This is a fully restored 1957 23 Window VW Bus for sale. Renowned VW Bus restorer Jeff Gagnon of Vintage VW restored this bus over a 5 year period. The bus underwent a complete rotisserie restoration with all suspension parts removed and the body was stripped down to a bare shell. All parts were blasted and restored to like new condition. Jeff has restored several buses for me (John Snell from Sunset Classics) and his work is first class.

OMG, flashback to the early-1970s when my hippie girlfriend owned one of these 23 window beauties that we made love in numerous times during our many adventures. She's been dead since 2010 and she'd be turning 70 in December of this year (2018), and she'd be blown away to hear what some of these restored babies are going for, some over $200,000.

No armrests on driver and passenger doors but armrests elsewhere.
What a beauty you have there. That's a ton of work too. I'd have thought by now someone would have reproduced all the sheet metal necessary to build a new one from the bottom up. I'd love to own a period correct reproduction with a more powerful motor, brakes and air conditioning. These astonishingly restored originals are beyond the reach of most folks plus they can be a real pain to drive especially in the mountains. I imagine most of these are trailer queens which it a shame.

A year before this was offered this seller offered a 1961 23 window bus in the same color saying it would be the only one he would sell in the next 15-20 years...
I don't remember stating I wouldn't have another in 15-20 years and I can't see myself even stating that as 100% predictable, but it was a fact that the '61 I owned was the only restored 23 window I'd ever sold in all my life up to that point. Even today after being in Business 13.5 years specializing in VW Buses I've just sold two restored 23 Windows. The owner of this '57 asked me to consign it for him and it was a welcome surprise. There is no lie to expose. I haven't sold another restored 23 since this 2015 listing and next week is 2021. They are very rare and the opportunity to buy one does not come around often so I hope that point wasn't lost. There are getting to be quite a few fakes out there though so be careful!

Ever drive one of these busses in a strong cross wind? They blow around like a kite. Kind of unnerving to be honest. They are just not a very heavy vehical, and a lot of surface area to catch the wind.

So what did it sale for?

Not quite that much but over $150k indeed. I also sold a matching ‘57 Beetle sunroof with it adding $20k to the final price.
