  • Another Problem with My BMW X5 | Suspension Troubles
    I noticed the 2009 BMW X5 Diesel looked a little saggy at the rear end the other day and decided to investigate. Turns out that there was a problem and I describe what I found and spoke with the dealer and also share with you, the cost for repair.
    Apparently these cars have a common failure mode on the suspension of these X5's.

    If you can't work on your car you'll loose your pants on these cars , the suspension fix took me about 50 min , spend some money on a Manual read and teach yourself how to fix problems instead of paying a dealership to do everything. I know that when you don't have time it could be problematic. The boots for the rear shouldn't cost you more than 250 each the oem aren't worth it, check out other brands for anyone else who wants to get this done

    I love my 2014 diesel X5 BMW and so far have had no problems with 40k miles. I've talked to my service manager off the record and he told me that a lot of issues were fixed with the 2014 redesign of the X5 but did say that there have been a lot of problems with X5's prior to this year with 2011 model year being the worst. Thanks for your input on the carriage air bag issues. Great video as always.

    My bag failed at about 105k but since I'm not a fan of getting mouth-f****d by dealerships, I took mine to my local mechanic. Cost me 320.00 for total fix. Completely worth it. I'm capable of doing it myself but for that price, it was an easy choice.

    My x5d isn't bad yet, but the e70s are quite common for going through bags.
    Replacing them is pretty easy too. I ordered a bag online just to keep it as a 'spare' to eliminate downtime :)
    I am lowering the x5 tho, i'll do that sometime this summer. Hopefully before our upcoming BC trip.

    I just replaced both myself about two weeks ago. I paid $274 US dollars each. It’s not difficult to do, it probably took me three hours to do the job but I was taking my time. One thing you must do first is disconnect the air compressor, it’s outside under the passenger seat, there are videos on TH-cam showing how to do it.

Imagine I was doing it myself then get stuck like that . 2011 X5 35d has been good to me for 100k miles. Only a nagging DEF tank sensor that keeps the Check Engine light on whether its full or not and a front strut bearing cap just recently. Passenger inside door pull plastic / rubber material whatever it is decided to more or less melt, arghh. (Nonprofessional fix by wrapping it with kitchen clear food film - it works!) Still the nicest diesel I've ever owned. I love diesels for the power and torque. Super road car.

    Those airbags take 10 minutes a side to change. Don't let the stealerships tell you different. Pop the old air spring with a knife, then jack the car up slightly, disconnect the air line and pull it out. The new one goes straight in the same way.

      Watch for quality with springs! I have a beautiful 95 Lincoln continental, so advanced it had 4 corner standard air suspension. It was standard for two 2 years, then rear only. Lasted till 150K. OEM parts were marked firestone. The parts look very similar to the BMW. I bought a coil kit from Suncore and 2 years later a spring broke on the road, not funny. They were sold with a lifetime warranty but they told me too bad, under new management. I don't trust any aftermarket brand now :(. Yeah, they are cheap, but those Chinese springs aren't safe.

    • @megafon2200

      Yes. It will shut off automatically. It goes in failure mode, it will not restart. Clear codes or disconnect battery and it will run again. If it is unable to raise the vehicle within specific time it will shut off and go into failure mode.

I had 3 major oil leaks I had to replace the water pump, the high-pressure fuel pump I had to replace the transfer case and replace the grill on the front had a crack in it and replace the firewall it also had a crack in it. Every repair was close to or a little over thousand dollars. eventually I had a BMW mechanic do some side work for me which saved a lot of money but the parts were still very expensive. I love BMWs too because they’re very aesthetically pleasing and truly a joy if in good working order, but I don’t recommend buying one unless you buy new with a warranty

I inherited 3 oil leaks upon purchasing the X5, replaced the upper radiator hose and most recently purchased a water pump. However, I STOPPED buying the parts from the import sellers and started buying from AMAZON and my price was cut in half. Plus my brother is my mechanic. I love my cars and I would say have a mechanic that can repair BMW's to save cost. Don't base your decision on what others say or think, that may not be your experience. Live your best LIFE.......

    Before long the compressor will keep airing up and the air bags blow out.

    ¿what was the problem?

    • @ECPP
      @ECPP  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I made follow up videos. This failure was a shock airbag and I did a DIY tutorial on the channel. That then lasted about 2 years and then they blew out again, so I now have coil spring retrofit which I also showed the DIY on the channel.

    bmw x3 and x5 diesels are basically overengineered moneypits. after 100 000 km's everything starts to or fall apart..eg. timing chain, plastic hoses, transfer case, drivetrain shaft, guido bearing, rear struts, ball joints, engine mounts..these parts are first to break

  • @elmerbais9767
    @elmerbais9767 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Yup everything in the bmw has expiration, most likely its a mechanics car if they have time. Lol.. Or if your not doing anything aside from what to worry whats going to break next.. lol.. its like worst car ever. The only nice about them is the design thats it. Fast yeah but are you gonna race everyday.? So overall its a fucked up car.. ive learned my lesson from my 2 bmw that has been well maintain but still breaks. Im not going to waste my time to fix my car every time , theres lots of good things to do in life aside from worrying whats gonna happen next.

      All german cars are piece of shit .
      My S550 was the worst car ever . Ive bought it with 5700 miles on it and ive regred it dearly !
      BMW and BENZ will not get you to from CHicago to Miami without a unforseen stop at the dealership . Yeah this is soooo bad .!
      Never buy a german car without a FACTORY. warranty .
      Be awere , service contract is NOT a warranty. It is often calked warranty yet it is notb. You will pay for it thru your nose....

    I will sell you my 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee with the 5.2 for 2500.00 and it has brand new Bilstein 4600 shocks
    So roughly its a 8 hour job to replace both sides by someone who knows what their doing and with lifts, proper tools, etcc

    • @zxtenn
      @zxtenn 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not at all, I repaired/replaced/upgraded nearly everything since I have had it, 2nd vehicle but it only gets 12 mpg city, VERY reliable and perfect for those Canadian winters, Goodyear Silent armor tires, etcccc
      but I am sure your BMW drives and handles much more like a car than my old Jeep

      Replacing the air shock is hardly a 2 hour job... I've done it many times on rovers, Benz and x5

      ExoticCar PlayPlace there are good cars , but second hand ones are always abused , because its a bmw , and people cannot mentain them , because parts are expensive , great cars when they work , worst cars when they break down :)

    Bmw is a mans car, you have to know a thing or two about cars. You better learn how to do your own repairs, most bmw owners I know do their own repairs.
