    The only way I would ever fly frontier is if:
    1. All the airlines have gone out of bussiness.
    2. All the cars, buses and trains are non-operational in the entire earth.
    3. I cannot walk anymore.
    4. Free.
    If all those things happen, I will fly frontier.

    1. Always, ALWAYS check in the SECOND that the check in opens. The last to check in is gonna be the first one booted.
    2. Don’t fly Frontier unless you’re ok with delays. If you need to get to your destination on time, pay more with another airline.
    3. If you don’t care about delays, you can potentially make money by flying with them. A friend took a flight to Orlando for $38 and on the return trip, they asked for volunteers to come off. He took the offer for a $1k voucher and flew back home a few hours later than scheduled. He booked a bunch of weekend flights off that voucher.

    Frontier is the worst! I volunteered to stay in Vegas for a later flight on Southwest and got $1k in vouchers on Sunday. I'm surprised they were not willing to pay for your hotel and food since THEY kicked you off and they were only giving you enough money to purchase new tickets on Southwest! That's extremely poor customer service in my opinion.

  • @Adiscretefirm

    If a movie theater sold more tickets than they had seats people would riot, if a restaurant made people pre-pay and then told some customers they wouldn't get food until tomorrow people would fight the staff and loot the store. If you paid a lawyer to defend you on your various assault and vandalism charges from the theater and restaurant episodes and they told you they had another defendant so you were on your own for trial, but they would handle the appeal they would be disbarred. Why are airlines allowed to fraudulently sell tickets they know they cannot honor?
    If I had 76K followers on YT I would be tweeting to Frontier and live streaming from the terminal telling everyone to avoid Frontier in Vegas.

    My nightmare was in LV too. Me and my 12 yr old grandson were supposed to leave at 1:00 pm. At 11 am, after I had already checked my luggage, I get a text telling me the flight is delayed, so we’ll miss our connection in Denver. Frontier’s solution was for us to spend 18 years in the airport and leave at 6 am. The line at the ticket counter was 55 people long and they only had two people working, so by the time I got through the line, our luggage was already gone to Denver without us. I had to pay $600 to Delta to get us home. NEVER AGAIN!

  • @tlgraber
    @tlgraber 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I think this is mostly on you! Overbooking is done all the time by all airlines, except for JetBlue. We all benefit from overbooking because it lowers prices across the board. They overbook because they know that not everyone booked will show up for the flight. By selling more tickets than available seats, the airlines can sell them cheaper overall. Every once in a while more people show up than they're expecting. They actually have data on every flight about this. Some flights are not overbooked because they know that everyone booked is likely to show up. Likewise, some are way overbooked because history tells them that the no show number is likely to be high.
    It sounds like Frontier treated you right with compensation. And even by making your own way home, you got home 18 hours later and pocketed several hundred dollars.
    Travel doesn't always go as planned. This is one example. I have flown all over the world on many different airlines. If I would write off an airline every time something didn't click perfectly, my choices would be very limited!

    • @ProudMoney
      @ProudMoney  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Do we really all benefit from overbooking by getting lower prices? Is there any data to back that up. After paying for my tickets to get home, i did not make any money at all because part of the compensation was the money i had already paid to Frontier and the rest went to Southwest.

    • @tlgraber
      @tlgraber 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ProudMoney Go find an article on the economics of overbooking. It indeed benefits us overall, although we do tend to get upset when we are involuntarily denied boarding!

  • @JeffCD77
    @JeffCD77 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I'm sorry, but I've got to put this one on you. Overbooking is standard practice and one way to avoid it (or significantly increase your chances of not being bumped) is to check-in as soon as check-in opens, generally 24 hours prior to the flight. First come first served, unfortunately. And, I know you're aware of this. Sometimes life gets in the way. But, as much as it sucks, Frontier really didn't do anything out of the ordinary and they did compensate you decently.

    • @ProudMoney
      @ProudMoney  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I am surprised at the number of people that think overbooking is ok and that not racing to check in before others means you deserve the poor treatment.

    • @JeffCD77
      @JeffCD77 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ProudMoney I never said I thought it was OK, I simply stated that this is how the airlines do it. You yourself said that you probably should have checked in sooner. If it didn't happen to you it would have been someone else. This time it unfortunately happened to you and I'm sorry that it did. My family and I (wife and child) were forced to stay in Hawaii a couple of years ago because of delay issues, etc. and we were forced to shell out hundreds of dollars for a hotel, transportation and food. The airline reimbursed a portion of it weeks later but only because I asked. It's just how travel has become these days.

  • @mrcha0s

    At the end of the day if you checked in early, that would have just meant someone else would have been bumped. So either way it's all on the airlines for overselling tickets. Yeah maybe you personally could have avoided the situation by checking in early, but then the problem would still occur for someone else. So the fault is all on the airlines.

    I don’t think it’s your fault. I’ve always had a great experience with frontier but I never booked them unless they have at least 1 flight a day for my itinerary. This could happen with any airline but at least if it happened with Delta American or United they have agreements with each other and you would get home faster but with Frontier, Southwest and Spirit you’re kind of screwed. Chase sapphire preferred offers $500 a day trip delay but I’m not sure if it would cover this since you got the check. I had a trip delay claim (for a different reason) recently with Allianz travel insurance and they only cover $200/day for trip delay. When I made the claim they specifically asked if I had received any other reimbursement.

    Second strike was asking for a Coke. Lady told me how much it would be and I stated that our seats included a drink. She said nearly with a smile on her face that they don't do that anymore and then moved on to the next person.
    All in all, seven strikes on our round trip so ****** them!! I wrote the CEO and literally will never fly them again. Such a shame as they were my favorite airline two decades ago.

    Definitely not wrong. Airlines should not be able to overbook flights like that. And then not informing you about it when u got the boarding pass so you wouldn’t check your bags! Ticket agent probably knew and didn’t want to deal w a disgruntled passenger and sent you to deal w gate agents. And yes great that they compensate x3 but the loss of time and inconvenience overshadows. I feel bad for people that don’t have credit cards or extra money to book a flight w a different airline when this happens.

    Years back I was on a flight via AA from LGA with connections in BOS and DTW with a destination of AZO. ( rough already.) At BOS they missed the connection and the result was 10 hrs as a stand-by. Probably got issued 5-6 tickets in that time only to be told I couldn't get on the plane. The last 2 gates, the agent said to run over to a gate about 75 ft away and the agent at the second gate was the guy who put me on standby at the start. Agitated, he said "You should've been here 10 mins ago, there are no seats." All the patience drained out of me. I'm not proud, but I lost my temper saying how the ticket has been printed less than 30 seconds ago HOW could I get there sooner? Something, something "I'm never flying this airline again." Idk what happened but suddenly a seat was available. After that I took note that every single flight I'd ever had with AA was delayed. I have never flown AA again, they are probably better now, but I just can't.
    Your story would likely make me never fly Frontier again. Should you have checked in, probably but they sold a product twice. Also, I’m also on the side of Amex on this one…especially at the Las Vegas centurion. That lounge gets ridiculously busy. Friends don't let friends fly Frontier, Southwest (who did help you), Spirit and Allegiant. That said...that situation you encountered is common and common especially in LAS. You are more than justified to feel the way you did. Should you shoulder some of the blame, I don't think so. Sure you can check in on your phone and do so 24 hours out, maybe you should have, but you checked in before check in closed, so you were well within your right there. The counter should have let you know so that you had some advance knowledge, but communication on oversold flights isn't all that great.
    I was on a ORD-LAS flight that canceled due to LA Center being down. The next flight I could get on was only 6 hours away, so I slept at ORD and like you, only got 15 or so minutes of sleep. I will always go to a hotel if that is an option.
    Nonstop is great, but if they only operated every couple of days a layover, especially with a lounge, will give you a bit more on the options should something happen with your originally booked flight.

    I believe that airlines like Frontier and Spirit, are the reason they developed terms like "flightmare". My trip to Denver caused more than discontentment. I booked a flight for Thursday Oct. 6 at 2pm. Over the next month before my trip, the departure times changed at least 5 times. I had to scramble to reschedule my dialysis treatment. The flight left at 5:45 am, which left me no time to grab breakfast and then on the plane, all they had to offer was Brownie M& M's and coffee. I feel bad for the people who may have been diabetic; having to endure a 4 hour flight without something to eat. Remember this flight left at 5:,45. No restaurants are open and even if I had brought food from home, security doesn't allow you to bring it through. I realize that these are ultra low cost carriers but really? You can't offer muffins or breakfast sandwiches? The seats were cramped. If you reclined, you were literally in the lap of the person behind you. The flight attendants were friendly and tried to make the most of what they knew was a bad situation. But I will not fly them again. Another issue with me, was the fact that you can only book , confirm and check in online. I grew up in the 70's, many people of my generation and the generations before, did not have smartphones and technological devices. Learning to use these things and to master the internet, is confusing, if not impossible. Technology has it's place, but make allowances for people who don't have access to the internet or have trouble using it. There was a time when you went to a travel agent or showed up at the airport ticket counter to get a reservation. Is that too much to ask? By the time I finally got on the plane, my stress level was super high. I'm going back to Southwest, Delta or United. I may have to spend more but at least I won't have the aggravation . I wish the "old" Frontier could come back.

  • @LiaDavis-el5uy

    I think airlines should stop overselling seats! I also think the Frontier agent was very condescending and off her rocker to blame things on you! But to be fair, this is the way many corporations across many industries treat their customers these days. You were taking a red eye flight, so the last one of the day. Was there a warning that they oversold seats and would have to leave some passengers at the airport? I doubt it. But if there was, then how are you supposed to book another flight? Typically a red eye is almost empty and it's one of the best bets for actually getting flown to where they agree to fly you. The other best bet is that flight around 4:45 to 5:30 am. So it's likely they oversold flights during the most popular times, so not likely you would have gotten an earlier flight. Also they expect you to have a crystal ball or be a mind reader to know that no one wants to give up their seat for compensation! I mean typically you will see some seniors or a young family on a tight budget very happy to get another flight for a bit of delay. But there is no guarantee. Also this happened to me on United once. They offered a substantial amount to passengers willing to give up their seats. And a family of 5 and some seniors were very happy. But still not enough room. So we were driven to a hotel by a shuttle, a very nice hotel actually, and compensated with an extra ticket. We were also given food vouchers. We were taken back to the hotel first thing of the morning and got a flight out. Not one United employee blamed us! They were very courteous, and in fact brought out toys for the children and snacks for everyone while we are waiting at the gate to determine who flys. So if anything you are guilty of choosing a horrible airline. I flew spirit once, last time ever lesson learned! Sure it was a budget ticket, but by the time all the extra fees were added on, it was only 50 less than United. They were horrible! Left me stranded at an airport without any compensation and no flight out for 3 days!

  • @danielleboeuf8219

    Sorry, Adam, but you should know better. I fly Spirit a lot, and they're much the same setup (they're merging with Frontier in 2022, in fact). I sit on top of Spirit from the moment I buy the tickets to the moment I'm on the plane. I check in early, I get there early, I sit for hours in an airport, all to try and make sure I get out on time. I'd fly someone else, but no one else has non-stops between the two airports I want to use. With all of that, I've had Spirit outright cancel one flight and delay two others for several hours. This out of several dozen flights, mind you, so a pretty good track record overall.
    They've taken decent care of me these times, but it's still frustrating. While Frontier, in your case, should have taken better care of you, a la hotel vouchers on top of your recompense, I fear I agree that you should have been more proactive in checking in and following their unofficial and unwritten rules. Not that that's fair, but in modern air travel it's very much buyer beware.
