There are several famous shopping streets in Japan, notably in Kyoto and Okayama. The Osu Kannon district, centered around the temple is unique in a couple of ways. Even though there are the same fresh items, there are used items. It has a kind of “Book Off” feel to it. More a flea market than the others. Also, the proximity of the Temple makes it a wonderful outing for the kids!
