You have allways been flying 50 times better than I can indoors, but outdoores.... I have been doing better, well...now you are 50 times better outdoors🥲 you are bringing best reviews and flying to youtube. Thank you
Thank you. I do enjoy flying and like to fly often. I have often felt my flying lacks the creativity aspect, often I have to work on doing something different a lot before it falls into a regular video
Thanks for the review Nick! Great flier. However, $259 for the analog version and higher up from there just stings. I feel like it's a tad overpriced but Avion RC is pretty well known for their build quality so some people may find that valuable. I think people may be able to build one for less than $259.
Definitely looks like a great little quad! I have a bunch of Jhemcu aio board, they are definitely my go to for small builds, they are crazy durable! And brotherhobby motors are among the best, i have no doubt that thing is a killer little ripper. Skystars also makes amazing stuff imo
Yay finally not another micro conewhoop! It sure goes good, saw about 5-6 near misses. Bit pricey for a 2.5”analog, but it looks like a solid BNF. Some times quality and good support costs extra. Thanks for the video! Cheers!
Hey Nick are you going to review O4 Pro Version of the Ikon 2.5.? Im really undecided between Ikon 2.5 O4 Pro, Ikon 3 O4 Pro, Nexa 3.5 O4 Pro and Babyhawk O4 Pro for Action Sports e.G. Mountainbike, Snowbords, Cycling this Summer. Thanks alot for all Your Work (Priority's are Noise vs Crash resistance vs Small Footprint, No Jello)
Appears that best value is to buy the quad with no VTX and add the video you want. I wonder how this would do with the full size walksnail pro (better night vision than the moonlight camera) or if its best to just get the 1s nano.
This little guy looks like a fun backyards ripper! It's a bit expensive for analog, but the build quality looks really good. How well does it fly when you're cruising? I've seen one video where he says it flies a little sluggish at slower speeds. Oh, and i also counted 6, maybe 7, near misses.
sluggish at slower speeds? That doesn't really land with me. In my experience sluggishness would come at more aggressive flight, pushing the throttle response etc, slower speeds is less demanding of the power train.
Not sure about “close calls”.. but I heard a phone call” in the background😂 I LOVE those Avan Rush props! I fly them on my Tinyhawk freestyle on 3s (darwin fc).. it’s my favorite quad!
Hey Nick! I double checked to see if it was my sound card for some reason (and it still might be) but near the last 5 or 6 minutes of your video the audio is a bit choppy! Just pointing it out, you probably noticed though!
Hey Nic, I purchased the Avion 2.5 pro without the 03 camera, I put my own 03 in the unit the problem is that on Betaflight configuration screen there isn't and OSD option
Awesome flight man ! I am waiting on my 6 4s batteries to arrive and I am only cruising with the one I have currently . According to the picture on their website it supposed to have GPS onboard. Can you confirm that because I am unable to locate it and I wanna use the GPS Rescue function if needed...
How would you say the ikon handles agility compared to the nexa 3”, for aggressive freestyle. And which one flies more like a five inch, which one as well is faster
the larger the prop the closer it will fly like a 5inch. As the prop size goes up so does the overall weight. The all out fastest quads we have seen are mostly 5inch with a few 3 inchers sneeking in the mix.
Hey Nick, thanks for another thorough review. Yours are always chocked full of information for the time spent. Personally I only fly analog and this tiny unit with crossfire is $300+ by the time you order which is just nuts. There are a few better deals out there for sure. In my opinion greedy manufacturers are holding this hobby back big time. Of course I realize their costs have gone up but they're no where near double which is what they have done with their sale prices. As long as we keep paying it I'm sure they will never stop but I have stopped buying from these greedy guys. Lucky me, God knows I have way more than enough drones to fly already and I can afford to add newer designs when it's a fair deal.
yes, pricing has certainly been rising. It seemed to really take off as HD FPV came about. The few quads we can get under $200 are analog and move are from DarwinFPV a brand known for budget based builds.
Sounds kinda loud? How does the noise level of this compare to a typical 3-3.5” freestyle drone? Is it quieter in person maybe? Is it a lot louder than a 2” 2s drone? Avionrc builds looks so clean. I’m so tempted to get one.
@@NickBurnsFPV oh for sure, but could you give some insight how this 2.5” quad compares to a 3”, or even a 3.5” quad? Is the Ikon just as loud, or is it a bit quieter? I’m looking for something quieter than my 3” freestyle quad for the local parks.
@@Greg__K It depends on the prop and its pitch. the higher pitch and the more blunt the blade tip the louder it is. Quad weight does also play a bit of a role as on equal sized quads the heavy quad requires more thrust at all flight types and does make it louder. In general the hq props are less loud, the emax and gemfan props are about equal. If I come this quad to a 3 or 3.5inch running hq props I would expect the noise to be about equal but if the larger props is gemfan or emax then I believe the larger prop to be louder.
@@Greg__K also keep in mind I am recording flight audio with a cell phone, I often think the flight audio is a bit louder than I perceive it. And I am never that far away from the quad....I would guess I am never more than 125ft away.
@@NickBurnsFPV Thanks for taking the time to respond, and all the great information. I've read in a few places now that people really love those HQ props. I've been running some 2023 gemfans on a 2" 2s build, and they're very quiet, but things change once you go up to 4s it seems. I even swapped frames and motors to run 2.5" props, and it was just as quiet. I've been eyeing the Walksnail version of the IKON, I even almost bought it last night, but I'm nervous that it's going to be just as loud as my 3" freestlye quad. Maybe I'm weird, but it's so much easier to enjoy flying with smaller quads because you're not afraid of hurting anyone, and like you said, the lighter they are, the quieter they tend to be. I can go all out with a 2" 2s without much concern. Thanks again, sorry to keep bugging you.
Hey Nick! I am close to buying this Ikon 2.5, but I have a couple questions. It looks like the newer props Avionrc are equipping this model with are the Avan Rush 3-bladed 2.5 props, with 1.9 pitch, made by Emax. But the Avan Rush was originally made for smaller motors like the Emax 1106 4500kv for 4S power or the Emax 1106 6000kv on 3S power, according to Emax's website, the makers of the propellers. So, in short, it looks like the 1404 4600kv motors on the Ikon 2.5 can and should power higher pitch 3-bladed props (maybe 2.5 pitch), or at least 4-bladed props with 2 pitch. Have you tried running the Ikon 2.5 with any other props for more power? I'm also considering trying it on 3S, but with a much higher 3 or 3.5 pitch 3-bladed 2.5 inch props. Cheers!
No I have not tried alternative props. It would likely require a pid or filter change with dramatically different props. When they changed from the 4 to the 3 bladed prop a pid change was also required.
They are very different quads, one with prop protection the other without. Seems the need to have prop protection or not would determine which one is the better option
I got the Avion Evo 3.5 and I struggled with the tune for a while, pitch and roll were bananas, the slightest input and I’d roll like 4 times (and often crash). Impossibly sensitive. I ended up lowering my rates on pitch and roll and it’s way better now. Also, it survived those crashes really well, one of them even in the Narragansett bay. I was ready to give up on it at that point but tweaking the rates helped a lot. It’s one of my favorites now
@@NickBurnsFPV I usually use the rates bnf come with and then tweak. I haven’t found a set of rates that feels right for every quad. But these rates were unflyable, you couldn’t touch pitch or roll and maintain control of any sort. It was far from what was expected. It was weird.
@StarrFamilyVideo gotcha. I don't recall the initial rates, but sounds like they might have been high. If so, don't try my rates, most see my rates are pretty off the chart high. 😂
The price is interesting. Some below have quoted $259 for the analog version? Considering the hdzero crux35 is $249 with the new freestyle vtx and 90fps camera. Kind of hard to justify the avionrc.
I can't really comment on the comparison of Tattu vs gnb. My Tattu batteries are much older than the GNB batteries I have been using. I hear good things about Tattu batteries.
I invested in the Nexa 3.5 Evo after watching your review on it and I love it! Coming from a 6s 5 inch, it feels and flies great. Had a couple hard crashes and not a single dent to props or arms. Def would recommend to anyone considering it
I didn't see many near misses where you really had to take obvious corrective action tbh. Nice flying. The term "near miss" is shortened from an event where as a pilot you get very near to a collision, but miss. Totally logical, the alternative is simply a collision. Nothing odd about it at all really when explained in those terms. I hope you don't mind me asking, do your neighbours not complain about the noise from you flying such aggressive, screaming quads?
Off the top of my head today I think there was one super close to the tree...the three slalom trees, and one where I nearly clipped the house by the outdoor cooking area. Can't remember the last one I was thinking off.
I had the 2S AvantRC Nexa Evo 2.5 with Walksnail. It was really light and agile and handled crashes well. The yellow plastic holding the camera was a bit in view which wasn't good because it was yellow. Also I thought the power cord was too long so I shortened it. I had to do something in BF to the get the OSD to work, otherwise it came all set up. But the video suddenly dropped out one day and I lost it in a rough area and couldn't find it back. I was very sad.
@@NickBurnsFPV I may have gotten confused about where I was and gone behind a ridge that blocked the signal. There is also a lot of RF interference where I fly. I have had issues with WS lite and GogglesX, but there has always been something else I could blame, so I am not sure. One thing that makes it hard is the GogglesX gives you a broken video recording if you don't stop the recording by pushing the button. @@NickBurnsFPV Another thing good about that Nexa Evo was the motor magnets were super strong and so the beeping/tones were really loud. Where I fly it is all cactus and boulders. Your quad can crash 1 meter away and you might not see it.
They probably didn't offer the HDZero version because the Analog version with a Ratel 2 will give you almost as good of video as the Analog 2 version, Without the nearly $800 needed for the HDZero goggles. That or the fact that HDZero only has about 10% market share so they figured they wouldn't sell me many. Me, I wish they'd make a Naked Vista version, cuz I don't need 03 performance to RIP this quad, but would love the huge weight savings! Seems like Vista has been forgotten since 03 came out. Better low light with Vista too! 😎🤘

They likely will have spares and the components listed....normally they keep the parts on hand for BNF orders then after a few weeks or so list the components/spare parts.
That's too bad. I think my next build would be between this frame or the soon to be released letsflyrc 3.5 frame. Both sub 250 and no props in view for the 03. But I already have all the other needed components.
@@kurtzFPV I have to check that letsflyrc 3.5. I like 2.5. but 3.5 it's golden, if it's not too heavy. My Quadmula SF35 is nearly perfect, only a bit heavy, but easy to repair, cause of it's design, and rigid The Djinn is imho for a 2.5" to heavy

Haven't broke it yet though (knocks on my wooden head😁). Though he hasn't shown the actual frame yet, the letsflyrc frame looks to fly really well. I just want to see the flight time now.
@@NickBurnsFPV yeah I think and hope so
Keep on doing your great work
Not near misses just real precise flying 👍
That is one way to see it as well. :)
😂😂
Kira is my favorite Avant quad. Still my go to. What a little ripper it is
How many years ago did that one come out? 2?
2 or 3 huh? @@NickBurnsFPV
@@andAgainFPVsounds about right
Your volume is a bit low.
I hear it now to in some segments. I went back and checked after it has been called out in these comments. Very valuable to get good feedback
Hi 👋
My new favorite expression is "worm burning." 👍
lol. that is one from my baseball days. Worm burner was a term we used to describe a hard ground ball.
A "near miss" is when an unmarried woman is close to you. I did not see any females in your video, therefore you had no near misses.
ha!
I have the 3 Inch with DJI Air Unit Lite. Perfect !!!
Are the props in view?
Can barely hear you talk in this video
Yes I hear it now to, as others have called out. Dang it! Sorry about that audio issue
I recently got a Nexa 3.5 from AVIONRC and so far I absolutely love it. Handling and quality is just as you described and when I had some questions the guy instantly answered me on WhatsApp. Super friendly and reliable support and also fast shipping.
The problem is, now I can’t wait to buy a second quad from them….been thinking about the Ikon :P
I hadn't heard they provide information on whats app. I suppose its a bit more allowed from their standpoint.
