As always, awesome video James! The time lapse is lush! Thanks for the shout out ☺️🤣 I'm glad you wasn't recording when I shouted down to you 😋🤣 people would think that you'd come across a crazy Welsh girl in the valleys 🤣
@@joinmeoutdoors I could tell where I saw you in the video, you're right it was seconds!!! 😱😂 We did 19 miles, we were making our way back to the car with our head torches on lol but like you say in the video, need to keep pushing the limits, so easy let the fitness slide, especially in winter with the dark mornings and longer evenings. Really enjoyed this video, not just because we got a mention, James no2's dancing in the background made me chuckle 🤣
@@kim_outdoors 19 miles! That's a bloody good day out, fair play to you for that. I bet you slept well!! Haha James number 2 has to keep warm as well you know! 🤣
Thanks Mark. These colder temps do require a fair bit more gear. 20 kg pack vs about 8-9 kg for some of my summer camps (including camera gear etc). Big weight penalty! Cheers for watching buddy. James.
Hard to know what to say here mate !! That was absolutely the best vid you've done. Me n dangerous Dan outdoors have just been glued!!! In fact mate I'd go as far as yo say its the best outdoors vid iv seen in a long while a d there is some awesome content out there !!!. The views, the night sky, the chat everything was pure quality !!! Nice work there mate top man. ATB Simon
I wasn't expecting a response like this! Thank you very much - I don't know what to say either!! Glad I could share these scenes with you, as I don't suppose you venture down to Wales much at all. You'd love it though, I'm sure 👍 Chuffed that you enjoyed it that much, and it's kind of you to put it in writing. Take it easy up there ✌️ James.
Great to see you acquainted with our local range James. It was certainly the right time to venture this way - the conditions were perfect. Yeah, great views on top - it's an overlooked space in the UK. Well, getting fitter - 'use it or lose it' as they say. All the best with that. As for the camp - far out frosted in almost instantly. Winter is so magical. That was good. I imagine you got back down buzzing. Mark
As a first experience of a new area, I couldn't have asked for better really, could I? You're lucky to have that close by! I did feel satisfied when I got back to my car, although the battery in my car key fob felt the opposite. The cold killed the battery so I had a small challenge to get into it and get home 😂 Thanks for your comment 👍 James.
@@joinmeoutdoors No you couldn't - it was glorious. Yeah, I've always felt fortune with this space so close to home. We'll see you back here for sure. Ah, you just don't think about those things. Back home alright though. Have a cool week ahead.
Really enjoyed that James, beautiful day for it as well - you got to love a snow camp 😁 amazing views of the Welsh countryside fantastic drone footage, and the Night lapse well that was awesome 👏 please DM us your settings so we can try it ha ha , thanks for sharing ATB Mark & Simon 👌👍
Cheers boys! I love camping in Wales, it has to be said. Not sure the drone enjoys it quite so much on these colder trips 😂 I've done lots of experimenting with the night lapses and the settings really come down to the conditions (like any photography really), so there isn't really one magic setting. It depends what work you're willing to do during the editing process too. Probably not the answer you were hoping for, sorry! James.
Absolutely awesome video this mate! Drone footage is cracking! Proper big hike!! Also the flextail pump.. I honestly thing it’s the best thing ever! I bought one a while back! The first version it’s so handy! There’s nothing worse than having to blow up stuff when your nackered!! Atb mate! 🤙
Ah thanks a lot Mark! 🙏🏻 Yeah who would have thought a little pump could make us so happy?? When they added the lantern function it blew my mind! 😂 Cheers for watching 👍 James.
Beautiful conditions in a very peaceful place. Can't get much better for the first camp of 2023. Great nightlapse and drone work, adds an extra dimension and helps add some context to the pitch.
Thanks Kev. I couldn't have asked for better conditions really. The drone was good for getting my heart going in the morning when it tried to terminate its career!
@@joinmeoutdoors 😲 lucky there was two of you to look after it. I do enjoy the other James making an appearance. At least you weren't horrible to him this time!
Cheers Gordon. Each of these camps ends all too quickly. I could have say up there for many more hours taking in those views! Thanks for your comment 👍 James.
Can relate to the fitness slipping away James. I, like you mixed things up with the road cycling etc but lost my mojo ref riding so took to the hills and hiking! The camp looked very cold, it's when the right equipment comes to the fore 😊 Stay safe and well mate, Adge.
Well good on you for finding something else that got you out there and using your lungs. Taking too much time out from exercise can leave a real (fitness) mountain to climb! Yep, I'm really pleased with my kit, though there are bits here and there I could add to improve the colder weather stuff (e.g. microspikes and warmer thermals). Thanks for watching again 😊 James.
Nice vid jam, liked the location for the camp I havnt been that far up yet , I camped near the reservoir in the summer and it was nearly empty ,glad to see it back full again atb nick 👍
Thanks Nick. There seem to be a million good options for camping in that area, don't there? The reservoir is definitely one of those good options. It was certainly a long way off being empty, and with a healthy sheet of ice by the dam wall 👍 Cheers, James.
Looked a great trip I did my 1st camp of the year on Saturday it was pretty hard with the 30+mph wind and -5 temp the wind chill is what makes it so hard.as for fitness it's a constant battle especially now I'm older but it's amazing how quickly you lose it I tend to give myself more time now rather than racing round routes but there always shorter trips in winter just because of the extra weight.
Absolutely that - the cold temps are fine when it's still, but even the gentlest of breezes can chill your bones once it's a few degrees below zero. 30 mph must have felt like an ice blast! The main thing is that you're still getting out there, rather than just giving up because it's a bit harder these days. Keep on camping 💪 James.
Good to see you back James. Excellent content. I’m not a electrical pump man. It sounds like the wife’s hair drier😱I don’t like any man made noises. I don’t even listen to music. James number two is still a bit of a poser. 🤣keep them coming. You life path, cycling etc echoes mine.
Thanks Pete, it's good to be back! I know exactly what you mean about the man-made noises. I found the Thermarest pump sack to be a real nuisance and source of frustration from the get-go, after my excellent Exped pump sack, so I was keen to solve that issue. Just under 2 minutes of electric motor noise is the trade-off, but I make peace with that as it means I can keep unpacking stuff while my mat inflates. They're not for everyone 🙂 Haha James number two has his uses, occasionally! I am clearly on the path to greatness if my current trajectory echoes yours 😎 James.
Possibly, but more likely to be sheep I think, as there were a fair few sheep milling around up there. It's funny in the morning seeing what animals have been up to and around the tent in the night!
Thanks Pete! It sounds obvious, but the main thing is to make sure you can keep warm. Things like warm gloves, plus warm socks for the night, can make all the difference. Filling a bottle with hot water and using it as a hot water bottle is also really useful! ATB, James.
