You're the main reason I even started keeping fish - I tried to buy some tanks on sale in March to build a vivarium/terrarium but then realized all the plants and rocks would be difficult to acquire quickly so I just got into fishkeeping lmao
This is GORGEOUS! For the size of the tank, I think more lights would have moved it from awesome and classy, into almost garish. You struck the perfect balance. We used to collect beach glass, which would be perfect for this, so would tumbled glass.

Gotta say mate, I totally agree about this being one of your best scapes yet. It's not even normally my style since I normally prefer the very natural and dense looks that you usually go for, but something about this one is totally unique but still has that naturalistic FEEL. Loving the pop of green with the simple plants, and the fish were definitely the perfect choice!!
I asked for something like this a couple times and this is JUST how I imagined it! You did an absolutely stunning job. Using the glass shards over the lights? Gorgeous. Definitely something I might explore in the future. And the fish look great in there and are a great pairing. They look like they appear from out of the shadows. It is very ethereal and fantasy-like and I really enjoy when you try new things and make bullds that are a little out of the norm. This is why you’re my favorite fishtuber!

Won;t be able to keep longer finned fish in there though great for a tetra hide away but anything with jagged glass can't or shouldn't really be around fish with long fins as they catch and tear. this would be more a plant aquarium. Actually this would probably be a really go breeder tank for ghost shrimp they'd look awesome in here,
I love how the fish sometimes turn to look down the crystal tunnels, like they're explorers preparing to go into a mysterious cave. Great work as always Tanner!
I agree with you, this is one of my favorite builds that you have done. I've been thinking of scape ideas for a 33 gallon long tank as like a rocky river type setup, and this gives me the perfect idea for how the underwater scape should look. The black lava rock with the glowing gems look would fit it perfect.

Volcanic rock was a perfect choice! This reminds me of rock-hounding in Maui: You can find beautiful gemstones, like peridot, embeded into the basaltic rocks strewn across the beaches of volcanic islands.
This is really interesting. It’s not my aesthetic, but I could see myself trying something more subtle. Black Neons are one of my favorite fish choices!
That is a refreshing new take on how aquariums looked in the 70's, with the neon green gravel and sunken ships, and whatnot. I agree, if they made the lights a little smaller, and more of them would be an improvement.
I used to fantasize about creating glowing crystal gem formations just like this! This was long before LED lights were so easy and available to come by. The dream was lost to time and life and here you are, living it! Your creation may have just given me the inspiration I need to finally begin designing my waterfall/paludarium in a small terrarium.
OMG it's beautiful, the black neon tetras really go well with the rest of the aesthetic and the sand/gravel and the crystals just make it seem mystical

That's the most unique and beautiful scape I have ever seen in the tank community over the years, I literally don't have the words to describe how I feel getting to experience this
My dude. I have always loved glowing stuff and I love fish too. Combining the two has never been something I thought was really possible. But with LEDs and the way things turned out this loom awesome. Another Idea I have is to add in rocks that reacts to ultra violet light. Aka “black light” and then obviously use a black light to illuminate the tank. Also, I hate saying this because I don’t like the fish, but maaaaaaaybe put some glo light fish in there to see what they look like! 🤷♂️ 🫣😂 any who. Great job in the glowing tank. Looks awesome!
Omg, me too!! It is a dream of mine to have a planted millipede tank with UV reactive glass decorations. I collect uranium glass that glows under blacklight, some millipedes also glow under blacklight, and I think it would have such a cool otherworldly look.... Glad to see another UV fan haha!

This is absolutely amazing Tanner. It looks beautiful on its own, but I think this type of fantasy/gemstone vibe combined with your regular naturalistic style could be even more interesting. If I get the chance to make a build like this, I think I would fill the rest up with plants, maybe even some riparian growth coming from the top of the structure so some roots grow down across the caves. I'm thinking black raven zz, dragon's tongue, and maybe some interestingly colored begonia and tradescantia up top and some dark bucephalandra in the bottom to keep the fantasy vibe going. Your work is so inspiring and it's so impressive that you never stop having more ideas and executing them so well, even with one hand!
This cave turned out really cool. I love neon glow in the dark looks. I also enjoyed the naturalistic sounds in this video of you scraping and molding that’s as relaxing 😌

First, this is one of the cooler, more creative builds you've done. I've never really been a fan of more "unnatural" feeling builds, this one definitely defied that. I agree that at least one more light would have been beneficial. Next, I love the format of this video. It's more calm, a solid mash-up of instructional and relaxing. Every video tops the last and you're so good at what you do. Thanks for another great start to the weekend!
This looks amazing! The only thing I don't like about this design is that you have to cut through the foam to replace the lights. They are probably led and should last longer than the scape will be in use, but still just in case something goes wrong I like the option to easily switch things out
Yeah I had the same thought, he probably did it like this since he didn't have both hands fully operational for this video. Now the best way to do it is to basically make some kind of light boxes that you build the crystals out of. But that isn't always so easy to do with one hand
I had misgivings about this build at first. It could have looked tacky, too gimmicky. I was wrong! The finished tank is magical and beautiful. No tackiness anywhere. Congrats, Tanner!
Easily one of the most gorgeous builds! I like the stocking choice with those tetras alot the blue/purple hue brings out that little stripe real nice. But SERIOUSLY LIVING for this build!

I'm obsessed with this build - so much so I plan on making my own version in the future. I also have aspirations to experiment with adding some extra functions. I'm really into building and playing modular synthesizers. Maybe you've seen them before, think of a giant shelf full of modules with lots of knobs, jacks, faders, and patch cables you connect all the modules with to make sounds and music. Very simplified, you make connections that push voltages around within the synthesizer to make it work. I have an idea to install light reactive resistors. So any time a fish swims by an area with light, their shadows would change how might light is picked up by the resistor which I can then use to send a control voltage trigger or something that affects what the synthesizer does. It could change pitch or duration of a note, or the amount of reverb, or even just control the color of the lights. Depending on how the synthesizer is patched, their movement could be a source of modulation (wiggling a knob) which is what makes the synthesizer really come alive. In a way, it would be like the fish are playing the synthesizer! It's a big project, and even if those things don't end up working this build would be a perfect ambiance/inspiration to look at while I spend hours playing with the synthesizer. I hope to share it with you someday. Thank you so much for your hard work and sharing your art with us. I love following your channel, it's an endless source of inspiration. My wife and I plan on getting frogs and I know with the help of your videos we'll be able to build an amazing habitat for them together to put in our own little animal room. Watching your videos makes me want to refresh an old aquarium that I have in my garage. It was set up in my parents house for years when I was a child I need to figure out how to reseal it and then do something cool with it!
Every time I think you can’t exceed your last effort, you knock it out of the park. It’s mysterious and dark yet the glass gives some light. Like a geode built into an aquarium. I really fell in love with this.
I really needed this today, thank you. I was seriously overwhelmed from anxiety and pain issues, and watching this got me ready to function for the day.
I really like the look of this tank, it's visually stunning. I've been in the hobby 40+ years and have to say this is the most original and beautiful aquarium I have seen... a masterpiece. When I first looked at it last night, I was inspired and wanted to recreate it, but then decided it was just too unnatural for the inhabitants. This morning I had a bit of an epiphany - blind cave tetra! I think this impactful design would perfectly compliment their muted colouration and provide a natural environment for them (a bioluminescent cave with blind aquatic inhabitants, has to be a biotope... somewhere!). I feel like a community of blind fish in this type of design would be magical. I hope to see you create a larger display along these lines and from your enthusiasm get the impression you want to do another, more refined design.
Ive never wanted to keep an aquarium before finding your videos recently. Im used to just seeing tacky plastic decorations, but I'd love to have something like this!
You say this is your favorite build so far. I'm gonna have to agree, though it's practically impossible to choose between all your groundbreaking scapes over the years. Usually I go for the more densely planted paludarium-style builds, but the intrigue of the backlit glass combined with your talent for videography (which seems to have only grown despite your injury) create a mesmerizingly immersive video. Such an ethereal space in such a small container. . . Great work Tanner!
i really dig how this is a lot less green and lush than many of your builds, but just as pretty and interesting to look at. i love your usual stuff but the change up in aesthetic is definitely cool!
At first, I thought the addition of the tetras was a bit boring. Then you turned the lights on.... The flourescent stripes on the tetras looks insane in the lighting! Fantastic build!

Won;t be able to keep longer finned fish in there though great for a tetra hide away but anything with jagged glass can't or shouldn't really be around fish with long fins as they catch and tear. this would be more a plant aquarium. Actually this would probably be a really go breeder tank for ghost shrimp they'd look awesome in here,
I love how the fish sometimes turn to look down the crystal tunnels, like they're explorers preparing to go into a mysterious cave. Great work as always Tanner!
I agree with you, this is one of my favorite builds that you have done. I've been thinking of scape ideas for a 33 gallon long tank as like a rocky river type setup, and this gives me the perfect idea for how the underwater scape should look. The black lava rock with the glowing gems look would fit it perfect.

Volcanic rock was a perfect choice! This reminds me of rock-hounding in Maui: You can find beautiful gemstones, like peridot, embeded into the basaltic rocks strewn across the beaches of volcanic islands.
This is really interesting. It’s not my aesthetic, but I could see myself trying something more subtle. Black Neons are one of my favorite fish choices!
That is a refreshing new take on how aquariums looked in the 70's, with the neon green gravel and sunken ships, and whatnot. I agree, if they made the lights a little smaller, and more of them would be an improvement.

I used to fantasize about creating glowing crystal gem formations just like this! This was long before LED lights were so easy and available to come by. The dream was lost to time and life and here you are, living it! Your creation may have just given me the inspiration I need to finally begin designing my waterfall/paludarium in a small terrarium.

OMG it's beautiful, the black neon tetras really go well with the rest of the aesthetic and the sand/gravel and the crystals just make it seem mystical

I love Tanner just gingerly adding the fish and shrimp, but going "bombs away" with the snails
My dude. I have always loved glowing stuff and I love fish too. Combining the two has never been something I thought was really possible. But with LEDs and the way things turned out this loom awesome. Another Idea I have is to add in rocks that reacts to ultra violet light. Aka “black light” and then obviously use a black light to illuminate the tank. Also, I hate saying this because I don’t like the fish, but maaaaaaaybe put some glo light fish in there to see what they look like! 🤷♂️ 🫣😂 any who. Great job in the glowing tank. Looks awesome!
Omg, me too!! It is a dream of mine to have a planted millipede tank with UV reactive glass decorations. I collect uranium glass that glows under blacklight, some millipedes also glow under blacklight, and I think it would have such a cool otherworldly look.... Glad to see another UV fan haha!

This is absolutely amazing Tanner. It looks beautiful on its own, but I think this type of fantasy/gemstone vibe combined with your regular naturalistic style could be even more interesting. If I get the chance to make a build like this, I think I would fill the rest up with plants, maybe even some riparian growth coming from the top of the structure so some roots grow down across the caves. I'm thinking black raven zz, dragon's tongue, and maybe some interestingly colored begonia and tradescantia up top and some dark bucephalandra in the bottom to keep the fantasy vibe going. Your work is so inspiring and it's so impressive that you never stop having more ideas and executing them so well, even with one hand!
This cave turned out really cool. I love neon glow in the dark looks. I also enjoyed the naturalistic sounds in this video of you scraping and molding that’s as relaxing 😌

First, this is one of the cooler, more creative builds you've done. I've never really been a fan of more "unnatural" feeling builds, this one definitely defied that. I agree that at least one more light would have been beneficial.
Next, I love the format of this video. It's more calm, a solid mash-up of instructional and relaxing. Every video tops the last and you're so good at what you do.

Looks amazing, a very unique aesthetic. Lamp eye killifish would suit this tank amazingly as their eyes are bright blue.
It’s like perfectly balanced. It’s not too bright. Not too distracting. It’s perfect. The fish are perfect.
This looks amazing! The only thing I don't like about this design is that you have to cut through the foam to replace the lights. They are probably led and should last longer than the scape will be in use, but still just in case something goes wrong I like the option to easily switch things out
Yeah I had the same thought, he probably did it like this since he didn't have both hands fully operational for this video.
Now the best way to do it is to basically make some kind of light boxes that you build the crystals out of. But that isn't always so easy to do with one hand

it's always epic when artists go beyond their comfort zone
I'm obsessed with this build - so much so I plan on making my own version in the future. I also have aspirations to experiment with adding some extra functions.
I'm really into building and playing modular synthesizers. Maybe you've seen them before, think of a giant shelf full of modules with lots of knobs, jacks, faders, and patch cables you connect all the modules with to make sounds and music. Very simplified, you make connections that push voltages around within the synthesizer to make it work. I have an idea to install light reactive resistors. So any time a fish swims by an area with light, their shadows would change how might light is picked up by the resistor which I can then use to send a control voltage trigger or something that affects what the synthesizer does. It could change pitch or duration of a note, or the amount of reverb, or even just control the color of the lights. Depending on how the synthesizer is patched, their movement could be a source of modulation (wiggling a knob) which is what makes the synthesizer really come alive. In a way, it would be like the fish are playing the synthesizer!
It's a big project, and even if those things don't end up working this build would be a perfect ambiance/inspiration to look at while I spend hours playing with the synthesizer. I hope to share it with you someday.

Cave scapes have by far been my favorite. Adding this crystal look just made it so much more magnificent!

Every time I think you can’t exceed your last effort, you knock it out of the park. It’s mysterious and dark yet the glass gives some light. Like a geode built into an aquarium. I really fell in love with this.

I really like the look of this tank, it's visually stunning. I've been in the hobby 40+ years and have to say this is the most original and beautiful aquarium I have seen... a masterpiece. When I first looked at it last night, I was inspired and wanted to recreate it, but then decided it was just too unnatural for the inhabitants. This morning I had a bit of an epiphany - blind cave tetra! I think this impactful design would perfectly compliment their muted colouration and provide a natural environment for them (a bioluminescent cave with blind aquatic inhabitants, has to be a biotope... somewhere!). I feel like a community of blind fish in this type of design would be magical. I hope to see you create a larger display along these lines and from your enthusiasm get the impression you want to do another, more refined design.
Ive never wanted to keep an aquarium before finding your videos recently. Im used to just seeing tacky plastic decorations, but I'd love to have something like this!
You say this is your favorite build so far. I'm gonna have to agree, though it's practically impossible to choose between all your groundbreaking scapes over the years. Usually I go for the more densely planted paludarium-style builds, but the intrigue of the backlit glass combined with your talent for videography (which seems to have only grown despite your injury) create a mesmerizingly immersive video. Such an ethereal space in such a small container. . . Great work Tanner!
