At first I thought that you're just going to explain the history of the golden ratio, the importance etc. while playing an annoying background music. However the way you deliver it was so great, plus your voice was pleasant to my ears and even showed us a demonstration. Thank you very much for teaching us this.
i'm glad i found this video! i am now struggling on doing my mid test on product design major about creating a composition using golden ratio. but you explained it very clear and that helped me a lot! thanks a bunch!
I am a business student n an emerging artist. I just heard this term “golden ratio” n was curious to know about it. Thanks Got it just opened ur video n learnt all the concept in just 30 minutes. Ur way of teaching z superb n made it easy. Thanks a lot. Keep it up!!!
Thank you so much for this video. It was so useful. I have struggled with this concept for a while now, and it just looked like someone drew a random graph that was somehow "pleasing" to everyone😂😂😂 But, you explained it so well, and broke it down so that it was easy for beginners to understand. I am happy I watched this.
Very well explained and even this dummy understood all of it. I have looked into the golden ratio myself before, how a 'perfect' human face works with it and how it is found very often in nature. There must be a reason as to why it is so pleasing to our eyes. Matmatics, science and physics are amazing. I wish I new that when I was a school.
Finally, someone created a video that thoroughly explains the golden ratio in a way that most people can probably understand. This is fairly straightforward video with good visuals, which I would like to use for teaching my students. It would be great if you could refine this and make a shorter version for students and mention that it’s also known by other names such as the golden mean. I would like to see more close-up photos of the golden ratio in nature with arrows pointing out the patterns in flowers and such. Slowing it down for students would make a very good video great. Thanks for this wonderful video.
Hi, thanks for the feedback. I'm glad you found this video useful. If you want custom made content of that level of detail, I'd suggest putting together resources for your course yourself.
I find the golden rectangle and Fibonacci series absolutely fascinating. The fact that it appears everywhere in nature, and is also pleasing to the human eye, proves to me that there is intelligent design in the universe and that no “big bang” could produce such beautiful order. Explosions do not produce order; they produce chaos.
An alternative point of view: There is so much chaos, that recurring patterns are inevitable, and the human desire to find meaning in the meaningless causes us to latch onto unrelated phenomenon.
TipTut Hardly. This pattern is so precise, and so universal, that it goes way beyond coincidence. Albert Einstein once said that the one incomprehensible thing about the universe was that it was comprehensible.
@N S Brilliant comment! Thank you! In the Bible, the number 4 signifies the earth (physical world, not in terms of “worldliness”). The four corners of the earth, the 4 compass points, the 4 winds of heaven etc etc. This is probably why so much of life is built around this number. 4 chambers of the heart, too! I have done a study on the Tetragrammaton and have used this in arguments with JWs on the doorstep as to why they should not say “Jehovah” which is a made-up word coming from a complete lack of understanding of how the Hebrew works, and the vowel points. You are so right about the human body being an engineering marvel! “I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Marvellous are Your works, and that my soul knows very well” (Ps 139:14). It is fascinating that in the New Testament, Paul says, “For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them” (Eph. 22:10) - the Greek translated “workmanship” can also be translated “poem” or “masterpiece” which is interesting in view of what you say. I am fascinated by the evidence of Information in creation - information comes from an intelligent source and could not have evolved by chance - DNA is the most efficient and most compact information storage system in the universe! This has to be of divine origin and is the most staggering thing. I have always been hopeless at maths but can grasp the awesomeness and purity of numbers and their universality, and recognise that God the Creator is the ultimate Mathematician! Albert Einstein once said that the one incomprehensible thing about the universe is that it is comprehensible! May God bless you.

Hi, thankyou! The sketch isn't based on the golden ratio, I just drew it then applied golden ratio to it. Once you understand golden ratio however, you can sketch with it in mind.

My dude, you threw up random numbers and didnt explain it. ALSO everything NATURAL follows it. Numbers arent NATURAL, SHUT THE HELL UP AND PAY ATTENTION IDIOT.
This is excellent if you subscribe to the idea that using golden ratios is aesthetically pleasing. Case studies have shown this not to be the case, and a mathematician at Stanford explained people show no more preference to these than any other ratio. If you try the logo again without using these circles (just use regularly sized circles) then run a poll i bet neither will be a clear winner.
Great video! I just downloaded illustrator and can't seem to move the circles as percisely as you did. Is there a setting I can change to be more percise as you?

Because we're making a spiral and the quickest easy to make a perfect curve from opposite corners of a square is to make a circle thats twice its size and line up the points.
I’m not sure if the golden ratio is used to design or maybe just many designs fit to it in the same way that nature does. I mean I could just draw a curved line in illustrator and of course if I put a circle next to it the chances are that the curve will align to the circle. However, it’s a good idea to practice using this theory if you don’t have much experience just so that you can train your eye to what looks pleasing etc
