There are many things about India that need to be fixed. These things CAN be fixed through education, and loving those that are tossed aside. Mohandas Gandhi realized this, and he was the most influential political figure of his times (and maybe ours). Also how does this sanctuary for widows differ from the care facilities a majority of American elderly live in? Children are supposed to care for their elderly in ALL cultures, so our use of homes for them is JUST as reprehensible.

This is sad but history has shown that a culture, race that has become progressive, liberal and women gets more rights and freedom disintegrates, gets superseded by other cultures that are more rigid and male dominative. From ancient rome to modern west this is what happening. this is sad but ironically true. This is what preserved indian culture to survive for so long.Though seemingly liberal the core of indian culture is conservative and traditional.

There is no need on saying horrible things here, i am Portuguese and i dnt like no1 to say negative things about my country. No1 likes. Thing here is that things that are wrong should be corrected as we all deserve to live with respect and dignity, so therefor widows are human who deserves that! If there is widows dying without dignity someone should help them, however what goes around comes around and life its too short. My concern here is the true of the widows... concentrate on that...think
@kifagi You cannot generalize from these few examples shown in the video, most elderly people are taken care of by their sons and daughters. Taking into account the size of the population, I would say only a very small fraction of the elderly are treated this way. And another thing, it's also an economic issue as others have said - India is a developing country not a developed one.
I think it is because " the stronger one survives ". Many people will deny this but you can see that Darwinism is connected to Hinduism ( Hinduism is just a culture ). Just shit culture and society.
This saddens me. In our society we would never shun a woman for losing her husband. But who are we to say this is wrong. I mean its not about right and wrong its about beliefs. And these people's faith and beliefs are strong. At the end of the day its all some of us have. This is a 2000 year old practice....its not going anywhere. So instead of belittling thier beliefs....try to understand it. We may not agree with it but we should respect it. 1000's of years ago were we so different.
My apologies for that offensive comment. I have been praying for those women, and yes, I understand that judging is a sin. I have prayed for forgiveness and I believe He has forgiven me already. You are right; its not fair at all. The time is now. Our generation is going to change that young country. People are no longer afraid. Even in villages women are standing up for themselves. And that domino effect will spread. Honestly, nothing will be done sitting down. To get anything done in india which belittles a person based on sex or caste will be a fight.
This is heartbreaking. This is the doctrine of Male Supremacy at its worst. You would think that these women would turn to lesbianism and abhor men but somehow after all this humiliation and disrespect many of them would marry another man if they where allowed. Unbelievable
@Jamwock You are so right. Though I would never put my parents in a 'nursing home', it makes me a different person that looks at life in another way. What happened to the ancient Greek thing where we were admiring old age and wisdom? Today, we are so obsessed with youth (regarded as stupid many years ago) that we so through surgical procedures to look younger, when we don't, we just look the age we are, having had surgical procedures. Lot of women don't understand it, they think they look young

This is heartbreaking....abandoning their mothers like that...disgusting.
What a disgrace!
I would never marry if I lived n India.
So terribly tragic- bless these women
There is only one God. The LORD our God is one LORD. Worship him and only him. Nothing is worthy of being worshipped but him. All glory to him, all praise to him, there is no God but him, God is the Greatest. Worship God with all your heart, mind, and soul
very good documentairy.
this is sad but it tells u what happens to widows in india....so sad...
everyone has a right to be proud of their culture. What's "gross" to one is beautiful to another.
nice video nd concept.......
nd i want tooo help them
betrayed son and daughter, what the hell with all of this, sob and angry in my heart
How ungrateful children are in India to their elder mothers! It makes me sad.
Sigh. I have been here as a tourist. The guide shows us all the temples and then brings us here makes us walk through the whole depressing place then made us all sit somewhere where he asked all the tourists for money to run that place.
Amazing. Women shunned in yet another way. Because we live longer. What a crime.
This is so damn, sad, I need a drink to keep from crying. 🤨😑
So they are treated like shit if their husband dies anytime in life??? Soooo sad...and I thought Indians respected their elders!!
Bless all the people who help these women.
This is very sad----shames on their children and their family
How shameful for us we can't even take care of one mother......
i dont know why but when ever i go somewhere and there is a indian person they stare at me.
This women should not be undergoing all these, this is not being religious it is being brutal and inhuman. This women didn't choose for the death of their husbands.
Live long Dr Giri, may you be blessed in everything that you touch. Dr Giri needs more recognition
hehe i wonder if India is really so depressing. Almost every video i have seen here is depressing,
so much injustice in the world, i feel for these women.
"Honor your father and your mother, so that your days may be long in the land that the Lord your God is giving you." Exodus 20:12 - How frightening and dark is a religion that treats cows better than mothers and sisters?
“Mistreatment of women in India”?!? It’s dehumanizing *abuse* How can a person be “thrown away”? No one loses their intrinsic value as a human being if their spouse dies. And what about men whose wives die? I imagine their lives are much different.
How could ANY son/daughter abandon his/her own mother? G-d help these women!
My concern here is the true of the widows... concentrate on that...think
bottom line they are not family oriented...love one another as you love yourself.
whats the flute music played?
@kifagi You cannot generalize from these few examples shown in the video, most elderly people are taken care of by their sons and daughters. Taking into account the size of the population, I would say only a very small fraction of the elderly are treated this way. And another thing, it's also an economic issue as others have said - India is a developing country not a developed one.
Which holy books do you speak off? Just curious. And yes it does sicken me as well.
why hiduism is all about men men men.
I think it is because " the stronger one survives ". Many people will deny this but you can see that Darwinism is connected to Hinduism ( Hinduism is just a culture ). Just shit culture and society.
All religions
so sad to see them.....
@kifagi
I would really like to know your sources for that second statement of yours.. or is it through your own experience and research?
This saddens me. In our society we would never shun a woman for losing her husband. But who are we to say this is wrong. I mean its not about right and wrong its about beliefs. And these people's faith and beliefs are strong. At the end of the day its all some of us have. This is a 2000 year old practice....its not going anywhere. So instead of belittling thier beliefs....try to understand it. We may not agree with it but we should respect it. 1000's of years ago were we so different.
If you are in US search for "Indian restaurant locator"
it is fact of india why people leave mother because she can not give any benefit
shiv yadav in my religon mother's feet are gates of pardies
My apologies for that offensive comment. I have been praying for those women, and yes, I understand that judging is a sin. I have prayed for forgiveness and I believe He has forgiven me already. But that doesnt make my comment okay. Honestly I apologize to all who have read that stupid comment. God help me.
Bless their souls dear Lord God
Dear friend,
I thank you for your kind reply. You might have been defensive and unkind;however, you chose a gentle approach, and I am grateful.
I am sorry if I might have misinterpreted the importance of the video.
I know in my own Southern American culture how many things may be misinterpreted by outsiders.
So I can remain open-minded.
It is possible this video was produced by some who wanted to make Hindus look bad.
Thank you,
