    "It's kind of a coin flip" It probably isn't. Tuff is agressive pre flop, with a lot of hands, and it's common for players, with marginal hands to re-raise because they'll get frustrated at the constant raised preflops.
    His game plan finally worked, but doesn't understand why. LOL! It's why I love Tuff Fish so much. He's so dam entertaining.
    "Oh CRIMINY!" I do understand Jackal's call on the river, but have no clue why he'd call a raise with 10/7 out of position.

    @allankay12 Villain is the general term used to describe the opponent (hero for yourself). when discussing poker hands In this case villain is Fukken_Eh and hero is tuff_fish. You can see the hand you originally referred to at about 2:00. He does make mistakes, that's for sure (usually on the side of not protecting his moderately strong hands well), but in that particular hand, a check out of position on the turn was actually a very solid play.

  • @stinky472
    @stinky472 14 ปีที่แล้ว

    @allankay12 So his options are check and see what villain does or bet, in which case villain would either fold (best case), raise (in which case tuff fish would have to consider folding), or call and possibly bet the river, in which case TF would have a difficult decision. There's no point to bet out on a hand out of position when the only thing that can reasonably call you is going to be a better hand.

    @stinky472 Thank you for interpreting that for me. I'm a beginner player and I notice mistakes with tuff. Your analysis about tuff not protecting his hands is dead on and since your are correct on that I guess you are correct about his check. When I'm through playing tonight I will watch the clip over again, good luck at the tables

    @allankay12 In other words, if the villain is leveling, he might not have a flush but he might represent one with two pair (semi-bluff, i.e.) or even air. It'd be very scary if he 3bets, so the only reason to bet out on the turn there would be to protect the hand against a draw. It's a pretty small pot to protect and against a tricky opponent, he might very well put us all-in on the river, especially if another diamond comes. Against good players, I I'd check given the small pot and our position

  • @Petr3y
    @Petr3y 15 ปีที่แล้ว

    agree with you trueblue, you can't just call a 4 bet to hit an A or a K, thats the kind of play that loses money in the long run.

  • @stinky472
    @stinky472 14 ปีที่แล้ว

    @allankay12 That's a more aggressive strategy and not a bad one either if you can consider laying your A-high straight down if the opponent plays back at you. The real problem there was tuff_fish being out of position and that board which completes so many draws. Chances are that he'd win a small pot (in which check/calling is not a bad idea and he can get more info from villain that way) or lose a big one. If he had position, it would have been easier to play that more aggressively.

  • @stinky472
    @stinky472 14 ปีที่แล้ว

    @allankay12 true and I don't think that's a wrong play, but the ace-high straight isn't a very strong hand on that board. We're out of position and villain could be drawing dead: the villain's check on the flop could mean any number of things and the pot is so small (mainly because tuff didn't cbet the flop). The whole raise pre-flop was just a steal attempt that failed, so tuff lost interest after that. He still should have cbet the flop though.

  • @stinky472
    @stinky472 14 ปีที่แล้ว

    @allankay12 Actually I think his biggest mistake was not c-betting the flop. He kind of gave up after he got a caller. I think that might actually be one of the reasons why he can manage to be a winning player though in spite of his sometimes fishy plays given his lack of ability to narrow down a villain's range (lack of hand reading skills, i.e.). He can give up and lose a small pot. My biggest leak is not recognizing when I need to give up in a hand: trying to two-barrel a calling station, e.g

  • @stinky472
    @stinky472 14 ปีที่แล้ว

    @allankay12 Only the flush beats us but the problem is this: what kind of hand would call on that board? The only weaker hand that could call (unless we're against a calling station) that we'd beat would be two pair, and someone with two pair is unlikely to simply flat call in that spot (they would likely at least raise or fold). If they raise we face a tough decision. The hand is strong in the way you suggest, but on that board it's a very face up hand-something that generally wins small pots..

  • @stinky472
    @stinky472 14 ปีที่แล้ว

    @allankay12 In spite of his mistakes though, he's a winning player overall: (search for tuff_fish on fulltilt for his profile). He's not a pro (poker is not his main line of work, he just plays during his spare time). He has some wild swings but he has managed to profit overall and to be able to do that over a long period at 10/20 despite tougher games these days is not bad. We also tend to see the worst of him, not his best, and he tends to realize his own mistakes after a hand.

  • @stinky472
    @stinky472 14 ปีที่แล้ว

    @allankay12 Yeah, I think tuff's intention there was just to pick up the blinds, but he got a caller and just sort of gave up. Kind of a weak play and he seems to be a bit of a nit but it's unlikely that he would win a big pot with that board especially since there was no action on the flop. In a normal heads up situation with more aggression I think it's not a bad idea to bet the turn even if you don't have an ace.

  • @allankay12
    @allankay12 14 ปีที่แล้ว

    @stinky472 I decided to catch the clip in between hands. My reason not to check that turn is why give the "villain" a chance to make a 4 card flush? and you always have the option of folding if the villain re-raises. That was my thinking on why i would not check my nut str8 there. What do you think?

  • @allankay12
    @allankay12 14 ปีที่แล้ว

    @stinky472 With the pot being so small checking turn is perfectly fine to do. But if diamond hits river and he leads out you have to throw your hand away. Betting the turn may just win you the pot right there. But since the pot was small checking is fine. But usually the aggressive play wins,correct?

  • @travz21
    @travz21 14 ปีที่แล้ว

    I've never seen tuff fish make a single play that's a nl2000 quality play. Everything he does is nl25 level. He talks shit in the chat when he wins, doesn't know what he's talking about while analyzing a hand, and leaves the table before the blinds get around to him. He's not a complete fish, but pretty fucking close.

  • @stinky472
    @stinky472 14 ปีที่แล้ว

    @allankay12 No, his check on the turn was a very reasonable play. TsJdKdQd facing a 4x BB caller PF and out of position. What kind of hand range would call that bet? KQ at best, and only from a donk, and even a donk playing KQ there would have to raise or fold, it's unlikely he'll call. Someone with FD would also most likely raise or fold there, and someone with a flush would very likely raise in that spot.

  • @RaiBok

    Yes he did, but he was afraid of the flush

  • @allankay12
    @allankay12 14 ปีที่แล้ว

    @stinky472 Why do you consider the A-high str8 "isn't a very strong hand on that board"? There is only a flush that beats you. I understand the opponent could have 2d3d thru AdJd but still having the nut str8 on a board with 3 diamonds is more then 66% chance you hold best hand. Is my math correct I'm not sure if I calcualted it correctly.

    @allankay12 or loses big ones. To win big pots at such limits generally requires a fairly disguised hand.Then again I play at 25NL so I would probably bet out there and hope that a calling station with two pair or just a ragged king would call me, but that's only because there are so many bad players at the micro limits I play. I think checking and evaluating on the river is not a bad idea.

  • @allankay12
    @allankay12 14 ปีที่แล้ว

    @stinky472 I'm betting there because I'm trying to protect my straight. Not necessarily to get called. You have said,many times, that checking is correct play. How would you feel if you check and river is diamond and four diamonds are on the board? Now your opponent with one diamond has made flush. Maybe he had top pair with one diamond or two pair with one diamond both hands you might get the guy to lay down with a bet on the turn. I would be fine with betting turn and winning pot right there
