Wayne Pinnock won Jamaica’s fourth medal at the Olympic Games and third silver after placing second in the men’s long jump at Stade de France in Paris.
This latest achievement adds to his silver medal in the World Championships in Budapest, Hungary last year.
Pinnock, who struggled with injuries this season and was second at the JAAA National Championships, in late jump produced 8.36m (-0.2m/s), his best outdoors this season, to secure second behind two-time champion Miltiadis Tentoglou of Greece, who won with 8.48m (0.0m/s) with teenager Mattia Furlani of Italy taking bronze with 8.34m(-1.0m/s).
He joins triple jumper Shanieka Ricketts and 100m sprinter Kishane Thompson with silver medals, while Rajindra Campbell had won bronze in the men’s shot put.
Pinnock, who won the NCAA indoor, joins James Beckford as Olympic Games long jump silver medallists after Beckford was second at the 1996 Games in Atlanta.
He started with 7.84m (-1.1m/s) but shot up to second in the second round and just managed to outdo the Italian who was winning his country’s first men’s long jump medal in 40 years when Alberto Cova won in Los Angeles in1984.

As an American thrower a million years ago in college I always wanted Jamaica to recruit javelin throwers. 20 years later, Jamaica’s strongest athletes are their male throwers! Such an amazing story and champion in discus.

Although Nickisha Pryce has failed to reach back-to-back 400m finals she MUST not lose hope. She has a bright future ahead so she should not let the disappointment in Hungrary & Paris overshadow her dream-she definitely has the talent to be a GLOBAL CHAMPIONSHIP WINNER. Keep the FAITH & God Bless. Hope her coach let her run some 200m it will help her in the 400m-Shaunae Miller-Uibo & Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone did it too.

I am glad you spoke on the motivation and encouragement especially the positivity.
It’s spiritual warfare that’s why we have to lift up ALL athletes in prayer cover them in the blood of Jesus.
We don’t know what is really going in that environment.
I know God bless Moses next Olympics they can’t stop the Caribbean.
I pray that the athletes are not reading the comments because most of them are very very negative and disgusting.

I said it before therr are many field events that jamaica need to push upon the youths. And not just track alone. So many even to show and have the youths perfom in without any bad vibes against each other.

Kishane's gold medal was stolen. I don't understand why track and field is trying so hard to make Noah Lyles the face of track and field. If I was going to make someone the face of track and field in America, it would be Sydney Mclaughlin- Levorne. She has broken her own world record several times. Noah has only broken Michael Johnson's 200 meter record. I doubt very much he is going to break any of Bolt's records.
