branches but never a different tree, but this game owns that and just says 'engulf yourself in this timed combat puzzle'. Other games do this untimed like Tactical Nexus (the action economy is your own mind), but in terms of your typical 'video game' there's not much except in vague resemblance to this idea, or it exists but in roguelike vabrado which steals away the bulk of the charm unless you already love the game enough to agonize over seeded runs, which contradicts the point of the roguelike elements.

The idea of the game is actually really cool and reminds me of the rift from hypixel skyblock (it is not the main part of the game) you get a certain amount of time to be there and when you get hit you lose time and when your time runs out you get kicked out and you can get upgrades inside to get more time and it really reminds me of the idea of your game

is there a place people can hire a coder or artist for a game because i have gotten really good at pixel art and have thought of some really cool game ideas but i dont know dookie about coding. i love the ideas i have but i just need a platform to share them or find help before trying to get a real life friend to help. i had an idea for a fighting game (i love them and play many) using elemental abilities and fusions, and i had an idea for a game that is about being more than what the character is. you collect parts to escape Earth in a war leading to extinction and bring a bunch of stuff to save for the next intelligent species that evolves on Earth. i wrote a lot more down for it but i just want to find a good place to help with pixel art and creativity.

@@DominicWeimer The Lospec discord server has a section for that, and also a part of their website!! (It's a pixel art pallet community)

The idea rocks, I think it could be turned into a pretty cool game. It might also benefit from something like the heat system in Hades which introduces new challenges after your first run completion. Just something to allow it to have a postgame yk?

It really makes me sad that the tone of your old video is considered bad on youtube because I personally find the forced tone of a lot of youtube content very anxiety inducing. I actually find myself gravitating much more to creators that have a presentation style similar to the old video, but because they are so rare, I sometimes just have to accept some level of disappointment and compromise.
I guess even further the level of advertiser friendly compromise that creators have to make in general makes me really sad, and I think it makes for a worse environment with worse content overall, though I don’t begrudge any creators for doing so and understand why they feel so pressured toward that direction.
I feel like if I ran across the video you’re reacting to here on its own, it would be an instant subscribe and a genuinely uplifting part of my day. That said I still enjoy what you’re making now, and thank you for all the hard work that goes into it, but I guess I just wanted to give a different perspective that you night not be getting from the other side of things.

Is pretty easy to drift off when you talk in only one tone

Huh interesting, I appreciate you sharing that! I never thought about that. That certainly helps me feel less weird about some videos even now where I feel I'm less "energetic". It's become natural from streaming to be more engaging but it's nice to just relax too 😊

@@JuniperDev Oh yes, that makes sense. I can definitely understand the influence of the streaming space on things. I’ve been thinking about/working toward streaming myself for a little while, and though I can’t speak to the actual experience yet, the culture and performance norms have been very interesting and sometimes even somewhat uncomfortable to me coming from the perspective of a previously mostly scripted/pre-recorded style viewer. Figuring out what is just culture shock, vs differing tastes and styles, vs structural and environmental influence, vs genuinely held differences of beliefs or values can be a difficult and precarious process sometimes.
Thanks for sharing your experience and taking the time to respond! I’m glad you got something from what I wrote and hope your journey moving forward goes well!
