    There’s a Viking area in London, in Putney. I went there once and it’s very interesting. Also, Lyon in France has beautiful Roman ruins. I went to Bulgaria and the monastery is somewhere you will love,

    Thanks for answering my questions. Old Salem in Winston-Salem is a place I enjoy quite a bit. And Krispy Kreme of course! That's really cool that your family has been there so long. I recently read a history of Sicily by John Julius Norwich. It was really great. My first time reading something by him. Sicily is on my bucket list of places to go.

    • @jenniferbrooks
      @jenniferbrooks  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, Old Salem is fantastic, especially near Christmas! I haven't read his book on Sicily but it's on my list--Sicily should be on my bucket list too!

    You’re storming past 1000 subscribers Jennifer and well deserved. Loved hearing your answers and thank you for answering my question. I was lucky enough to spend five or six weeks in Egypt and Israel about twenty five years ago and they are both so fascinating in very different ways but I know you’d love them!

    It's funny! Interview with the Vampire is one of my favourite books too. It was the book that got me into reading and I haven't stopped ever since. The whole Vampire Chronicles trilogy is fantastic!

      Yes! Me too! It's the first time I really remember being obsessed with an adult book.

    Sayid from Lost was my favorite & then Sun. I re-read Interview with a Vampire last year & still really enjoyed it. So interesting about the languages. When I was 17 my Quaker group volunteered 2 summers in a row for Habitat for Humanity in Mars Hill, NC. I love the mountains. I love studying my family's genealogy. Great video!

    Thanks for answering my question. I think your travelogues are pretty cool. I can relate to getting emotional visiting certain historic places. I hope you get to make videos of all your ideas. I’m happy your channel is growing though I got to confess, I like it when it’s just a few of us.

    Girls Like Us!
    I still have my mom's Carole King and Carly Simon albums. Loved that book, though I have a soft spot for James Taylor because of my dad. Taylor was pretty messed up, though so was John Lennon and I can't get enough of him.

    • @jenniferbrooks
      @jenniferbrooks  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That’s true (though I’m not big on Lennon or the Beatles either, guess their vibe is a little slow to me). I can’t believe I’ve finally talked to someone else who read Girls Like Us 😂

    I’ve really enjoyed your Q&A videos. Your viewers asked great questions, and you gave fantastic answers to those questions. Istanbul is a great bucket list city, and you really sold York to me. Watching your videos often makes me wish I was more intelligent, but your admitted love of Hallmark movies (I see you loved Love in Iceland as much as I did lol) proves you to be a true woman of the people. I hope you’re able to travel again soon! Fellow only child who got her love of reading from her mother here 🙌🏻

      LOL, Love in Iceland is easily my favorite! I'll watch it anytime it's on! It's finally the real season for Hallmark movies (yes, I am already watching Christmas movies, I can't be stopped, lol)!

    Now I'm really motivated to get back to Latin and refresh my knowledge of the language! Trier is a beautiful place, I visited it once with my Latin class at school and even though I didn't really appreciate it back then I now see just how incredible the sites and buildings that they have are.

    • @jenniferbrooks
      @jenniferbrooks  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, I really must get to Trier one day! I'm currently watching a German show called Barbarians and the Roman soldiers are actually speaking Latin. It's crazy to hear it spoken aloud! We didn't do much of that in class.

    I finished Romantic Outlaws and it was phenomenal. It was so cleverly written in alternate voices and timelines. Took a while to get through but it was so interesting. I’m a little bit Mary Shelley obsessed now and about to watch the “Mary Shelley” movie.

    • @jenniferbrooks

      @hayleyc5594 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The movie was excellent and as you said well cast. Elle Fanning did a marvellous job and I liked the actor Douglas Booth that played Percy Shelley so much that I have ordered the BBC adaptation of Great Expectations which has him in it. I’m reading Great Expectations for the first time and getting on much better with it then A Tale Of Two Cities.

    I'd be interested in a Dante read-a-long :-)
    Was wondering if The Lives of the Artists are a very bad place to start if you know very little about Renaissance art? If not, would you say the Oxford Classics edition is the way to go, with their introductions and notes?

    • @jenniferbrooks
      @jenniferbrooks  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think you could start there but I would suggest looking up the art pieces alongside it--sometimes that helps me understand the technical stuff. Apparently, the Oxford Classics version is the way to go. It's complete and unfortunately, the Penguin edition only has part of Vasari's Lives.

    There is so much to love about this video! I will have to get a copy of Girls Like Us. I don;t like James Taylor and never did, so it won't sour him anymore for me. Besides, the book sounds really interesting.
    Yes, to C. Moreland being the target audience for Wuthering Heights! I would be right there with her, dissecting the whole thing! I adore that book. I need to put together a C. Moreland would love this book list and just start reading. I think we probably have very similar taste...which may be why Northanger Abbey is a personal favorite of mine.

      I’m glad to know I’m not the only one who doesn’t care for James Taylor! And yes, we do! I’m thinking for the new year, I want to read all of the books mentioned in Northanger Abbey. I love gothic lit!

    I remember the York Cathedral! I lost my purse there. Now I really want to go to Revenna. I would love any read along you do! I love Carly Simon! I have to put Girls Like Us. I do love James Taylor but I do know about about how bad James was. I have separated the man from the music. Nags Head is where I want to retire. We have gone frequently. Gratias tibi ago for the answering my Latin question! (I wanted to put that whole sentence in Latin but my brain isn't functioning in Latin today!).
