Alex Smith doesn't get enough credit for turning his career around after being a disappointment as a high draft pick, then getting benched because of injury for Kaepernick, and then becoming one of the most accurate passers in the league.
Chiefs fan here and I wish Alex nothing but peace and contentment on his decision. 100% class act and I will always remember his time in KC very fondly.
I really hope if he comes back it's to kansas city. We owe him everything for mahomes and want him to get a ring. But if he doesn't we in Kansas city are eternally grateful to that man and wish him the very best. Also they need to rename the comeback player award in his honor. Not many could ever do that
He is a solid person, was a pretty good, occasionally great, QB, but just wasn't a gifted long ball thrower, and as such, couldn't win the big one. I wish him all the best and it is interesting that he seems comfortable with the move forward. Not a HOF career, but an excellent career. Edit: Calling "the comeback player of the year award" the "Alex Smith" award would be a great idea.
When he got legit weapons on the outside he was able to sling it, even completely dominated all deep ball statistics in the league in 2017. There is no coincidence that he started to sling it when Maclin, then Hill came to town (and he went to the Pro Bowl those years). The 49ers and Chiefs spent the majority of his tenure building defense up until around the time they were ready to offload him for the younger QB. I think he always managed to make things work in a way that translated to W's given the offense around him, Tom Brady seems to do the same (he is not a "gifted" deep passer unless Randy Moss or Antonio Brown is on his roster).
When you think about everything Alex has been through ... it's been a tough go. I believe someone in the NFL should be putting Alex Smith on their roster, but I understand the risk involved. Whatever his future is -- quarterback coaching makes a LOT of sense -- the man is absolute class. He's a man of faith, too, and there's no way to gauge how that has played and will play into his life. God bless him and his family. All the best. And kudos to Dan on a great interview.
Shoutout to Alex been following him Since day one, the 7 different OC in the beginning the dumb Nolan and Singletary era, the backstabbing by Harbaugh, if Kyle Williams bum ass aint fumble twice in 2011 Nfc Championship game 49ers would of made it to Superbowl and Alex would of won a Superbowl. He made KC relevant when he got traded there, cause they won 3 games the year before, tutored Mahomes for a year and even made The Redskins relevant until he had that horrific injury. He will be a coach some day or maybe analyst. Great career
I Wish Alex the best in his future endeavors. Great interview Dp.
Alex definitely deserves come-back of all time award, let's hope no one else comes close to what he had to endure.
He had to overcome a LOT of challenges!

Class act, so proud that he is moving on and enjoying skiing/snowboarding with his family. Way more important that playing football. Well done Alex!
Great Interview - DAN is THE GOLD STANDARD for interviewing. Alex Smith is an inspiration. Thanks for creating terrific content @Dan Patrick Show
NO ONE DOES IT BETTER THAN DAN Great Interview

I think if he decides to move to coaching, he will be incredible. Look at how he helped Kaepernick and Mahomes.
Lol. Coaching is overrated. Actually it's a myth
I think he wants nothing to do with coaching or analyst. He lives in Hawaii and wants to live his life

prediction - Andy Reid hires him as an assistant.
I could see him getting a shot with Coach Meyer in Jacksonville, either as a player or a coach.
I was wishing Alex came back to backup Mahomes

What is that hanging on the wall behind him? Something to block a mirror?
He's a gamer...
#ChiefForLife #ringofhonor
Take up golf, you can afford it.
I love Alex but he's fooling himself.... He's in Football Withdrawal right now...
I bet if a team calls he'd come back.
