  • I mentioned that I would be creating tutorials every Tuesday but unfortunately my chronic illness has been keeping me from doing so. I hope to get back to creating soon.
    Learn how to crochet these adorable ribbed-knit-look, pumpkins. The written pattern is available on the blog, here:

    I am going to use herbs to fill the pumpkins. Add a drop or two essential oil for scent.

    When she said the yarn was the color carrot, I checked mine to see what I got. I was pleasantly surprised to see that it’s the color pumpkin! How fitting 😊

      Danielle Roof ah, you got me! I also hold a pencil wrong and am kind of always finding a different route for fine motor skill tasks. Haven’t figured out why though, but I want everyone to enjoy craftsmanship, even if they have to do it a little different to get the job done.

      csclose Yeah, I hold the yarn wrong! I had to figure out my own way to get the tension proper. I could have put a disclaimer but I also wanted people see that people of all fine motor skill should be able to love crochet!

      Thank you for stopping by! Unfortunately I have not made my own beginner videos yet. I frankly think there are already so many great artists out there teaching crochet 101 and I’m happy to support them.
      My two favorite channels are Good Knit Kisses and Knitiversity
      I would start with Knitiversity’s Crochet 101 collection.
      This is their specific tutorial for the technique I use, called Slip Stitch In Back Loops Only:

      I will be exploring creating my own 101 videos in the future. Thanks🌸

    Hello, I think this is a cute pattern for pumpkins and was excited to try. I understand the pattern well and know to use only back stitch only slip stitch, however when I get to the third row I’m finding it difficult to stitch in the back stitch. Not sure why I’m having this trouble unless I’m am not leaving it loose enough or not doing it properly. The video is great but speeds ahead after the 2nd row so I wasn’t sure visually how to solve this. Again thanks for the video and cute pattern. Kell

    • @ourfirstrodeo3735
      @ourfirstrodeo3735  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Becca Brown just stitches in the back loops, stitching back loops only gives the ribbed affect. Sorry for not replying earlier, 2020 has given me so little space to prioritize our viewers. Sora Louie I wouldn’t worry about buying something new, I’m always using the “wrong” hook for small projects like this. I would pick the 5mm if I had to choose. Let me know if you have any more questions. I hope you enjoy this project🎃

      Yes! Stitch in "back loops only" for every row, starting on the 2nd row and every row after.

    Is the slip stitch the same as a single crochet stitch? Stick hook in chain, yarn over, pull out of chain and wrap back loop over the front loop so only working yarn left on the hook. Is that correct? I’m new at this...I have made a few things following TH-cam videos but I’m making these pumpkins to really practice my stitches...and to decorate my house for the season 😊

      Are you familiar with American or British terminology?

    • @ourfirstrodeo3735
      @ourfirstrodeo3735  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Okay, I’m thinking about it and I’m going to do my best to sort this out. Single crochet and slip stitch can be used interchangeably because there are two schools of thought. People who are taught the British way use single crochet to describe American slip stitches, double crochet to describe American single crochet and so forth.
      What you described, if I’m able to follow well enough, sounds like slip stitching to me, but someone else might tell you that that is single crochet. Whatever the case, it looks like you are doing the same thing I was doing. Given that this project is not super precise, like a garment, you don’t need to worry too much.

    And to.make larger sized pumpkin increase chains?

    • @ourfirstrodeo3735
      @ourfirstrodeo3735  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, increase the number of chains and rows. Soon I plan on experimenting with thicker yarn too, for jumbo pumpkins. Let me know how it goes!

    • @ourfirstrodeo3735
      @ourfirstrodeo3735  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I just finished experimenting with a thicker yarn. I used size 6 super bulky yarn (Bernat Blanket) and a size L 8.0 mm crochet hook. Using the same number of rows and chains, I ended up with a pumpkin the size of a grapefruit.
      I'm curious to know how your project turns out (increasing the chains while working with worsted weight). If it were me, I would first try doubling the number of chains and rows.
