- Though sketched in 1947 by the Dutch Volkswagen importer Ben Pon, the first production of the VW Transporter didn't start until 1950, with only two models available: the Commercial and the Kombi. In May that year, the Microbus was added to the production line, joined by the Deluxe Microbus in 1951.
The Deluxe Microbus (or the Samba in Europe) had initially 23 windows all around and was fairly popular in the Alps. Hotels and shuttle services used them so their passengers could watch the beautiful scenery from all angles.
In 1964, however, the Deluxe Microbus lost its two rear corner windows to make place for a wider rear window, and was left with just 21 windows.
The specifications of a 1966 Deluxe:
Engine: 1493cc, 44 PS (DIN) at 4000 rpm
Weight: 1150 kg / 2535 lb
Top speed: 105 km/u / 65 mph
Fuel consumption: 9.7l/100km / 23 mpg

Notice the Generator light is on when driving. This would drive me nuts! I had one that would glow and had an oil light that would flicker on. Bought a used motor in Oregon had it on the floor in the back when I drove it back to Georgia. Never needed it and the damn light flickered when engine warmed up the whole way! Gotta Love em

Je volkswagen bus ziet er heel mooi uit. En het is bijzonder dat je er een hebt die in hele goede staat is. Het blijft toch wel het meest iconische en fantastische voertuig ooit gemaakt. Ik hoop dat deze busjes 50 jaar later nog rondrijden want we mogen ze nooit vergeten. Jammer dat ze zo onbetaalbaar worden. Ik heb de video geliked en geabonneerd op je kanaal

but it was OK to continue them in Brazil for another 20+ years right ??
I think they were mainly removed because 64 was the first year of the large tailgate and there is no space for those corner windows.
Brazil kept the small older style tailgate which is why they retained the corner windows.

JustDrive ik heb reeds 20 jaar een 62 ,23 raampjes samba bus met een westfalia kampeeraanhangwagentje ook uit 62...reeds jaren denk ik eraan ook eens zo n filmpje op te nemen en te delen maar is er nog niet van gekomen,is nog meer werk aan dan je zou denken

I have two of these from my uncle and i converted one of them to a trailer for my tracktor by cutting it half and the other is a chicken coop

I wanted to have beetle or vw bus or even karmann now i think i buy trabant or zastava 1300 beacuse theres very high price in Poland for vw bus or beetle and not talking about karmann and mostly bus and karmann are some too high price junk beacuse they are rusty as hell and they have no engine mostly :p

Sorry but I have to tell you it is kph 😂 it is not a fast car by any means, but it should go quicker than tested. There were some little problems preventing the engine from running at full power, but even at those speeds, it's a joy to drive! 😃 thanks for watching!

Most safari windscreens are put on as an aftermarket part, I'm glad this owner kept it original
