“We often see the best team not actually win it all” - He says as the best team has a 2-0 lead in the World Series. This video took longer than I wanted to get out, but unfortunately I got sick, lost my voice (which I hope towards the end isn’t too noticeable), and had to install new parts in my computer as it could not even run my editing software anymore. Regardless, I hope everyone enjoys! And thanks for 5K subs by the way, it means a ton!
often doesn't mean always. last year we had two wild cards face off in the dance. A 5 seed, and a 6 seed. he said "often the best team doesn't" not that they never do win it
Awesome video! So happy that i found your channel, love the editing and the way you explain. You deserve to be known by every baseball fan! Keep up the great work :)

TOM SEAVER REFERENCE YEAH!!! I might be in the minority but I think the format from 1969-1981 was superior. Allowed for some sweepstakes but more than provided for "traditional" outcomes. Regular seasons would certainly remain enticing as well. I'm a motorsport fan so I've seen extended playoffs destroy championship legitimacy, and it gets to a point, even in MLB, where oversaturation is present.
I didn’t really think about which one I preferred myself, but I will say I don’t know if I’d be on board if they expanded it again while the league still has 30 teams.
Best format is the LCS-WS. We do not need anything resembling the monstrosity of the postseason that we have now. And I say this as a Rangers fan. Two teams from each league in a best-of-7 to go to the World Series.
At least give the league winners a bye to the LCS. I miss how the NFL had it: 4 top teams had the advantage of only 2 home wins needed to reach the super bowl. Makes the regular season more important.
In those 4 years it was a 9 game World Series did we ever realize a game 8 or 9 of the World Series just thinking of how weird it be to hear welcome in ladies in gentleman for this game 8 of the World Series or deciding game 9 of the World Series
So what we've learned is that, for the most part, the continual watering down of the postseason makes the regular season in baseball even more irrelevant than it is in the NBA.
Do you think if they continue to add more teams to the playoffs, do you think it goes the NHL route where the postseason is madness and no one is safe, or the NBA route where more often than not the best teams tend to win it all?
Good question, it depends on a lot of different variables but I lean more towards it being like the NHL than the NBA. Especially if baseball keeps these short 3 and 5 game rounds where the better team could easily have a couple rough games that just ends their year. If every round became 7 games similar to those other leagues, that would be a different story (I really hope they don’t do that)
Probably the NHL route for sure. I mean if you look at the most recent years in MLB, the wild card and lower seeded teams have consistently made deep runs (2023 D-Backs, 2022 Phillies, 2021 Braves, 2019 Nationals)
1981 cincinnati reds had the best record in baseball but missed the playoffs then things got worse for cincinnati in 1982 were the reds were one loss shy of being the worst team in baseball
At least for the Cardinals who also would’ve won their division traditionally, they got to win the World Series the very next year in ‘82 to make up for it. Sadly was the opposite for the Reds
I don't really get using 2020 as a way to prove that the expanded playoffs aren't upset machines when those playoffs didn't include byes. The entire point of the argument about the high-seeded teams having a disadvantage in the current format is that those teams have a bye (which happened in the 10-team format but could be made worse by a 3-game WCS rather than a 1-game WCS)
My favorite playoff format was 2012-2021 10 teams, tiebreaker games, and the WILD CARD GAME format was wrong but it was LIT. As ,8ch as I hate the 2022-format with the added extra team if they had more teams I will lose it. Note: 2020 playoffs were expanded due to a shortened season.
The team with the better regular season record in the World Series in the 1903-1968 era should not even be I'm the discussion of who was the better team. The AL and NL were different leagues and did not play each other. Therefore they had completely different schedules and their records meant nothing.
I honestly don’t really disagree with this entirely for teams with really close stats, but teams back then still were seen as favorites because of their performances in their respective leagues. Even in 1906, that World Series was considered to be a very lopsided matchup. So I can’t really agree that records meant nothing because of no interleague play.
Maybe if we just not have a 1 game wild card and the best non-division winner goes to DS automatically. (I would propose tiebreaker games for certain situations making a comeback however)
For me, the best format has to be 2 Division Winners per League, LCS Best of 7, WS Best of 7, so 1985-1993 (But I wouldn’t care if it was Best of 5 in the LCS, as long as if it was the 2-3 format (idk I prefer 2-3 over 2-2-1 for baseball)
The other thing I don't like is how they space the games out with the newer formats. 2-3 with 1 travel day was good. or 2-3-2 for best of 7. I hate when a team with a Randy Johnson or Madison Bumgarner (they were both amazing), can make 3 starts and steal a series for a lesser team on the arm of one dominant player (I was a pitcher), because of excess days off or TV scheduling. I also like Day games, even if I had to work. I compare that to football/hockey where too many TV timeouts give a less conditioned team time to catch their breath or strategize with video etc. Not a pure test.
The best team is not based on the regular season.. soccer leagues doesn't value wins its based on points accumulated.. sorry it doesn't mean they are the best
Yes, they do points instead of record or winning percentage, but the point I’m making is that there are no playoffs after the season in those European soccer leagues.
@ABrandNewBallGame soccer league don't value winning highly, they put point diff first, a team could have more wins abd still not win because they don't have enough points
This makes no sense, you earn 3 points for winning, 1 for a draw and 0 points if you lose. So basic math would tell you that you still need to win the most games during the season.

The Reds were punished for things "out of their control"?
Wait, who went on strike again? Oh yeah, the players! So it WAS in their control.

Xenoblade as background music to baseball. Nice 😉😁

Definitely NHL route just because of the nature of the game of baseball.
NBA ruined it with the play in games.
1981 cincinnati reds had the best record in baseball but missed the playoffs then things got worse for cincinnati in 1982 were the reds were one loss shy of being the worst team in baseball

Using Xenoblade 1 Music is a like for me

The point is to show that using a small sample to support an argument like that is oftentimes pretty flawed.
2024 disproved the bye week argument to a degree.

Alright
if you dont make the playoffs your team wasnt the best at anything that was important
Seattle would probably make the playoffs more of they had a split season 😂😂😂.
01 mariners were exhausted by the time the playoffs hit. Could have won it all if the just won 112 and didn't worry about the regular season record
The best team is the winner of the championship
3 divisions winners and 1 wild card was the best format. It's trash now. Mlb is silly.
Can't wait till mlb is like NBA where every team makes the playoffs. White Sox could have won the ws this year. It's just not fair
💯
Selig screwed this up by adding in the Wild Card Game. Then Manfred decided to expand the playoffs again as it MLB was a co-ed softball league.
I wholeheartedly agree with you.
