I am assuming you are a Professor and one of the best ones. Because no teacher has been able to explain Math problems the way you do. God Bless you. Thank you for what you do Mr. J
I have been reading how to do this and it just did not make sense but after watching this I now understand it. Thank you so much for making this so easy to understand.
My teen came to me once for help in Math and I spent 40 minutes teaching him how to solve the problem just to turn around and realize I taught him all WRONG!! 🫣 Now I always go straight to your channel to help refresh my memory! Thanks Mr.J - A single Mom

So basically the distributive property says multiplying by a sum (or difference) is the same as multiplying by each value in the sum (or difference) and combining the products
Also the distributive property can also be used when there are more than two terms inside a set of parentheses. Distribute the factor outside the parentheses to each value inside the parentheses.
Interesting question. Have you figured it out yet? I'm thinking that it's because with the distributive property, all you're doing is simplifying the expression to it's simplest form. But im not sure.
Im 5 months late but here I come. The reason you can multiply 2m 8 times is because 2m is a solid value. So multiplication is always going to be the same, like 2m+2m 4 times. However, when we do addition we wouldn't get the same result. We don't know the value of M meaning that if we added 6 to 2m we cannot figure out the answer. Saying the answer would be 8m would be assuming M is equal to 1 and for all we know M could be equal to 3,000. When we multiply we just repeat the number and the value stays solid so it doesn't change.
Slop sloppy Mr J a(b+c) is NOT = ab+ac IT IS a(b+c) = (ab+ac) This is important !!! Don't drop parenthesis till solved. If you combine operations you get the wrong answer. This is exactly why so many people do poorly in math. You need to redo your video's with more precision.

Why can you multiply 8*2m but not add 2m+6? If 8 and 2m are not like terms.
