  • That logo in the thumbnail is the logo of an actual restaurant called Mom's Spaghetti that Eminem opened in Detroit. The meme is real.

This reminds me a lot about fire drills, which have been shown to be incredibly effective in case of actual fires. Just knowing that there is a plan and having your body go through it without the stress makes the actual emergency easier

Hard agree. Gem says "You will play at the level that you practice at," which is a variant on the idea of how we fall back to our automatic responses under stress and pressure. Practicing with a backup plan, like having a fire drill, instills an automatic response that can be relied upon under stress and can make the situation end up better.

Encouraging your teammates can help them calm down and focus on the game and even help clutch when it really counts.
Something like a "nice shot!" Can let them get a triple with the rest of their trizooka shots and save an overtime situation.
Overall being positive and keeping the fire burning is what's gonna make you play best and at some point you'll be able to recognise when you'll be able to do so.
And it's important to help your teammates keep that fire burning aswell.
It's helped me clutch a lot of sets and let me do insane plays because of my emotional state and confidence.
And this is only possible with teammates who can help keep the fire burning.
I have noticed that I always do better and play better with players who are a bit more energetic and who do callouts in vc.
The way you carry yourself is energy you spread throughout your team and generally to people around you.
If someone is happy and excited about something it does have a bit of an effect on you. Same thing with negative emotions such as anger.
I remember when I was playing salmon run in a server and a person who was extremely angry and toxic came into gen chat venting their frustrations and such.
They then immediately joined an already shakey vc and shit kinda downhilled from there.
I ended up just leaving the vc because of the negativity the person brought.
    Same goes for positive people.
Their influence on others while it may not be as immediately strong they do affect others in the long term in a good way.
Emotions can spiral in any direction.
We only really recognise it when it spirals negatively and all of your negative experiences build up and weigh in on you over time.
But that's ok. Everyone has baggage of some kind. And it's important to remember the happier things in life.
    And give them attention.
Being in a bad mood can take away from that and can sour the mood of others around you.
I'm not saying it wrong to be in a bad mood.
    No that's just being human.
But if you're in a good mood.
Do help out someone who isn't doing as well.
    They'd really appreciate it.
And may even play better because of it.

As someone practicing to be patient in matches, I do find it helps to keep a mental note and to always slow down after you spawn in. Take a few seconds to get the right information beore mindlessly charging back into battle.

This is exactly what i’ve been struggling with lately. I’ve noticed that my aim is sometimes really bad and realized that it was my arms/hands tensing up with anxiety and making precision much harder, which is also why sniper classes/weapons are pretty much never an option in pvp games for me

Oh shit the perfect video for me!
Wish there were like splatoon therapists at times to talk to about it to bc without venting I feel like I have it significantly worse than most but I find normal therapists don't share the same mindset I do of splatoon so nothing really happens.
Also does gem ever realize that people take his videos as like mental health advice when usally when people make those videos they say how they arnt a professional, dont take it as advice and if your having issues you should seek a therapist but in more general terms.

Had a really really close set that went to game 9. Unfortunately we fumbled some clam throws pretty bad in game 8 and got whomped on barnacle zones. It was the most fun I’ve ever had playing splatoon though. We had some results we were very happy with due to winning very decisively on some map modes and very goofily on others, including a game where we were running a comp we’d only used once in a recent scrim which flipped manta on its head for us and gave us the best game of it we’ve ever had despite both me and our charger walking off the map at the same time during it.

I'm also not a psychologist, but I'm a stage performer with autism, so managing social/performance anxiety has been something I've had to practice managing a lot.
Like Gem said, there are both physical and mental things you can do.
Physical things include, deep breathing (slowly), flexing your core, releasing your shoulders and jaw, exercises (swinging your arms, flexing your hands, stretching), and power poses (stand tall, hands on hips, confident).
Mental things include, self reassurance (it's ok, i'm safe, i'm in control), redirection (focus on the next game, not the loss), and preparation.
All of these things require practice to implement and use when the pressure hits. The more you use these when even a little anxiety creeps in, the more effective they'll be when something big happens.

We're discussing the fight or flight response; deciding whether you should fight something or someone in self defense is an old, nuanced question but you don't have time to ruminate on it when you're being attacked

  • @Koopa126
    @Koopa126 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

To me, I think some players do get nervous when they're in a tournament and they're facing against a champion-like team that's well known in the world such as Starburst, FTWin, Alliance Rogue and Jackpot. If I was in that situation, I would have thoughts that involve deliberately forfeiting the set out of fear in an attempt to avoid humiliation and become mentally prepared for whatever's in the Loser's Bracket. But doing that will result in bad sportsmanship and often result in disqualification to my knowledge.
So the only option is to play the set regardless, do your best and once it's over, look at the battle replays.
