I don't think it was meant to be funny. I don't care how talented you are, a performance of this caliber is an investment of time, energy, and most importantly, passion. And Tom Holland is not gonna disrespect any of the performative arts he's classically trained in since he was a kid, And we know he's definitely NOT throwing shade at RIHANNA. It's meant to be taken literally. And it's literally iconic because of it.
The thing that amazes me is that he doesn't seem to drop a syllable with the lipsync. He's doing some insanely difficult dance moves, tough enough that no one would really notice (especially in that outfit) and just to cap it all off he doesn't miss a single word.
What I most appreciate (besides ALL of it) is that he missed a couple of counts and he corrects for it like a pro! Plus, just thinking of him practicing the crap out of this in his living room before he showed up makes me happier than it should.

Depending on the type of flip and landing, there are all sorts of techniques to stop them from injuring themselves. I'm not 100% sure tho cuz I'm not a dancer but I've watched plenty of dance videos and movies.
