This blanket is just precious♡ Thank you so much for sharing your talent. I think I can remember seeing blankets like these in the states when I was younger. I crochet but it sure seems like I could get a nice size afghan much quicker and it still looks beautiful and high quality. hopefully I'll have the guts to make a nail loom like this and make one some day. Hi Alison thank you for your great tutorial, I made the loom but used Dowling instead of nails and turned out great, I would like to add a little tip on how to save your fingers from getting sore, I used rubber thimble with the ends cut off and pulled them down my fingers, they work really well and really save your fingers. I hope this helps. Rita from Kilwinning.
Brilliant idea, thank you. I wear woollen gloves with the very top of the fingers cut off. so the tip of my fingers pokes through.

You should try making them they are easier than you think and I have a tutorial on making the frames yourself just wood nails and corner brackets. They are beautiful. There are many ladies in my craft group who sell beautiful ones too. The group is called Craftytwunts on facebook. Many will do a good deal Tell them I sent you for a good deal ha ha ha

Hi Alison, i am going to try to try this, it's beautiful. When you say a round do you count a full round when you have gone around the board twice, sorry if i seem a bit silly just don't want to mess it up, Thanks you.
One round is when you start at a corner nail and work around the loom back to the corner you began at. Each nail should be wound with wool. Make sure you frame has odd and even nails two longest sides with even and shortest sides with an odd number of nails. This is the only way it will work for you to get right around the loom and back to the beginning. Also, this will help to keep non pom pom blanket patterns even.

This is fabulous Alison. I would love to make it but I don't know how to tie diagonally. can you tell me which of your videos shows how to tie diagonally. I think I've watched every one of your videos but don't know which one shows diagonal tieing
tie each diagonal separately start at the smallest diagonal remember to tie each end twice for security work your way along the diagonal to the end tie it securely cut your tying strands and move to the next one.

Both you and your tutorials are amazing. I have completed my first ever blanket today using a mixture of your tutorials. It is beautiful thank you. I was just watching this tutorial and I am hoping to make this design next. I was just wondering if theses nails are longer than 11/2 inches? the nails I used are 4 inches knocked in 1 inch the wooden peg ones are same. My sister had small nails in hers she made her own loom she just pulled out the short nails and gently knocked in longer ones. ( careful you don't split the wood so its up to you if you change the nails or make a new loom with longer nails is a good option)

If you make one you can make it any size you want. There is one on youtube where the ladies are using a door yup a door It was amazing to watch the tie it all. It must have taken them days.

I hang mine over the edge of a table put some boks on the blanket to hold it in place then trim the edge along the table edge. MIND MY TABLE IS OLD so I dont mind if it gets scraped a bit. Has anyone else got a tip on how to keep all the fringe even???

Yes, you would need a big loom. I have tried to join smaller ones but they look messy around the fringes and you cant cut the fring off or the blanket falls apart when washed.

Darla, Its cheap to make a larger frme, they dont look nice sewn or tied together too much fringe make it look messy.

This in the USA will be worsted weight 4. It is double knitting in the UK you can make it with what is known in the USA as basic yarn.

No just go over the color you did in my case the pink. Don't do the empty nails. XX

You tie it diagonally up the lines in an X try this one th-cam.com/video/1-DI9V-YfvQ/w-d-xo.html The tying principle is the same. Tie each diagonal line at a time tie secure at one end work along tying in an X where the top color overlaps the base color tie secure at the end cut the wool/yarn and begin again on the next diagonal.

Any tips on making a stand for the loom? I had spinal surgery and it's killing me. i use my ironing board so I cam stamd but it means I can't work on it for long x
google loom stands. you will see some pictures personally I would just do an inverted T shape that should be enough or Rose Hill sells stands too

hi Alison do you tie each colour separate so pink on pink and white on white?
Sorry for not responding quickly, yes you can do that but if you have lets say a white base I would tie the pink stripe from the top so the tying line blends in. If you tie the pink from the back you will have pink lines on your white base and it will not look nice. but you can just tie it all in your base colour from the back so you will have white crosses on the front if you understand what I mean.

Weave it through the edge, I start at the middle of the bottom and weave all around back to the bottom and tie a nice bow.

Yes they are usually all tied the same in an X just try to remember to tie all around the edges twice so do the same X twice to avoid the strands pulling out.

what are you supposed to do with a blanket that small?
Mine are demonstration sizes larger ones are made to decorate the tops of baby prams/strollers. The ones without the pom poms can be used as blankets, comforters and made much bigger to fit a bed.
How about for a dolls pram for children to o,at with!

These are demonstration size you can buy or make bigger looms. To make larger blankets. These are made to decorate the topmost covering of a baby parm/stroller. The one you get with the pram.
