      What an interesting take on this you have. Ireland demanded an open border, they got it, but now they see the problems which such a policy can bring. Thus they expect Britain to take back migrants, who arrived in England illegally from France, their fellow EU member, and moved on to Ireland. Funnily enough however, France not only refuses to take back migrants who came to us from their shores, but their navy have actually shepherded said migrants into English waters. These are the facts. Yet according to you, we are being bad neighbours, upsetting the Irish, because we will not be the mugs who allow the Irish, the French, and indeed the EU itself, to play us for fools. They do not accept the principle, as the Irish are now claiming, that migrants are the responsibility of the country they crossed over from. Duh, you don't say. And that bit you wrote about us not gloating, it being "sinful". Indeed, as sinful as the attitude of the Irish and its EU masters when they used the Good Friday agreement as a weapon with which to beat Brexit Britain. Finally, we do not ask for trouble, but what an outrageous suggestion that in order to appease the Irish government and the EU, Britain should play by rules which they themselves ignore. To do so, now that would, in my opinion, be stupid.

    • @here.3070
      @here.3070 หลายเดือนก่อน

      After Brexit, the Irish PM called the UK a 'small nation'. They leapt on the side of the EU and called us bigoted racists. If anything is backfiring, it is on the Irish. If we are unable to send people back to France (The EU) then the same is in effect in reverse - the EU (RoI) cannot send migrants here.
      What will happen now is that the EU will speed up their own copycat plan (very similar to Rwanda).

    • @cthulhurising4860
      @cthulhurising4860 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @christinerussell113, some of that is true, but doesn't get anyone anywhere. Britain & Ireland should be having honest talks trying to figure this out & not just trying to F each other over. There could be a great benefit to both countries if we can get the French to support their EU allies by allowing illegals to be shipped back & managed collectively from there by the EU member countries who let them through in the first place

    • @christinerussell113
      @christinerussell113 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @cthulhurising4860 Agreed. But perhaps the French, who have maintained a consistently non helpful attitude, ( while collecting lots of dosh from us Brits), might be the ones to address first on this issue. You'd think they might at least be willing to help their fellow EU member by taking back their migrants. Until they do, I certainly see no reason why Britain should be expected to oblige the Irish, who, let's face it, played hard ball with us over Brexit. As you said, the EU, with its stupid free movement policy, let thousands through in the first place. While it was Merkel who extended an invitation to the wide world to come on in. And doing so without bothering to consult her so called EU partners,

      @@bobbailey7024 Hey Bob, you think the Irish government gave the UK a huge amount of grief over Brexit because of instructions from their masters in Brussels? Did you never consider that Irish people might want to enjoy the freedom to move around Ireland without the inconvenience of queueing at a border waiting to show their ID or have their car searched by a customs officer, or pay import/export duties when crossing from one side of the road to the other? You've been watching too many far right culture war clown videos.

The boats may never stop, but the UK will be a country that they’ll just be passing through on their way to Dublin. Much like they passed through the whole of Europe to get to the UK. If you believe that you are nieve. The Irish government are just looking for a way to rid themselves of a problem they caused themselves, they are just using the passing of the Uganda bill as an excuse. And our government are only too happy to go along, because it makes it look like they were right to spend that obscene amount of money. Yes they are absconding but they are still in the UK I doubt it’s the immigrants from here that are going to Ireland they are going to Southern Ireland because it’s still in the EU. The government needs to stop the boats in the channel. Our government are jumping on the Irish narrative to make it look like the Uganda bill is working. It’s rubbish.

    There has been freedom of movement of people between Ireland and the UK going back to the days of independence. Such freedom does not arise on Brexit and the preservation of open trading arrangements. Such movement of goods or people is underwritten by the assumption that either or both entities are in conformity with law. Illegal immigrants into the Uk obviously do not comply . The Mogg presentation is I would suggest on thin ice. The ideas surrounding extradition of law breaking people also deserves more than a passing referenmce.

    Israel had a "voluntary departure" scheme for 4,000 migrant deportations with Rwanda between 2014 and 2017. Most were driven straight to the border. Almost all are thought to have left the country almost immediately, with many attempting to return to Europe via people-smuggling routes.
    Rwandan homes that were previously earmarked to house migrants deported from the UK have already been sold to local buyers. the developer has said.
    Some 70% of the 163 affordable homes on the Bwiza Riverside estate have been sold, the developer ADHI-Rwanda said.
    On top of the £220 million Britain has already paid Rwanda, the UK government has agreed to pay an extra £150 million over the next three years, and £120 million pounds once the first 300 asylum seekers have been resettled, the National Audit Office (NAO) said on Friday 1st March 2024. Still not one person has been sent to Rwanda.
