Power to weight ratio, yes. A 114 puts 90 hp at the rear wheel, weighing 300 kg. This new model would put 100 hp at the rear wheel, weighing 227 kg. Great looking bike with great spec’s for sure! It’s exactly the type of bike that would have fit my riding style when I was in my 20s and 30s. Unfortunately, I am now well into my 70s.
The 21 sportster s makes me want another bike.. badly. HD did a fantastic job of modernizing a classic design. The fat, meaty tires, wheel design, bar end mirrors, bronze accents, and an aftermarket style rear fender for the license plate from the factory help this bike look aggressive and attractive. I actually quite like the headlight too, which has been a turnoff for some. Now I just have to decide if I sell my ‘20 Mustang GT to be able to pick one of these up sooner.
From Cycleworld...."Suspension components feature compression and rebound damping adjustment, plus spring preload front and rear; however, they show what we expect to be painfully limited travel: 3.6 inches from the 43mm inverted fork and only 2.0 inches from the piggyback monoshock at the rear.." Two inches of rear wheel travel?? Curious to see how the actual rider reviews will be on this bike after HD releases this model to the review mags to ride.
I never knew WHY Harleys were/are SO heavy. My old Buell XB12-R (using a HD sportster 1200cc engine) weighed in at 179kg dry. The donor bike 240kgs (dry). What are they making them out of LEAD? I'm not a fan of this new bike personally but I can see it selling for HD though.
I don't see this as a direct replacement for the old Sportster (I have a feeling there will be a 975cc bike coming for that) and I don't see it as a parallel to the Scout as it blows past the Scout models in nearly every conceivable way. It actually seems to me to be more of an Indian FTR analog with a cruiser-like setup instead of the FTR's standard setup. In that sense, it is less niche than the FTR because there are very few true standard bikes on the market (FTR, Z900RS and what else?) while cruisers are sold in large numbers. It is also priced similarly to the FTR as well.
It looks ok. Don't like the high pipes and letterbox light though. Round light and lower pipes that look less plasticy would be good. So would a slightly lighter weight, cheaper price and having max torque at 5k. Hope they make a smaller engined one....
I really hope the Sportster S does well for Harley but, on first impressions, I can’t say I’m a fan of the styling. I don’t like the chopped off back end and the consequently inevitable number plate/rear light swing arm mount, and I suspect the high mounted exhaust will cook your right leg. Calling it a Sportster invites comparison with the outgoing model, but that was the entry point for the Harley range, price wise. The new bike costs more than the Softail Standard!

Stability control with IMu standard/3 modes vs only optional ABS with old version.
How does this channel only have 160k subs? Narration is top notch 👌
I agree, that single disc Brembo in the front better be enough stopping power! Why not just include 2 disc on bikes this powerful? Boggles the mind! Other than that, I like it and will definitely one of the bikes to consider when I want to trade up. Hopefully HD listens and changes that front brake set up.
I like the Forward Pegs or better yet, Floorboards. I like to see a Full Rear Fender.
Is that rear fender enough to keep you from getting splattered? It almost looks too short. I also wonder how far you will get on only 3 gallons
Is a passenger seat available?
Give me some mids, another disc up front and different head lamp. Otherwise I'm loving what Harley is doing with these engines.
Great looking bike with great spec’s for sure! It’s exactly the type of bike that would have fit my riding style when I was in my 20s and 30s. Unfortunately, I am now well into my 70s.
If you can still ride, in fit condition, why not? If so, age is just a number. Harrison Ford is still looking GREAT doing it.
Nice to see Harley getting their act in gear.
From Cycleworld...."Suspension components feature compression and rebound damping adjustment, plus spring preload front and rear; however, they show what we expect to be painfully limited travel: 3.6 inches from the 43mm inverted fork and only 2.0 inches from the piggyback monoshock at the rear.."
Two inches of rear wheel travel?? Curious to see how the actual rider reviews will be on this bike after HD releases this model to the review mags to ride.
Harley's coming back stronger than before
I never knew WHY Harleys were/are SO heavy.
They should have gave it 4.5 inches of suspension travel and 40-45° lean angle
yes
Got to admire the effort
Too bad they did not think about the brake system. I would like to see dual rotors up front.
Yes
yes
It looks ok. Don't like the high pipes and letterbox light though. Round light and lower pipes that look less plasticy would be good. So would a slightly lighter weight, cheaper price and having max torque at 5k. Hope they make a smaller engined one....
Yes!! A pillion seat option!💯💯
Finally something for us younger riders.
i dont think single caliper with 4 pots and 3 digits power with 228 kg mix well
It pisses me off that Euro standards are responsible for killing the air cooled Sportster. Sure, more power but way more complicated. Not for me
Finally! A proper bike from Harley
That's a home run for HD@!
Heavy weight/powerful engine: let's put single-disc brake on the front.
Also equipped with a 6 speed gear box
They have gone mad.
I'm hoping this new bike drops the value of the Sportster 1200s. I would like to get a 1200T.
I started to Get a tad excited then remembered the Indian FTR1200 wallops it in every area.
To me, it seems like a miniature V-Rod. Performance numbers are impression. Should prove to be a reliable machine.
Now it depends on the handling !
Single disc brake caliper only on the front. On a bike that weights over 230kg with 120 ponies 🧐
Looks pretty nice...can't believe they even sold the previous model by comparison
Man, your videos are always the best to get the complete news!
Appreciate that CR! Your support is always a big help 🙏
I'd rather put the extra cash into an air cooled sporty. Will it sound like a Harley or as good as the Sportster? I doubt it
Looks fantastic, might be my first HD!?
So a new V-Rod? No hate, I owned a 2003 and thought it was a great bike. I'd consider this.
You’re just great motobob, just great. 👍
Belt or chain?????
That loooks bonkers 🤯
