I think a season 5 is very possible with at least 2 new characters and overall network and system UI overhaul. Not regarding game balance. It’s already the biggest GG roster and the season passes are proven to be successful so they should capitalize on that. Strive has plenty of longevity as well and I think they know that.

There was an interview when Bedman? came out where they said they wanted 6-7 years of support for Strive, so a Season 5 is possible but also ArcSys has a lot of other new games that are probably taking resources away from Strive but obviously we don’t know yet

At the very least a rewind option would be nice. And frame data without having to use a mod
Rewind is kinda hard to do because the way replays are saved is by recording the buttons pressed rather then a video of the match. That does mean that they should allow more then 100 replays tho. Right now it takes like less then like 5mb.

@@semlcolon games with similar systems let you rewind, but doing so starts the replay over from the beginning and fast-forwards so it can resim the game state up to that point (which wouldnt be a big deal in Strive since the rounds are so short) and pauses when it gets there

Kum Haehyun would be insane to see return. On that topic, imagine if Raven returned. The dialogue between him and Happy Chaos would be very fun to explore.

All hail Dustloop, but Combomaker really is one of the best tools. I don't make combos, but I gladly use them. Coming back from a longer pause or after a balance patch hits and the only thing I have to do is search combos for my character for the current patch. No alt-tabbing (not every has a second screen, no looking up), looking up combos and having to guess if they still work. Load combo, try combo, decide if you want to keep it.
Every new player can just scout the menu and look up combos for their character with the tags or - no need to introduce a subreddit, forum, webpage or discord. You just need the game. The next step would be "Torte de Lini Dota2 guides" for Guilty Gear. :D
Things I want to see in season 4: an online system that doesn't make you hate your life, and will actually let you play against people around your skill level. The celestial system is completely broken when I have 95% winrate in floor 10 and yet I still have to spend 10+ hours getting into celestial if I DON'T cheat. Just so I can get booted right out next month. The experience is miserable unless you're playing over 10 hours per week or are top 100 ranked player so you can actually get in quickly. If you don't want to play 10+ hours a week, more than half of your entire monthly playtime will be spent grinding faceroll matches where you can't learn a single thing or enjoy yourself.

yeah at this point I will let anyone who asks into Celestial, though you don't have to be top 100 to get in, more like somewhere in the top 1500 but still
it blows my mind that the game expects you to have an 83% win rate at the highest level

@@ThePoodle It's not about GETTING in. It's how long it takes there. Because you have to roll your luck to get matches against people at or slightly above your skill level. Instead of a "floor 20" equivalent opponent. And then you can't even get in with a 50% or 51% win rate. Every other game with a ranking system, 50.0001% win rate is enough to improve your rank. If you had to spend the 10+ hours ONCE it would be fine, but having to do it every month turns it into a job and tuns away players who only want to play a few hours a week.

I'd really want the lobby system to work better. Also in game frame data/hitboxes/replay takeover. And an actual ranked mode
I love the combo maker system as a beginner but it could use some quality of live changes. Like it would be nice if you could search and download combos in the training mode queue/lobby floors and not just in the specific mode. It would also be nice if you could slow down the demos or even the game speed to better understand how to do certain combos. Frame date options would be nice as well. This isn’t necessary but a way to tag combos you’ve downloaded with either symbols or colors would be nice so it makes it easier to find what you’re looking for.
i would like a feature to let me skip the fishing animation/ let me just pay 10 rolls worth per item without having to go through that animation 100 times

I personally want cinematic finishers added. I really liked the cinematics for Insta Kills but i dont know if i want insta kills added. I would be perfectly fine with something like SSBAs like in Granblue. I just think the extra flair it adds to the game is really cool.
Insta-kills would be THE best update added to the game. Considering they added more additions to how the burst gauge can be used, bringing back Insta-kills and how the meter can be exploited would be huge considering this is the first guilty gear game without them.
personally i think the dmg in strive is way to high for insta kills. but thats just me ofc

What I like the most about these games is they end with like a half million characters.
As someone who has spent *way too long* in combo maker, while I appreciate the system it does feel like it's missing a lot of useful features.
I know it's not that simple, but I would love to see a system that checks the content of a combo to make sure it isn't already in the archive. The longer you're in combo maker, the more you'll see the same combos over and over and over again with no variation. Basic close slash gatling into special ender. Far Slash -> Special Cancel. Far Heavy -> Special cancel. It's difficult to find new and interesting ideas because you keep getting served the same combo over and over and over again.
I would love if they gave dlc 1 characters new moves like they did for the base cast.
Might not happen but it would be dope if it did.

Do you guys see Strive putting out another full season after this? The game definitely has longevity but I think it’s now coming to the cost between content or quality (matchmaking, lobby’s, netcode). I want the game to have a huge roster but stabilizing the functions seems imo, more necessary.
I think Strive has two more seasons worth of content too.
One more season imo. And maybe two... if the last one is planned to have a guest char. Yeah, the trendy stuff. That might be necessary for GGST to last for that long, which is a completely new aspiration for this franchise that was always very niche. But the main factor here imo is the amount of attention on SF6. The current moment in the scene is very different from the late 2010s and very early 2020s, when Arcsys games (and others) took advantage of the troubles of Capcom's fgs in the ps4 gen and the SF5 burnout effect.
The guest might not be exactly wacky like most fgs like to do. Could be from another anime fg. Maybe BB is possible?
@@carlosaugusto9821 Someone also mentioned how they might give Strive another title name to resell the game similar to rev 2. I thought it was impractical at first but seeing GBVS going this route and having major success it may be in the best interest to release one more season and then shift to other projects as a buffer. While creating a larger refined version of the game that keeps in separated from the original strive.
But agreed! They handled this luck really well and now need to stabilize. 1-2 seasons more seems practical, but since the game has garnered an audience the major competitive factor is netplay and functionality imo.
The two things I’ve wanted most from Strive are a REAL ranked mode, and character specific ranks. That way, whenever I’m trying to learn a new character, I won’t be forced to play against a lvl 3000 Sin when I’m a lvl 5

I wonder if the 3v3 mode will be like KOF but each character is controlled by a different player. The fighting game genre is one of the few multiplayer genres where you cant queue up with the boys
I think if I remembered correctly 🤔 Guilty Gear Isuka had a 2v2 mode where both players can fight simultaneously in the match.
It’s even a thing in Strive Arcade against Nago, thought it’s AI.

Although it's unlikely that the combo maker tools are updated in strive, I do wish games in the future innovate on them.
It's currently really hard to find better and more optimal combos because of the search engine, and it would be really cool if the feature was developed further because, as you said, almost every player of every skill level can participate in that activity

Well...
the beat 7 fighters and get a superboss arcade mode is a product of it's time. Bounty mode, where the difficulty ramps up and you can land on a bounty hunter fight (super boss) every once and a while. It could be like a single player ELO, use the same ranking system as online, but with bots.
Tekken 7 did something similar with treasure battles and I personally loved using it to learn new characters before trying them online.
Venom (with new stage), Dizzy, Jam (with new stage) and Ariels with a new story mode. My guess is that Dizzy will be released first. These would be all the surviving fighters from Guilty Gear X and a new fighter.
Season 5 is the last I could see be viable. Haehyun, Robo Ky, Raven and Daryl.
Season 6 would just be redundant with I guess Gabriel, Vernon and two guest fighters so I guess Ragna and Kenshi, maybe Mitsurugi. I can't see this happening unless ASW REALLY want to put guest fighters in the game.
Zappa's arc is over and he's also too hard to balance. Order Sol is basically just Sol but balanced differently. Answer is way too minor of a character to the story.
Give me Zappa, and put Faust’s soul in him
Not sure what i'd be interested in really. I find a few of the characters interesting, but whenever i try to sit down to try and learn a character, i just can't find the motivation.
I hope add another new mechanic or new moves the DLC characters, as for characters he decide add 5 for Season 4:

- Brand new character
Something keeping me from playing this game is the lobby. I would circumvent it by going into training room but more times then not itd bug out. I enjoy ranked so reworking it to be a better mode would get me back. Also making Millia's new skill fun as fuck would also do the trick or adding Gabriel, Dizzy, or A.B.A. too

As someone playing in South Africa, a rank mode and death to the tower would spell death to online Strive for us. Like all other fighters with a good ranked mode.

@@aspekt7631 yeah man same, but as I'm saying, the tower at least allows you to find games. Try any other fighting game and you can't find a game. With Strive and the rollback I thought it could only improve and we'll get to play a diverse range of people to play against. Rollback has improved, but connection strengths are so tight, it might have not had rollback to begin with.

One thing i've been thinking every fighting game should have is some type of adventure mode where you play your character through some kind of sidescrolling metroidvania-esque type gameplay. This would serve to give newcomers a place to play the game in a non-threatening environment and give them some time to get familiar with their character and game mechanics through specifically designed challenges. It could serve as a tutorial and mission mode of sorts, but wrapped up in a solo gameplay experience.
What I want for season 4:
Most importantly - Rewinding replays or In framedata. Rewinding may just be impossible the way replays are done.....so I'll go with the latter.
Characters: I would love anybody, since I already gotten Bridget and Testament. But I would LOVE -
Zappa
ABA
Venom & Robo-Ky together
Slayer
Kum
As much as my primary love with fighting games is focused on getting better at the head-to-head serious stuff, I also like to unwind with either single-player or "silly" modes. Anything added to Strive along that axis would be much appreciated by me.
In terms of characters, I have started thinking about them not in terms of who would be coolest, but who would be the funniest to hear complained about on Twitter. Twitter whining about the funny pool stick man or the funny key lady are both entertaining.
I believe the devs must be seriously considering these ideas at the moment, but for the sequel. Otherwise the sequel will lose some heat for those "single player innovations".
SF6 made some contributions to the genre that will pressure new games from now on to improve their content package. And it happens that GGST took advantage from the SF5 burnout in the early 2020s and the "netcode revolution"... and those kind of situational factors wont help sequels, which makes me think the GG devs are going to work on expanding its package in hopes to keep the franchise in the same place or close to the place achieved by GGST.
SNK and their games are also in the same situation btw. They never really cared about these modes and stuck to the basics of fg making for most of the time, like Arcsys. They arent familiar with the whole idea of pleasing their public with fun extra modes. Like, SF5 might have been a lacking title but the franchise has a history with minigames for example... and SFA3 for consoles had World Tour, and SF3 had Parry the Ball, etc... that's the difference. So SNK and Arcsys will have to break from their comfort zone and figure out "different" stuff to offer next time. For their own good.
We need guilty gear 2k/ basketball with a loop of “i got a smell in my game” and each character to be tuned to play basketball differently potemking can heavenly optemkin dunk the ball for extra points. Maybe you can get special skins leBron ky, sol with the entire net and backboard as the junkyard dog and also a basket ball in his off hand, baller bridget

Id like to see something like Holy Order Leo and Robo May, where it's cool callbacks but not the exact same characters. It'd probably help set expectations on movesets for diehard fans also
Games have been doing the whole "the top rank becomes an Elo ladder" thing for a while before SF6. I'm not sure what was the first but I know at least Hearthstone was doing it back in 2014 or 15. As far as fighting games, I know Rivals of Aether has done it that way for at least 5+ years.

in general, i think single player content should be prioritized at launch and becomes increasingly less important the older the game is as there the there's fewer and fewer new players. something like raids in DBFZ could work though, as it appeals to both groups quite well.

Nowadays? They sort of last as long as the servers are functional, and especially ArcSys have really doubled down on supporting their older games: IE DBFZ getting THREE post development updates. I wouldn’t worry too much about how long this game will “last”, lucky for us!

Competitively, games tend to last 8-ish years based on the precedent set by Street Fighter 4/5 and Tekken 7, though Tekken is a weird case because the game was out in arcades for significantly longer.
Ultimately though I'm not sure what the plans are for GG:S because ASW doesn't usually follow the norm and GG:S is also sorta the first ASW game to reach this level of popularity with this level of competition.
I don't have my eyes on GG:S too much but it seems like it's got at least 1-2 years planned for the time being, and it'll probably be supported and played for way longer.
If it stops being supported, that'll likely be due to a new game, whether it's a new GG, BlazBlue or another new IP.
Depends massively on how popular they are. With games as popular as Strive, SF6 and Tekken 8, you can usually expect at least 4 years of content and updates. a 4th season for strive is all but a given at this point, a 5th tho? Hella unclear. Now, if your question is "How long will people play them?" Forever. Almost every single fighting game has a devoted community even if the game doesn't get any new updates.
@@TheSteret It's more accurate to say that nothing lasts for too long besides SF and TK, and not generalize like "games tend to last 8-ish years..." If we really look into the matter and count the other franchises one by one, the truth is that everything else doesnt get close to SF and TK.
The part about SF and TK setting a precedent to others doesnt work, it didnt happen. MK could always afford to go as long and the two, but that doest happen. And KOF isnt in a great shape, but the games could have gone a bit longer because their lower standards make new content production easier. And DBFZ could have gone a bit longer because of the commercial success, the franchise's name helping it and the constant interest on new chars from the latest updates in the anime/manga.

If 3v3 is similiar to KoF's, I'll never ask for a char again. It's ain't constructed for tag mechanics, but being able to have you own team will bring everyone back to Strive. I know, I know, can't overwork our wonderful developers.
Would be funny if the new character was a guest character. But they also had nothing to do with an ArcSys series or any of the obvious anime picks like Jojo's or whatever guy from that JJK the kids would say . Like it's just Vash or Sailor Moon for some reason. Mostly I just want something funny to be announced after Elphelt was kind of stressful with the leaks and everything.
Feature wise, frame data and an easier invite system to private lobbies is all I could really want for whenever I do boot the game back up.

The only way I see Robert Kyle returning is through Venom's moveset. Considering Arcsys stays very true to their lore Robert is just a head and currently helping Venom at the bakery. Plus seeing Robert's head just fly around assisting venom would be an absolutely sick addition to Venom's moveset.
Only if we get Venom at the same time. You can't leave one of them to tend the bakery alone.
I don’t think they’d be against getting Robo Ky a new body, they brought Zato back from the dead and I’m pretty sure they said they be willing to bring Kliff back if fans wanted him in a dev backyard, might be misremembering.
@@Okami_HD Not sure about the Kliff comment but I did forget that they brought zato back to life out of nowhere just cause. Especially with Asuka making R# clones, I could see him meeting up with robo ky and just making him a new body just for the hell of it.

I believe the GG devs must be figuring out some cool brand new fun modes to add to the franchise in the sequel, based on the SF6 effect on the genre. All upcoming games without a considerably bigger single player package than their previous versions might start looking a cheap product to the general public.
