I am such a huge fan of St Vincent. She holds her own jamming on the guitar and coming up with crazy catchy hooks. Her lyrics are intelligent and she is very comfortable with being her own person. She is a fave of mine. St Vincent + Ellen show = awesome time for all!
which is funny because she's confused about her sexuality and she also thinks she's actually a good guitar player which is the furthest thing from the truth
This is alternative, I think a lot of people confuse alternative music with indie music... Just because it's different doesn't make it indie. For bands or artists to be indie they need to be in an independent label. For example Radiohead is indie, because they are an independent band, but they are really popular, the same with Bjork Independent artists: Radiohead, Bjork, Jose Gonzalez. Alternative: Arctic Monkeys, St. Vincent, Muse...
She was originally signed to Beggars Banquet, an independent record label. Then she was signed to 4AD, an independent record label. Now she is signed to Loma Vista, an independent record label.
She's really great, but I noticed quite a few comments about how this will shock middle-aged women. Like the middle-aged women who grew up with punk, new wave, and/or grunge? Siouxie, Annie Lennox, Peaches, Shirley Manson, Bjork, Patti Smith. Bif Naked, P. J. Harvey, Poly Styrene, Nina Hagen on the old victrola.... lol
Not a middle-aged woman myself but I know a shit load that would wholeheartedly agree. I liked your reply because it is true and love that it is so hard for the kids to rebel when the music we listened to was so different. I put it down to challenging music is interesting, but talent always comes first. Annie ticks a lot of boxes for me musically. BTW - Chrissie Hynde is missing from your list, and though not a rock'n'roll rebel or even rock'n'roll : Liz Frazer just for being the voice of god, period. :)
Litrally the best album of the decade Annie has nailed it , every song is perfect melodically lyrically and the production is ridiculous Goosebumps every time , especially happy birthday Johnny , powerful

I first saw Anne talking on a BBC documentary about Kate Bush. So I checked her out today and found this performance and my she blew me away. Looks like St Vincent have a new fan.
@@collectiveconscious2324 I have to wonder if any of her fans even play guitar, it seems like she's just posing and emoting, is she even plugged in? I don't actually want to bash her skills, but I've watch like 5 videos and I've yet to see her play anything that isn't purely ornamental. I think this is a classic case of the guitarist's girlfriend pulling him to a concert and then having to say something about her playing in order to justify the drool on his chin.
Jenn Clay that’s very true. no one is obligated to like it. music may be subjective when it comes to enjoying it sonically, but credit has to be given when it’s factually excellent!
She does have a great voice and I appreciate the visual art used in her creations, but the music itself doesn't appeal to me. That's not a shot at her as a person or anyone who does like her music. I listen to plenty of stuff other people probably detest. It's just differing tastes.
So many people like mainstream music, and when it comes to St. Vincent they dont understand how briliant her music is.. MASSEDUCTION is really good tho.
Mohammad Reza Prasetya I don’t like mainstream music... my complaint about this album is that it sounds TOO mainstream for a supposed “indie” artist. No diss to Annie, it’s just not my thing.
I can't believe you guys missed Ellen totally into Annie's upskirt at 3:54. I knew she was up to something the moment she threw herself at her under the pretense of unplugging the guitar. XD
Amazing social criticism right there. Shock em annie! (Really if this shocked you don't just get angry or shut off, think about why it shocked you and what annie is doing here) Cool to see ellen jammin along
I last saw her when she and David Byrne toured together, and I can’t wait to see her next month, just a few days before trekking over to Morocco and Spain.
Thanks Ellen, I cannot get Los Ageless out of mind since you had St. Vincent on your show. BTW, I record your show every day. I am a 50 year hetero and have been following you since your first Ellen show. You are too cool. You have changed the world! Also, I have been a counselor for 30 years and have written many letter on the behalf of those who are considering gender reassignment. Luv you!!! - Dee
Never heard of her. Pleasantly surprised!! Lately everything and everyone sounds so generic and this was so authentic!!
Jennifer Wright she covered Lithium by on the Nirvana reunion. Think it was the hall of fame induction. That brought me here. Worth a look!
Jennifer Wright listen to the shaggs
She's one of the most creative musicians I've heard, from album to album, the creativity never stops

I've never seen any female solo guitarist perform like that in Asia. The choreography, the song, the vibe...this is ART. fan from Taiwan
How about Ringo Shiina?
When I use to think about music in the future this was pretty much what I imagined...
Chinchilla hats well, it is the future isn't it?
Ehm you should listen to Charli xcx last works then
Classical Classic No. It's the present. It's never the future.
T.E.C._1 It's the pasts future bruh.
Alexander Kundert Yea I was just teasing them.
I kinda luv that Ellen says it is one of her favorite songs and then cut to her fangirling in the audience during the performance.
You love that, huh?
It's funny, given what we know about Ellen now, that she would like this song.
3:26 Same Ellen, same
what's wrong with y'all? she's unique, this mix of alternative rock and synth pop isn't for everyone, sure. But still, she's original and great tbh
What rock? She is pop, there is nothing of rock on it

Nah. She sucks. It's as simple as that. Sometimes a gimmick is all you need to impress simpletons.
How about Garbage?

Thank you for confusing the mainstream Annie. We love you for it
Christina Gina Is it rock? Is it pop? Is it electronic?
It doesn't matter. It's just St. Vincent being wonderful.

Sage Torrisi honestly
You can see her blushing in the intro...
actually youre just a cringe lord celeb worship creep
This must have been the hottest performance on Ellen to date. Awesome song. Reminds me so much of Queens of the Stone Age.
DJ Justice “Garbage” was a band. It was meant as a compliment. Pay attention to context. You’re welcome.

I looooove Annie, but, St Vincent ain’t got anything on those desert boys.

Props to Ellen for this one.

Ilja Edwards bold claim.
Sort of, yeah, although she really is a virtuoso (virtuosa?) on guitar!
Just less famous, rich, and talented but yeah let's go with that.
Much closer to David Byrne: not really able to sing but transmuting that limitation into a style.
