      Somehow folks here seems to be mis interpreting Marvricks message. He is not disrespecting the field athlethes. His point is quite true. The sprints are the focus of the Olympics, and also Jamaicas reputation as the sprint capital of the world. He is just asking that we not lose focus on the fact that at present we are not fully up to our standards and need to re group.
      He is correct, who knows of the greatest olympic wrestler who retires after this Olympics, " Lopez of Cuba " he went to six Olympics and won gold in five. How many folks knew this?
      Usain Bolt will be remembered along with brand Jamaica for a very long time.

    • @Dewdrops7560
      @Dewdrops7560 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It's not a swap, it's a track and field championship, not track only... And most importantly it's countries/individuals competing against each other.
      The problem is that Jamaicans tend to count the chickens before they're hatched, that's way too much pressure on the athletes.
      Also they let Americans pull them into a tit for tat competition online and therefore whenever either athletes don't win, it's very disappointing, because they don't have the bragging rights... Let the Americans prove themselves as Jamaica is still the World Record Holder in 100, 200 and 4 x 100m , let them beat those records. Americans can't change history.

How would/should that parent feel ten years later when one child opens their medical practice, while the other opens their first auto repair garage? The real challenge is the management of our track and field programme and that is where some attention must be placed. Only Failure will make you truly appreciate success. Jamaicans have been spoiled rotten past 20 years in sprinting. Entitlement bred in...maybe now they will know winning was not guarantee. Those past JA athletes had to risk it all to reach the mountain of gold.
    JA will be back on top but cherish those moments of success because its not guaranteed every Olympic

    I agree with that assessment. Years from now Stona name will be in the record books yes! but on the broader spectrum, his name won't be the topic of conversation in many circles. What happen in the 100m final certainly will be what people gonna be debating. We are certainly happy a excited that the world see that Jamaica can also produce gold medal field athletes so dem cant count we out but when it comes to track Jamaica name will always be in the conversation including that foto finish decision. So a real talk Maverick.

    It is more good than bad for the track and field results. We have older athletes that did not have much to contribute, and we were always worried about what would happen going forward. We now have a proven and tested male one-hundred-meter runner in Kishane - which we never had.
    We now have a NINETEEN-year-old female sprinter, who looks extremely good for the future, and Lyston is still waiting in the wings. We have demonstrated that, even with the changing of the guards today, we will be able to do better next big games. We might even win gold in the male one hundred and at least a bronze in the female version. Kishane won silver, but Seville is at least 'up there' too with Noah Lyles, the best they have. We exposed future athletes, and they did not do badly. With most of our female fire power diffused before the games started, we were always depending on other events.
    It is unfortunate that Shelly Ann and Shericka robbed some of our girls the experience. This is very selfish and detrimental to team Jamaica. That's the part I am ruffled about.

    Boss man, I must disagree with your analysis. This should not be about comparing the value of a medal based on the associated event, but rather, we should acknowledge and celebrate the achievements of our athletes regardless of the event. Must admit that from a track perspective, there is work to be done as we did not achieve as expected. Our athletes work their butts off, so I am sure they will be ready for the next championship, putting us back on top. Nevertheless, I am an avid fan of your commentary and also look forward to your analysis. Big up!

  • @Jamcan4484

    There should be no comparisons of medal. Every one is significant.... to categorize which medal and event makes no sense vs which makes sense is like disregarding the hard work the athletes put in to accomplish what they achieved. Jamaica will always be a sprint nation and we in no way wanna substitute medals in the field events for the sprints. But this year isn't the greatest for us in the sprints/tracks and the fields step up and we are grateful.... this is not a time to be comparing medals 😢 we want to get even better in the fields and to get back to the place we were in the tracks. That's all....

    I don’t see it as a deferral from sprint just mishaps. I’ve been waiting for this balancing in all areas for Jamaica’s track and field “program. Next is the rise of the middle distances, YES!! The sprints will return. We need a national T&F program JAAA name only changed they’re still hanging on to the “Amateur” moniker. We need a true govt and private sector partnership for T&F progress.

    I hear you but at the end of the day every medal count's as the more events we medal in the more our prestige as a global athletic powerhouse grow's. We're already strong in the sprints but balance and variety is the key. That is what the US has over other nations who send large contingents to every event. Seeing the results we've had in Paris it is time to put more resources into field events as those athletes are beginning to earn their keep. No need to pick one over the other. With competent leadership we can do both. 9:46 9:46

    Hey Maverick - Stop talk down di people dem medal - It's an equal playing field - Olympic dominance in any event is a seasonal thing - Though USA and Jamaica are the 2 most dominant sprint nations from time to time other countries produce athletes that upset us. It's not lack of effort; Jamaica still has one of the best track and field program in the world and its Island wide. It just happen that sometimes the talent is not there so it's good that we are not a one dimensional country.
