    Wow i honestly didn't expect this video to do so well as it was my first video ever made. For those asking for an update, i am almost ready to post a follow up! Thanks again for watching!! It's my understanding that if a video gets 2000 likes, YT will begin suggesting it to a larger audience. Not sure if this is true or not but considering im almost at 1000 likes already, i would love to put that rumor to the test with this video, so if you wouldn't mind giving the video a like i would really appreciate it! Thanks again!

    • @Tarttaken
      @Tarttaken 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Most plants usually glow around reddish or purplish under UV because of chlorophyll. I would say that’s not a bad idea but I don’t think aloe Vera would be the plant to use, it doesn’t really match the alien pandora vibes

    Passion Flower, Chinese Ground Orchid (but orchids can be tricky), Pink Lady’s Slipper, California Poppy, Lacy Phacelia, Bee balm flower all glow under UV light. Tonic water and vitamin B also glow. I know sometimes flowers absorb colors if you put the dye in their water, I wonder if they absorb fluorescent color too.

    I live in the Pacific Northwest and I've seen glowing lichen on trees and the forest floor at night before at a friend's house when I was younger. No black light/UV needed! Not sure what kind it was, I was a teen and I'm 39 now. But just wanted to mention that some mosses and plants from the state like Washington and New York etc need to go through a dormancy period and get cold etc so may not be suitable for a vivarium. But this is a cool idea! There are bioluminescent mushroom kits you can purchase also to seed the vivarium but be careful with the mushroom pins and springtails and other vivarium cleanup crew as they like to eat fungus!

      ahhhhh, now this is a brilliant question actually and something im researching. i have noticed that when it comes to bioluminescence in plants, its not only the wavelength that matters but also the intensity and direction of the light. i have directed uv flashlights on plants and they only minimally fluoresce but when the light is focused, the florescence gets much brighter. this leads me to believe that in order to get the most reactive display, a more spotlight type of light would be better than florescent tubes or leds. its definitely something im playing around with and will post results when i have them

      i cant do much until i find more leafy and flowering plants that naturally fluoresce..i have several people in tropical plant groups very interested in this project and they have ordered UV flashlights so they can help test. I always suspected that something like this would need to be a community project because there are just too many plant species that need to be tested. Im certain that there are some really amazing species hiding out there but its going to take a community effort to find them. I hope to start getting some people posting there results soon.

      Yeah, it sucks that I have to hear someone talking in the background while I'm trying to listen to the beautiful ceiling fan.

    You found a lot of stuff that glow WITH UV light, but what about finding ones that, even with a few hour "charge", glow without a UV light? According to the information you shared about your research about animals being able to glow, NON OF THEM where explained to be able to glow without UV lights. this confused me because the articles you shared said that animals have developed the "ability" to glow, but no one has ever been able to just walk outside to find these special animals glowing on theire own in complete darkness. Even that pitcher plant cant "glow" without artificial light shining on it. Not that impressive nor anything like pandora unless they can do it completely on their own just as all the plants and animals in pandora do. Thats what iv been on the search for for so many years now.
