shus Garage thanks mine wasn’t that bad where it was peeling. I used 1,500 and it came out pretty good. Only thing was I may have over sprayed too much clear coat as I have tiny bubbles on my trunk. I can probably buff it out but anyways it still much better than before as it was really fading in some areas.
@@kilokilo7347 if you spray more clear than you wanted to and it looks ok. Wait a few days and you can color sand it. Meaning you can wet sand it again with 1500 but not all the way. Then you can bring back the shine with rubbing compound 👍 you might like it better.
Just subscribed. I ran accross your channel looking for info on 2k clear coverage. Trying to see how many cans ill need for a hood. Im in San Diego and have a car channel too.
Hey man did you wet sand at all after the Clearcoats? I noticed some other videos some guys do that but I feel wouldn’t that just be sanding of the fresh clearcoat you put on?
So after you wet sanded it what happened to all the scratches it left behind does the clear coat just cover them all up? Because I did this with my carbon trunk and tweaked after because I saw all the scratches then I had my buddy buff the scratches out becuse I thought if I sprayed the clear over them they would stay there
Thanks man. Do you have any knowledge about good paints to use on carbon? I'm repairing my damaged bicycle (frame tube split in half) and I think I want to paint it instead of exposing my ugly repair job :)
No bro I'm just a guy who like to experiment with clear coats and paint stuff. Getting better as I go along. A good clear you can use is the 2k max. It's a aerosol spray can.
It's called a chemical reaction. Try cleaning the surface with dish soap and after you dry wipe it down with a tack rag from autozone or oraileys. Then you should be good👍. Usually happens because the surface is not completely clean.
Hey man I had a question got a new cf hood cheap bc it was faded it’s not peeling it’s just oxidized what grit do you recommend and how many coats of clear?
I think 1500 grid would be good to get all the oxidation off. 2 coats of clear should be good. Adding multiple coats of clear can cause you to get runs.
Hey man I just sprayed earlier but it ended up looking a bit hazy and almost orange peel Like, my conditions were cold and wet, could that have effected my clear?
yes. if it's cold the paint wont settle. I learned that the hard way after trying to spray over and over. you could let it dry and after 3 or 4 days you can do some light wet sanding and buff the clear so it shine again. or you can try and spray it again.
shus Garage I just sprayed again and I came to the same issue I think I have some gun setting issues I have the same exact one that you have what are your setting on it?
@@superskyrimjob yes it will turn yellow eventually but it's not the clear coat that turns yellow it's the actual carbon. Best thing to do is keep it covered when it sits in the sun. Using UV resistant waxes can help with that too.
@@shus369 Clear coat should stop it from yellowing if done first, they dont have clear coat when they come, its a gel coat that yellows, clear coat protects it from UV like it does for paint

Finally someone who does it with a spray gun, the cans look like crap
Looks clean. Will be restoring my trunk next weekend. Doesn’t look too hard
Thanks. Cool are you going to be using a spray gun or an aerosol spray can?
@@shus369 I’m not sure yet. Might just buy the gun
thanks bro this video is finally the one out of the many that was easy to understand.
Glad it helped you out. 👍
I've been debating between doing the wet sand and re clear or if I was going to wrap it in some CF vinyl wrap.
Wet sanding and reclear will make you love your carbon fiber again but definitely more work
Great work again shus on carbon fiber keep up great work
The_Caveman , thanks caveman.
U only need 1,500 grit sand paper?
Thanks for the video process btw going to try this on my carbon fiber trunk
Yes. If your clear coat is really bad and is peeling then you could go with 1000 grid .

Cool bro. I'll check out your channel. I would have a second can of clear just to make sure👍
Damn putting in some work! I havent even sprayed my grill with a can haha
VQ SLICK , bring it over to the front yard shop 👍
Not all the way done with the video bit had to say that I like the editing and the music choices so far 👌
Thankyou bro, this was a few years ago. I been working on my editing a little more.
Nice job!
Those guns kick ass!! for the price no better
Yes they do. I still use them for all the projects. Got some new videos on the channel. Check them out. 🙏
Hey man did you wet sand at all after the Clearcoats? I noticed some other videos some guys do that but I feel wouldn’t that just be sanding of the fresh clearcoat you put on?
Yes I did. I used 1500 to wet sand and then used maguire's polish to bring back the shine.
shus Garage thanks man, trying this out soon 👍🏻
The extra wet sanding is to remove any orange peel..level the surface and then the wax/polish to bring the luster back.
@@anthonyalvarez6735 I ended up trying this out, fkd my hood so badly. Had to get a body shop to fix it for me 😂😂
i kno it’s been a while since you posted this but is there any specific clear coat you recommend? thanks 🙏🏾
If your doing a small project I recommend 2k max clear. It's in a can. If your spraying with a gun I would go with shop line 👍
How long did this last? My hood has some deeper cracks in it.
Still good to this day. Just depends on quality of the clear. 2k clear should be one of the best ones to use👍
Did you order your clear online? Got a used spoon spoiler today but it’s a bit yellow and beat up lol
I bought it at autozone. I recommend shopline clear if you are going to reclear any carbon fiber parts👍

You should be wet sanding with 1000grid or 1500grid. You should not be able to see the scratches after you spray the clear.
Thanks man.

You can clean up and buff out the old clear coat with rubbing compound. I like to use M3 👍
