    ----------------------------------------------
What’s the deal with Frontier Airlines? It seems the only thing I’ve been hearing about them lately is how bad they are, and to be honest, it doesn’t make any sense to me.
In order to find out what all the fuss is about, I decided to do another Frontier Airlines review. It has been a few years since my last one, so I went into this with an open mind (and a whole lot of wishful thinking).
This is a full review of Frontier Airlines flight number 552 from San Diego to Denver in February of 2021. The aircraft operating this route today was N211FR, an Airbus A320 built just over 10 years ago.
I had seat number 4A for this two and a half hour flight, and…guess what? It wasn’t that bad.

The flight itself isn't that bad. The problem is that if a flight gets delayed or cancelled, they will not rebook you onto other airlines (like the big 3) and they typically don't have another flight going to your destination until 2 days later (unlike Southwest who has multiple flights a day to each destination). Their customer service is also impossible to contact in person unless you are in Denver, since they only have part-time staff at every other airport, so you're stuck calling for customer service.

I totally agree!! I'd avoid avoid avoid Frontier! If they cancel your flight, then you still have the remaining leg thats not cancelled (and will cost YOU $90 to cancel it!). And there's no alternative to the flight you need since they are too small to offer one. No customer service. And, they dont give your money back, but instead give a credit to be used over the next 3 months. Oh boy. I was screwed by Frontier this way, and went to my credit card company to dispute the charge and thus got a full refund. I suggest to AVOID AVOID AVOID Frontier!

My wife had a bag that was purchased specifically because it was an FAA approved carry on size, yet when we were at the Chicago airport they said it didn't fit (by about 1/4 inch) and so they charged us $99 fee. This was the same bag that we flew to Chicago with out an issue. When we got back home, we cancelled our Discount Den subscription and have not flown with Frontier since. We've flown many times with that bag and never ever had an issue except with Frontier. It was cruel just a money grab, IMO.

@@usconceptschannel Oh for sure, I did say that it didn't fit Frontier's sizer, did I not! We bought an FAA approved official bag that failed so-called official Frontier sizing. We weren't gaming the system, we were using a bag that was supposed to be FAA approved, but apparently Frontier says it wasn't by 1/4 inch. Who to believe, the bag manufacturer, Frontier sizer, or you went straight to blaming us for somehow gaming the system as if we premeditated it? Got it. Anyway, for them not giving into the 1/4 inch over, we paid the $99 fine and they lost a customer over that official 1/4 inch. They could have given in but they'd rather lose a customer which they did.

I've flown Frontier a couple times for some east coast flights. The pricing isnt so great once you add in bag fees or choosing seats. Also you have to get lucky with a flight to a city you want to go to AND avoiding connections which have wild layover times, many of them rolling into the next day. Why would anyone inconvenience themselves to that extent to save MAYBE $50-100 overall? The seats in economy are thin, don't recline and are hard as a rock. BUT if you can find a set up with a non-stop flight and just a carry on, you may be able to save a bit.

I would take a Greyhound Bus before I would fly Frontier again. What happened? Get this one.
July 12th of 2021 I flew Frontier from Indianapolis to Denver and then to Seattle Tacoma. Coming into SeaTac it was announced that we were coming in 30 minutes early. Sounds great, doesn't it? The crew then went on to tell us that our bags would be at Carousel #1. All seemed great but when we got to Carousel #1 the bags were still there from the previous flight. An IceLandic Air flight. so it seemed easy that we would just have to wait our turn at the carousel. Right? wrong!
Frontier is what is called a "Ghost Airline" at Seatac meaning that they only staff the customer service when a flight is taking off or coming in. They did not want to wait the 30 minutes for the baggage carousel so they simply took our bags off the plane and put them into the Unclaimed Baggage office and then went home without telling anyone.
There was about 6 people they did this to. Apparently the others had connecting flights or had carried their bags aboard. But there was nobody to even look for us. We asked the airline next door "Spirit" who could of course not help us but did look up Frontiers next flight which was at 11pm and suggested we come back around 9 to find someone from Frontier who could help us. But it was only about 6pm so we were supposed to wait 4 or 5 hours?
Finally we found the one frontier airline employee who was still on the airport and had a key who was able to unlock the office and get our bags. The whole thing took close to 2 hours and I missed my ride and had to get another shuttle to my hotel.
Never again will I fly frontier and as soon as I post this rant I am going online to cancel my Frontier airlines credit card. Frontier has nice planes they can seel them to someone who can actually run an airline. because I will take a bus before I will get on a Frintier airplane agin.
So there is my reason among others. I am sure there are other people feeling the same way.

When it comes to value for the money - can’t beat Frontier, Spirit and Allegiant. Yes, I can pay 5-10 times more for an economy Delta ticket and get free peanuts. But according to SeatGuru, Frontier seats and legroom is the same as Delta,s economy and half an inch better than American economy class. The main problem with the ULCCs is their customer service in case of delays and cancellations. Fortunately, I have flown Frontier many times and only one had the cancellation issue out of Cincinnati (I’m based in Write-Patts OH and live in FL). But then I was able to jump on Allegiant from the gate next door and was only 40 minutes late. Still, worked out cheaper than buying a ticket on Delta or United or American. Finally, Frontier is the most fuel-efficient airline in the US, and, probably, the World. They have the newest airplanes of all US airlines. Worth paying $50 for a one-way ticket and packing light!

After being stuck at DEN for 15 1/2 hours after they delayed, and delayed, and delayed, and then very quietly cancelled the flight. Then stuck for over 3 hours in the customer service line, and getting "Your gate has changed" text messages for hours after the email came in about the flight being cancelled. Then customer service gave no compensation for the cancellation, no food voucher, no hotel voucher, and barely got booked on the flight back to Dallas the next morning. Ended up having to take a nap on the floor of Denver airport. Lost an entire days wages because of the delay/cancellation, and their attitude was basically "oh well". Then to top it all off they lost my luggage and had no clue where it was for three days. And still no apologies and no refunds or any other compensation.
Under those circumstances it will be a cold day in Hades before they see another dime of my money.
I can see now why Frontier has an "F" rating with the Denver Better Business Bureau.

Waited “hours” to finally get through to someone. Reason for cancellation was “mechanical”… this was three days out from the flight, by the way. Funny how they couldn’t get a different plane or fix the problem. Did not offer us a different flight. Would not help with rental car or hotel. Still hoping to see our reimbursement come through. They would have charged me a cancellation fee if I didn’t catch it. Remember, they cancelled the flight not me but they were going to charge me the cancellation fee. Horrible, rude customer service. Frontier used to be a much better domestic airline prior to being bought and later sold by Republic and becoming an ULCC. Once Republic took over, everything changed - including the size of the planes on my once regular route between AUS-LAX. Because they don't interline with other carriers, if plans change (e.g., canceled/delayed flight) you're forced to go with whatever they offer in the way of alternate arrangements. Even the flight attendants I know who were based out of DEN and used to work for Frontier have all left and moved on to United. By today's standards, Frontier might be considered one step above (or below depending on who you talk to) Spirit. As always, thanks so much for sharing...

I flew in 2018. Flights from FAT-DEN-CLT were good. Seats weren’t comfortable, looked and felt like a stadium seat. Going home, early morning departure out of CLT and I got a “your flight to DEN is cancelled” email in the middle of the night. Didn’t even say good luck. Called Delta last minute and paid $600 to get to DEN since I still had a Frontier connection to FAT to get home. I got a $400 refund from Frontier so that covered some of the expense. Frontier was way cheaper on short notice so I chose them and other than the cancelation, it was fine for the price. I’d still give them another chance. Experienced a situation almost as bad with United a few days ago and they charge a lot more. Airline travel is not what it used to be but when you consider that it’s way cheaper than it was 30 years ago, adjusting for inflation, I guess as long as they get you there in one piece, it’s cheaper than driving and way faster.

I love Frontier for what it is. A low cost carrier with few routes. Tip #1: Only book a direct flight. Tip #2: Pay very close attention to how many flights they make to your destination and on which days. I did about 28 segments with them in 2019 and the only concession I made was to have a backup Southwest ticket for my return flight as insurance against cancellation. Since Southwest lets you refund your ticket for future flights, I just kept rolling my backup flight over to be insurance on my next trip. My 500 mile flights were typically only $30 each way and once I got Elite 20K status, seat selection and overhead carryon became free. The pandemic killed my route though, so now I am stuck with a 7 hour drive or Southwest. Being able to fly every 3 weeks round trip for $60 was huge for me. Parking at the airport and an Uber at the destination were more costly expenses.

I might have if it wasn't for the fact that we were a party of five traveling and had to spend 4 times as much because it was a last minute holiday flight, in order for us to return home that day. I worked for Frontier in Denver in the early 2000’s when it wasn’t an ultra low cost carrier had leg room and pretty much operated like a normal airline and was comparable to JetBlue with TVs in the seat backs . They even had a few 737s at that time and only had those a319s and even a couple of a318s. Horizon operated their express flights with CRJs ant the end of A concourse in DEN. It’s been sold and bought a few times since . I will say that I absolutely LOVED working there while I was in college/fight school . I traveled everywhere with them using my flight benefits and customers seemed happy at least back then. Their only hub was DEN then as well and all flights connected there. I haven’t flown them since I worked there and from what I hear about them now I won’t in the future. I’d much rather keep those happy memories haha. Anyway thanks for the video.

I think when it comes to the complaints towards Frontier and Spirit, many of them come from people who didn't take 5-10 minutes to Google about them, which is really annoying. It's not like they appeared or changed their services yesterday, they've been operating like this for a long time (I know Frontier's change was more recent when they used to be the JetBlue of the Rockies). People should know better, but they still want to complain for the clicks because they "forgot" you have to pay for carry-ons, have a tiny little seat, and are *shocked* when their group isn't sitting together because they didn't want to pay for seat selection.
However, there were some shady things Frontier did over the last year, like the "COVID Recovery Fee" they had on recent airfare purchases that they eventually had to remove. That I do think was worth complaining about, and I'm glad they dropped it.

    • @sanspotter

I remember the time tables, the maps, etc. The ORIGINAL FRONTIER from the 60's were actually a MONOPOLY. This was due to no one flew where Frontier flew. They had a cool icon. The GOLDEN BOW with the TURQUOISE ARROW. My first flight was when I was 6 months old, according to my parents on a C47, I remember them all the way up to about 10 years old. Then the C580 and then the AWESOME 737. With anything, it's the people that make the difference and the people they had back in the 60's were absolutely WONDERFUL. If I had billions of dollars, I would buy out Frontier, first temporarily shutter revenue operations to rapidly retrofit all of the airline cabins with IFE systems and reclining seats with adjustable headrests, bigger restrooms, the addition of a business class cabin called Stretch Max, restructuring the business model and doing away with the al la carte model and move to a Legacy airline model, and rigorously train all staff to bring the best experience to flyers. Adding the option to book flights on the app on your phone. Then a big grand reopening and the frontier logo looks fancy with a cursive-looking green F and the animal-themed livery continues but is more subtle to give it a more luxurious facade. Inside you'll have dark green leather seats, ambient lighting, and be greeted with an Animal that says Hello welcome to seat # on your IFE screen. You sit down and you'll find the seat very comfortable. The boarding music will be classy with nature sounds and a string quartet. Make it like America's Emirates.

REASONS WHY I HOPE TO NEVER FLY FRONTIER AGAIN
    1. the "low' fare online looks great (once you minimize that enormous screen blocking "DISCOUNT DEN CLUB" popup.) until you realize that it's like seeing a 20 cent hamburger.......and then you pay 50 cents for the bun, 30 cents for ketchup, 20 for a pickle, 8 cents for the napkins, 10 cents for the salt, etc. etc. now some of you will say "THAT'S AWESOME. I only want a plain hamburger so I only pay 70 cents for bun/meat!!!" many of us would prefer not be nickel and dimed to death.
    2. thinnest seats in the flight universe. so thin and narrow the tray tables are laughably small. so thin and narrow your butt will SERIOUSLY hurt for anything over 2 hours.
    3. seats don't recline. did i mention they're insanely thin and uncomfortable. not just me. a few folks on both flights (2 hour flight btw- not a long haul) walking on the jetway mentioned how sore they were. saves fuel and allows them to cram an extra row or 2.
    4. seats don't have TV or USB charging/outlets
    5. not even a free soda/cup of water/tea/coffee or peanuts/pretzels
    6. flight attendants. seem like the JV squad. most were very young and prob their first Flight Attendant jobs or they couldn't get hired at the big carriers.
    7. the fees to check a bag, book a seat. even a carry on bag (larger than a purse) if you want anything better than a "bus in the sky" experience.
    8. flight was 2 1/2 hours delayed. it left dallas 2 1/2 hours late but the app only told us 90 minutes before our flight. so for a full hour Frontier knew and didn't update any of us.
    9. you'd think as a 'make good' a customer-service-focused biz would say "folks, we're waiving our fee for sodas and bottles of water/cups of coffee". would've cost them prob $100 for the whole flight and earned some goodwill. customer service ain't their thing.
    10. the difference between LOW FARE CARRIER- Southwest and ULTRA low fare- Spirit or Frontier, is huge. It's the difference between TARGET and WALMART. many like being treated like cattle at walmart because they save a few cents over target. Call me bougie; i'll stick with target.
    11. the price i ended up paying, because I had the AUDACITY to want to pack a suitcase and not shove everything into a 'man purse' AND I wanted to reserve a seat......was about the same as other airlines. the ONLY reason I chose frontier was the flight times were better.......until the 2 1/2 hour delay, LOL. lesson learned.
and that is why ULTRA low fare airlines will always appeal to some folks. look, some folks are quite happy saving money at McD's. others would never go anywhere below white tablecloth. For me I am happy with Southwest as well as the legacy carriers and will never fly Frontier again if I can avoid it. cheers!!

Same here, Southwest is a tiny bit more expensive, but you get free checked bags and carry on, plus drink and snacks for free (Unless you purchase alcohol), some recline on their seats, a streaming website for your device, plus they rebooked me with decent times and weren't too lazy to refund me and lose my bags.

Have flown Frontier three trips and they’ve gotten progressively worse. First trip I saw that seats are torture devices for your back, but it’s cheap and there were no delays. Second, return flight delayed four times. Supposed to leave at 9 p.m., actually left 1 a.m.--but we did get home. Third and last, booked direct for 10 a.m. flight, days later they flipped me, without my permission, to 6 a.m. flight. I complained, so had to chose a 1:00 p.m. with a connection in Denver. Arrived to airport in plenty of time, flight out delayed making me miss connection, ticket counter line so long I couldn’t get my luggage back. Frontier’s solution for me was to spend 20 hrs in the airport with my grandson and go on their first flight the next day. Ended up paying $600 to get on a red eye Delta flight, getting home 7 hrs earlier. Got a couple hours sleep before I had to go back to the airport and find our luggage. WILL NEVER FLY FRONTIER AGAIN.

I'm on a plane that's about 80% full. I'm sitting in a full row of 3. 3 seats in front are empty and in the 3 seats in front of those, my cousin is sitting by himself.
They won't let me sit next to him, unless I pay $15. So even though everyone is worried about Covid and wearing mask, they won't let us spread out unless we pay $15.

Tampa to Atlanta $47 round-trip each for 2 people. Very nice! Fine with the seats, fine with baggage fees, but then when you strand me in Atlanta for 2 days no hotel voucher. That's where i draw the line. I tried to get home on another airline but I didn't have $800. Tried to rent a car but there were none to be had. Cost me two days of work Btw. Thank goodness I bought trip insurance. Frontier had us sit at the airport for a few hours as we begged for help with hotel voucher. Eventually they gave in and told us check your email in 30 min. Didn't get it. Waited another 20 min after asking them to call and check on it again. Got tired of waiting. It was now past midnight for a 3 pm cancelled flight. You can't call Customer service to have them fix things. So just totally stuck paying over $500 to survive until they could rebook 2 days later. Yes they gave us each $100 voucher, but I can't afford to try them again. Last thing. If this was weather issue then totally understandable won't be mad at all, but mechanical have a backup plan.

I've flown Frontier twice in the last couple months and I wouldn't say they are bad... Just...you get what you pay for. No screens in seats, no wifi, uncomfortable seats, no snacks, no drinks unless you want to buy a $4 bottle of water from them, no frills, sales pitches, any excuse to nickel and dime you, very minimal customer service, and typically the lowest prices of anyone. The price is often a hundred or even hundreds less than a comparable flight on United or American. But you get very few creature comforts and if you have a bad back like I do you pay for flying Frontier in... other ways, in the days following the flight. Also there is just no escape from the screaming babies and poor people taking cheapo flights like these are going to have fewer ways to entertain or mollify their crotch-goblins. You get what you pay for. And for what you get from Frontier the price is fair.

The staff has always been professional and friendly. Buy one of those rolling suitcases that fit the dimensions of a "personal item" so you don't have to pay for a carry-on. I have fit a week's worth of clothes into a personal item size suitcase, so you just need to know how to pack. I am thankful that I have been able to travel to places that I may not have been able to afford, or care to pay a premium for.

I've flown over 50 different airlines in all parts of the world and I can honestly say that I have never had a "horrible" flight. The one time I flew Frontier we got stuck sitting in the plane for 3 hours after boarding, waiting for the pilots to show up. When they finally showed up the flight attendant "joked" that the pilots were late "because they were drinking at their hotel casino bar and lost track of time" and that "drinks were on the airline". There was no drink service of course but they didn't even have clean water and the joke was far from funny. Also sitting in the back of a packed 737 with only the apu running for airflow for 3 hours left me feeling really nauseous, felt like carbon monoxide poisoning but I'll never know.

My main concern is the safety of the plane (do they cut corners on construction, materials, and testing) and training of the personnel (do the pilots and FAs have to pass the same level/rigor of training as any other airline so they'd know what to do in an emergency?). Do the major airlines only accept A student pilots/FAs, and airlines like Spirit and Frontier accept B/C/D student pilots/FAs? Are they trained to the same level of rigor in all situations? Those are my main questions. If the answer is yes, then I see little reason to pay the extra money for Delta/American/United, etc. Flight delays and cancellations could also be a hindrance, though.

They hate it because they don’t understand that a budget airline is not a luxury experience. They gotta turn a profit somehow, which is why they nickel and dime you on every little thing. Airlines like this are EXCELLENT if you’re a solo traveler OR an adult traveling with other adults (NO KIDS), if you’re going on a day/weekend jaunt, if you have a flexible schedule, if you don’t care where you sit, and if you’re not bringing luggage. If that criteria applies to you, go for it. You can save a lot of money by flying Frontier. I flew down to Orlando from Raleigh for $38. It costs me more to put gas in my car. Insane deal. I paid it forward by bringing treats for the flight crew, and they were so happy with the treats that they bumped me up to a nicer seat. Massive win all around.

Flew Frontier once pre Covid St Louis to Vegas. Marginally adequate, as long as nothing goes wrong.
