I have said this same thing a thousand times. I'm a network engineer I tell people every bait is a tool you wouldn't use a hammer to fix your computer. It would take it apart but never put it back together. It's about you and knowing when, where, and how that bait works best. Conditions and presentation. This is awesome.

Sometimes I wish I could take a hammer to my computer though 🤣

Gary certainly has a lifetime of fishing experience, and credits also being able to learn from bass fishing legends like Dee Thomas. He's a wonderful teacher.

Since Clear Lake is my favorite fishing hole, I held onto the original VHS cassette recording from Bassmaster/ESPN around 1984 of Gary Kline fishing with Ray Scott at Clear Lake, Ca. in the dead of winter. It took them time to find the fish stacked up in ten feet of water in Corinthian Bay but when they did, they got a bunch of fat ones by gliding tube baits in front of their noses to induce a strike. The mans a fishing genus and is still competitive today..

A few baits catch fish. Many baits catch fisherman.

Not familiar with Mr. Klein, but I love him as a teacher. Been fishing for 30 years and this is the kind of info I need to hear. Like an advanced angler course. I also fish almost everyday, even after work. I guess that's the advantage of having no kids and being single lol. The only time I got away from my love or passion for fishing was in college. The last 4 years I've been almost everyday, whether that be a neighborhood pond or the gulf coast (got into saltwater this summer and oh boy I'm addicted because it's such a new challenge after mainly freshwater fishing forever). Even after all that, I still learn something new everyday. I will never have enough time to know everything because I learn something new everyday from just watching things like this. If you've fished as long as I have then you understand what I mean...it all comes down to learning the small details of things and it could take a lifetime. We all need reminders like Mr. Klein just gave me. Especially if you're newer to the sport. I'm new to saltwater and I've became so involved in my tackle at times when I get out there that i do more of that then actual fishing. Bottom line is keep your line wet and don't waste too much time fidgeting with other stuff, at least while you're on the water. I wish I knew how to get a job in this field so I could learn more.
Sorry for the novel, I love fishing

Thanks for taking the time to share your experiences. It is exactly what Gary is talking about. In a couple of his full classes, he recognizes and appreciates how fortunate he is to be able to do this professionally. He also shares that it was a big risk and there were lots of bumps along the way. You mention being currently single and without kids, I think most pros would agree that is a much easier period in your life to consider having a career in fishing.

@@thebassuniversity yes I've heard stories from other pros about how tough it is and it truly is a giant risk to try to be a pro, then be a successful one. Especially if you have an ole lady and kiddos I can imagine. I watch a lot of from Jacob wheeler and his buds lately, I will definitely be checking all of yalls stuff out and listening to more things Gary has to say. Appreciate your thoughtful reply!
