    WHAT IS DIVERSITY?
    “Diversity means that everyone is unique and that we should all recognize that everyone has individual differences and needs. A diverse organization will strive to employ people from varying genders, religions, race, education, sexual orientation and other attributes.
    Society is diverse and it is my strong opinion that to serve its customers well, and to provide exceptional levels of service, the organization should be diverse, too. Diversity means understanding that everyone is unique and recognizing all our individual differences.
    A diverse workplace helps facilitate staff retention and it also encourages open dialogue and communication which can only be a good thing for any organization.”
    DIVERSITY IN THE WORKPLACE INTERVIEW QUESTIONS:
    Q1. What is your understanding of diversity?
    Q2. What is respect and dignity and how would you demonstrate this in the workplace?
    Q3. What are the different ways we can promote diversity and inclusion in the workplace?
    Q4. What is “reasonable adjustment” in the workplace?
    Q5. You overhear a work colleague in the canteen making an inappropriate or derogatory remark. What would you?
    Q6. What experience do you have of working with people from different backgrounds?
    Q7. Tell me a time when you supported diversity in an organization?
    Q8. Tell us a time when you led a diverse team to a positive outcome?
    Q9. Tell me a time when you supported diversity in the workplace?
    Q10. How would you ensure diversity and equality in your management style?
    Q11. Can you give an example when you have challenged inappropriate behaviour in a working environment?
    Q12. Tell me about a time when you promoted or supported change within an organisation?
    Q13. Tell me a time when you worked closely with an individual or group of people from a different background to yourself?
    Q14. Describe a time when you noticed a member of your team acting in a manner which was inconsistent with the organisation’s values?

    In the US, you have two 10 or 15 min breaks and half or one hour unpaid lunch break. Many states don’t require the employer to give breaks or time off for lunch. Taking time to pray must be on your break. It’s like smoking. You don’t get more breaks than other people to smoke or pray. If you need to take care of your child, you have a job where you can take care of them from home or they go to daycare. You can’t have your personal issues affect your job duties. Maybe the UK is different?

      @thegreengoddess8850 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@CareerVidz you are saying that people that need to pray or take care of their kids need to be accommodated which isn't possible in the US. Besides, everyone wants to be treated the same, so if someone needs to pray, they MUST do it within their allotted break time or everyone else will want another 10 minutes of free time as well. It is not sustainable for a business to work that way. I put this in my prior comment.

    This video was published 3 years ago. Since then, DEI has become utter lunacy. If I attended an interview where they asked me to answer questions about it I’d walk right out of the door and not look back. Working for a company that has “DEI” at its forefront would be fraught with relentless challenges by an HR team that’s offended by literally everything, would drag you into the office to performance manage you if you say you prefer white coffee, you’d be walking on egg shells, and if a colleague were to take a dislike to you for any reason whatsoever, all they’d have to do is say you’re racist or sexist with no evidence, and you’d be at best enrolled into a compulsory “wrong think” training workshop, or at worst flat-out fired without a chance to defend yourself. No thanks.

    If someone in the work place is making an inappropriate or derogatory remark perhaps the correct response would be that I need to receive more diversity training so that I can accept people with diverse opinions from that of my own. Who's to say that I have the right to force my morality on someone with a different upbringing................. Are you starting to understand why diversity hasn't happened naturally hundreds of years ago? Birds of a feather flock together. That is plain basic human nature, we like to be around people that make us comfortable and share the same moral code of conduct. It isn't up to us to correct someone else's cultural background or upbringing.

    • @CareerVidz

      I see what you mean, but you should challenge unacceptable behaviour always.

    • @erth2man
      @erth2man 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@CareerVidz Unacceptable behavior to who exactly? There is illegal behavior that is already accounted for but behavior that you personally find offensive IS diversity. There are cultures of some people that will clash with others and they will find them to be offensive. As a supervisor of many years I've encountered certain types of people that will simply not get along and will clash with others no matter how hard you try to re-educate them to the wonders of diversity and acceptance. Are you starting to understand exactly where that slippery slope of forced diversity acceptance will take us? I find it to be amazing that we were able to accomplish as much as we have in spite of diversity, not because of it.

    As a regular employee looking to do a job, I fail to see why I should be confronted with these questions at interview, unless I am actually hiring people for a role in this field. it seems to me that employees are forced to adopt views that conform to an ideal liberal-left type (what the organisation calls 'its values') but, in the process, may in fact discriminate against those who don't hold to some of these same views, even if their views are they are not illegal, nor do they incite illegal behaviour.

      @@legally_ellecee1309Not really. It’s gotten ridiculous. It doesn’t hold the same weight when it’s evident they are asking the questions because they feel outside pressure they have to. I’ve sat on several interview teams and we are all rolling our eyes when given these questions, often times one is mandatory. It’s disingenuous and simply checking a box, that the question was asked. Do you think people are going to admit they are attending KKK or that they discriminate openly in the workplace? Not to mention there are already LAWS in place that place accountability on everyone to be actively compliant with discrimination at work, even stretching to employee’s social media. Focus on the individual’s ability to do the job and stop perpetuating this box-checking narrative.

    KSA or DIE.
    If you’re a government worker or a veteran that has applied for a government job your qualifications are based upon:
    KSA = Knowledge, Skills, Ability.
    DIE = Diversity, Inclusion, Equity (Equity is not the same as Equality) does nothing to prove an individual’s Knowledge,
    Skills and Ability to do the job.
    If a company feels compelled to add a DIE hiring manager or change their company logo to rainbow colors to pander to the LGBTQ group or DIE group, it’s perceived as patronizing and thus that company may be suspect or actually guilty of past discriminatory hiring practices.
    The bottom line…any Federal, State, public or private company that discriminates against a person’s race, religion, age, gender, sexual orientation, political affiliation, economic status, veteran status or disability is in violation of State and Federal employment laws. Teach your children well.

    You did not explains what equality of pay means.
    For the rest, the best answer is to always hire themes st qualified person for the job regardless of any other factors. If that person has special needs in order to do their best, then make reasonable accomodations. Finally, since you are hiring the most qualified candidates for every person in your organization, make sure everyone in the organization understands this and understands that mutual respect for each other is required.

    The problem with this is that people need to do their jobs. Diversity has nothing to do with pushing papers, answering phones and following the law in the US that not one is discriminated against. I had an interview and they asked only two questions about my experience or qualifications and the rest were about diversity and asking the proper question for them. Ridiculous. People need to work and the focus should be on skills and getting the job done not all this other nonsense.
    People need to be treated equally and stop putting so much focus on differences that put walls between, boxes around and labels on everyone. People poo in the morning, eat, brush teeth, pay bills, go to work. The things were are the same in need to be the focus and not differences. Lame.

      @@CareerVidz that’s reality and at a job you are there to do a function. It isn’t about the person and any personal needs besides physical issues like ergonomic workspace issues. You aren’t at a job to be you. That is why work is being done at a lower level with less productivity in recent years because the focus isn’t on the actual job. Truth is scary huh?

    Question 1. My answer: this question is extremely non-specific. Can you extrapolate further and may I ask the intent of this question?
    Question 2. My answer: what do you consider an inappropriate or derogatory remark? This is subjective. I need a specific example or I reject the question.
    Question 3. My answer: I invite everyone, regardless of the current definition of diversity, to perform your job with equal competence, based on your job description, for the purposes of generating a positive revenue stream.
    Question 4. My answer: Are you aware that you are speaking to an adult? I reject the question, because it is babyish and degrading. It is the opposite of respect and dignity. Perhaps you should ask yourself that question.
    Question 5. My answer: accommodation for someone with an ascertainable and recognized disability/impairment, who is otherwise qualified, as long as it does not present an undue financial hardship to the organization.
    My score: 5/5. When do I start?
