The "Pitch Meeting" on each of these three movies are absolutely hilarious.

As for the premise - I thought first film explored the theme of "caste" or classes (though it was more about vertical slices), freedom of own life choices vs parents socializing you to particular lifestyle. Basically, social mobility. It all started to break with that brainwashing, I mean it could be seen as a metaphor for propaganda, social engineering or polarization, but it was a surprising change of topic.
The second part I vaguely remember, but I guess there was something about system wanting to suppress the unique people or sth. But still, the main character was the 'weak one' opposing strong system.
The third part... there was like nothing. Instead of main character being the weaker side, she got super tech, comes back to the city and that's it

Yeah for me I kinda saw it as the movie trying to be like no one trait is better than another, we need all traits, and showing this through the idea that "divergents" or "free thinkers" are dangerous but this premise is super surface level and has nothing to do with the rest of the series

Yeah, they were bad, but that was the trend and still is.

The trend was all these ya dystopia films being made but the divergent movies were so bad and performed so badly that they stopped making ya dystopia movies altogether. The trend of dystopian wasn't bad in and of itself, it's just a genre that got popular

@@TrashTalkReverse trend wasn't bad, but even if all the movies were good, there just was too much of it and people would get full of them sooner or later

@@qj0nyeah, I say this in my full episode on dystopia (and I think I mentioned it in my hunger games video) where HG, Divergent, and Maze Runner each dropped a film per year in 2014 and 2015 which is exhausting. Like I said above, the trend itself wasn't bad but bad movies in the genre and the sheer volume led to its downfall

The best part of Insurgent was the fans trying to figure it out the name of the last book.
NOTHING will ever beat Detergent, because it can clean up everything but bad writing.
    Edit:
The fkg maddening thing about this book for me was finding out that the writer was a Flyleaf fan and the chasm was inspired by Chasm, which makes no sense.
