    Funnily enough George RR Martin does have certain infatuation with turtles and he had many as pets even going as far as to say "turtles have always been my sigil, I suppose."

    I love hearing newcomers' experiences. Especially when it's really nicely thought out and explained like this video. It actually makes me really glad to see a lot of people broaden the community, and I love how a lot of newer people are coming to learn that the Souls difficulty is all in the intent and the world you're playing in. Though as you said.... it doesn't stop the vitriolic "discourse".

      @sebastianfallman9876 2 ปีที่แล้ว +39

      Exactly and what I love the most is that every, single, person that pushes through the initial struggle says the same thing. "It really isn't that bad" or "I was so discouraged by their reputation but once I got it, it was so much fun and not at all impossible and masochistic". I just wish that the people complaining about difficulty every time FromSoft realeases a game would listen to these people. It IS part of the core experience and it feels great to "get it" for the first time.

    Once after clearing a dungeon, i had an insane number of runes on me, but not enough to level up.
    Considering that if i die, i will loose them anyway, i decided to go to the merchant i found some time ago to spent them. Going to his location at night though, i was surprised he was nowhere to be found, and a few seconds after, a boss health bar appeared with the name "bell bearing Hunter".

    It's been amazing for me to watch this series grow since Demon's Souls came out. That game's difficulty was tempered because you could easily leave a level and switch to four different levels and bash your head against those instead. Elden Ring has taken that concept and done it a hundred times better.

  • @gavinsepicgaming9835

    I am late, but I have never played a souls game and I went into elden ring, and aside from learning how to get good for the first few bosses it was quite easy, you just have to learn to keep on going and give that boss 1000000 tries and you'll always win, but most of the time its more like 10-15 tries and if the boss is feeling too hard there are some op builds that can shred them if you really want to use them, so its not so hard it feels unfair but its hard enough to be a souls game, if you die once and immediately quit you'll never win and you just have to keep going, death after death until you get that final blow and you win and it will be so rewarding, plus the fighting along the way will be fun too, don't be afraid to try it just don't give up.

  • @FilmmakerJ
    @FilmmakerJ ปีที่แล้ว +2

    From my own experience, I've made progress in Elden Ring, but I still haven't gotten past the Fire Giant, and it takes forever and a half to gather runes. The earlier Souls games and Bloodborne gradually build up how many souls or blood echos you get at each stage of the game, which allows you to grow at a similar rate at each section. The only reason I've gotten to Level 102 in Elden Ring is because I spent hours grinding levels. In the older Souls games, you never really had to do that, maybe just a little to grind up 3 or 4 extra levels. But Elden Ring got me to grind up 20, 25, 30, 35 levels because places like Caelid remain hard and hell to traverse even during the late game.
    Admittedly, my boyfriend has taken to Elden Ring really well when the Bloodborne held them back. But that being said, I think if you can pick up how to play the earlier games without much trouble, they can be a more forgiving experience. Personally, I'd recommend anyone try to play Dark Souls 1 first, and if you can't get through it very well, then shift over to Elden Ring, because if one doesn't work for you, I think the other will. Late game play for either, though, is probably going to be equally tough.

    I love the hints you can buy from merchants, for example theres a hidden merchant at the southern end of the limgrave beach under building debris, he will sell you a note that tells you that the weakness of stonedigger trolls is the head, and after that I ended up finding a stone trigger troll and one little dink to the head with an arrow staggers him (along with all the regular trolls as well), there are hints in the game if you try to find them and its pretty cool.

    I have played every souls game before from fromsoft with Bloodborne being my all time favorite. I put 180 hours into my first playthrough of Elden Ring and got my first Platinum ever. Needless to say I love this game and even tho I'm familiar with suffering in these games in general I loved being able to just run somewhere else when I felt like beating my head against a wall too much and come back later better prepared. Also and this is something I don't feel with many open world games or any game for that matter. I wanted to explore EVERYTHING. Everything looked intriguing and i wanted to see what is on the horizon and what it might mean in the grand scheme of the absolute stunning lore. Great achievement and i hope I'll encounter more games that spark the sense of adventure like Elden Ring did. Great content as always. Thank you man :) much love from Germany!

    Every GameStop employee at my town straight up WARNED ME about Elden Ring to even giving me the history of the game’s release. After they went through the other title I wanted which was Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice they all looked at me in a worrisome fashion 😳

    As a souls/borne player, I definetly think it is a more accessible game for people who want to get into the genre where a lot of it depends on open world and the fact you can use summons without the Boss HP doubling.

    Elden ring is my third souls game ive played blood born and dark souls 3, i never beat them because i was young. Now I know what im doing, this game was a great way to learn how to play souls games even if they dont have turrent summons or multiplayer, 10/10 from a first timer

    Shines a light on why I "fell out" of fallout 4. It was basically kill everyone, kill one faction or the other, or destroy the machines. And even though most places were "different" it was really only as far as environment. From soft adds enemies and twists routes when recycling designs in a way that transforms it in a refreshing way.

    My first FromSoftware game was Sekiro.
    I originally wanted to play Ghost of Tsushima, but I've an Xbox and Sekiro looked similar enough to it that I just bought it. Boi was I wrong.
    I didn't know the name FromSoftware at the time, so yeah. My first FromSoft game was purely accidental, but I recommend it a lot.

    If you are scared to try this game out and wanna try it out, maybe get on discord and into a Elden Ring community and get the game and ask someone to give you Bloodhound step weapon, or just go mage or both if you want to be a untouchable god (in pve) that can nuke every boss.

    The only gripe I had with the video was when you said you didn't realize what the spirit summoning sign was. Upon unlocking the spirit calling bell it tells you that only special areas marked with that symbol allow you to spirit summon. In fact any new player who completely chooses to skip through the tips/tutorials (if they chose to) they can always go into the pause button and somewhere in that menu you're allowed to re-read any of the tips given to you throughout the game. Other than that, I thought this was extremely well thought out and articulated very well.
    Edit: For clarification, I have never played a DS game before and Elden ring was my very first. At first I was very overwhelmed by the immense amount of things you can do. But then I realized you have the full ability to choose what you want to do and how to play the game. You can run pass any enemy straight to the boss of an area if you've 1. already explored the whole area and either die or revisit a grace to respawn the enemies, or 2. you died at the boss and you have to make the run again if there's no respawn point by. But by exploring and learning and actually taking the time to figure things out, the game rewards you with an experience that is completely yours. You can choose however you want to build, you can choose to do any side quests for anything you want. Even a lot of the areas are optional, The Haligtree, The Palace of Blood, Nokron and Nokstella could also be considered optional because you'd have to take Ranni's quest in order to get there and would otherwise have no real purpose of going there unless you wanted some items from there. In my personal opinion the non-linear path can be really confusing and disorienting for new players, I knew it was for me, but there's also so many videos and guides out there to help. In the end, Elden ring is what you make of it, you can choose to make it difficult and challenging for yourself or you can choose to make things easier.

    The first Fromsoft game I got was Bloodborne, I tried for 45 minutes to get past the very first area with the mob. I said F this and brought it back to GameStop. Fast forward 3 years it was on sale and I said F it ima try again! I watched a few walk-throughs and once I understood the mechanics it became my #1 of all time. So naturally I dug into the rest of the Fromsoft catalog and each title was so refreshing its really the only games I play now (over and over again) Sekiro, the Dark Souls trilogy and now Elden Ring (2nd playthrough) I highly recommend visiting the other titles for the same thrill of accomplishment. The interconnectivity of the game area helps not having a open world.

    I haven't played through any of the souls games before, but I had just finished Immortals: Fenyx Rising, and Elden Ring definitely filled the open world hole in my heart that Fenyx left. I had stayed away from dark souls because it wasn't worth the frustration in my eyes, but with Elden Ring, I love that I can come back to things later and that there are so many different kinds of weapons, spells, and ashes of war that each fight can be done with a different approach and each person's loadout feels special. I do feel in retrospect that as a person with no prior souls game experience I should have gone with a shield or spells but between status effects and summons I haven't really gotten frustrated with bosses

    I really wanted to be the first in the game at sth when it came out. And since I wouldn't be the first guy defeating any boss, I climed the massive tree in Caelid with torret all the way to the top. It took 3.5 hours but aparrently you can't do it anymore and if noone has proof of them doing it I might just be the only person who ever got there legitimately. :) Kinda feels nice.

    I knew the game was going to have issues on PC when they opened pre-orders but still didn't have the minimum system requirements posted, and then it was literally going on a week from release and they still had not updated the minimum specs. Everybody else probably wasn't checking that close and they shouldn't need to, but I just had a bad feeling. Glad that I was in a position to be able to get it for the PS4 instead, but that doesn't make it any less terrible

    its definitely just me, but i tried Elden Ring, and i didn't really feel it click with me. i then tried some of the other souls games, (ds1, sekiro, etc.) and it was super engaging. (i especially liked sekiro because parrying is sick as hell but i digress) im an outlier most likely, but i much prefer a more straight forward narrative. unlike most people, open worlds feel overwhelming to me, like i have so much stuff to do that it becomes frustrating. that could just be me and my simple minded self, but it rots a hole through my brain.
    tl;dr: if you love open world games, and dont mind challenge, play Elden Ring. you'll enjoy it.

    Elden ring is my first "dark souls" like game and I enjoy it quite a bit. My one nitpick is the multiplayer, I have a friend who was showing me the ropes and helping me a little and the invading shit is fucking annoying, every 5 minutes I die cause I'm new and we have to reset the summon sign and start all over again just for another 5 minutes to pass by and it all happens again. Sometimes we spend 45 minutes to an hour and we literally progressed 10 minutes of the game, its very frustrating.
