Olivia Munn Opens Up About Her "Terrifying" Breast Cancer Diagnosis | PEOPLE
/ people - บันเทิง
I just want to point out that for the majority of women in America, this timeline is not their reality. Being seen by a specialist, getting an MRI (rather than a plain old mammo), getting the MRI results an HOUR later, getting an ultrasound the next day, biopsy the following day- this is a fantasy for most people in the US unfortunately. The diagnostic journey is months to years for many women. Not all healthcare is created equal.
Agreed
She is very lucky having money and means to fight cancel so quickly. Most of us dont have a chance.
I begged for my biopsy date sooner, not possible, surgery for my dbl mastectomy was months in the waiting! I felt like a ticking time bomb, I called everywhere in AZ the surgeon's booked so far out! It's bad, really bad!
This is very far from reality in a public health care system, like Canada where I live, and there's nothing high tech like a robotic biopsy, at least not anywhere I've heard of.
Exactly! This is the reality unfortunately
this brought me to tears. not only is she so well spoken, she was so raw and real. wow, olivia, you're incredible
She was extremely fortunate to have great medical insurance and to get the tests done immediately. Ultrasound and MRI are very expensive unless you have outstanding medical coverage.
I'm higher risk than Olivia based on my family history alone. That assessment test seems flawed to have her number be so high when she didn't even mention having remarkable family history of the disease and tested negative for BRCA. I would have been sent on my merry way with a clear mammogram and negative BRCA test. Nothing adds up about Olivia's experience. I worry that people are going to think they can have an MRI if they ask for one. It's not likely that insurance would cover that.
@@jgbgw591 There are a lot of cash based MRI places that will do an MRI for $300. In an emergency if someone is worried, that's what they should do if they're insurance won't cover it.
Yes..and those doctors being so through by approving the tests. Real life young woman are being told …let’s wait and keep an eye on it not a good thing.
@@jeanlaubenthal698That's not true, I was 28 and the doctors rushed me through to have a lot of tests. There was not a moment wasted, I called it the whirlwind. That's why it depends on what city you live in and what doctor you have. You have to do your due diligence to have great doctors. Even if you live in a town where there's not a lot of good doctors there is at least a couple of really great doctors and you have to seek them out. It's called taking your health into your own hands. Even before anything happens, always only go to the best of the best doctors that you can find wherever you are.
Expensive? How? If you are paying out of pocket, yet...with a half-decent company insurance it's easily manageable if you aren't upside down in bills.
I was moved by this interview and her authenticity. Wishing her and others going through this strength and health.
She is incredibly strong. To go through this transformation and fight, on top of early motherhood, postpartum, and now induced menopause. Sending light and love her way. ❤
just like everyone else that goes thru it.....
@@racer111259 i knew there was going to be someone like you responding this. Yes, but everyone else doesn't have a platform, she does because she worked for it... saying she is brave, doesn't negate the bravery of everyone else who doesn't have said platform.
@@racer111259 not in the same year
She’s amazing, she was also dealing with everyone having beef with her for something that is not their business, I just can imagine the overwhelming
@@racer111259why watch anything from people magazine if you harbor such resentment for celebs. You’re on the wrong channel
I had my first BC at 33 and then was rediagnosed with stage 4 at 37. It is hard. But 3 years out and I am NED, no evidence of disease.
❤️
She's going to help a lot of other women by being so transparent, open and vulnerable with her story.
Her story is millions of women all over the world on a daily basis. I am happy her turnout was good (and as she noted she was able to assemble a "team" oh, ok.) but I am not inspired by her at all. In fact, let's hear from real "people" and how this sort of thing affects their lives and not another rich celebrity who appears to have it all. Sad this happened but how great would it be to spotlight REAL people once in a while. Probably not great as we are bring.
This is such a beautifully honest and personal confession. I’ve always liked Olivia but I’ve never respected and admired her more.
Wow she is so eloquent and carries herself in such an honest light. Truly has helped so many women!
How? How did she help so many women?
I was holding my breath watching this video. That’s a lot to take at her age, as a new mom, a partner, an actress…I’m happy for what she’s achieved. Thanks for sharing.
Her age? she’s a new mom, but she’s not young. She’s 44
Let's surround this brave woman with healing light and love. Also, can we just acknowledge John? What an incredible man and loving father. This is what a real man is. Love to you all.
How would they not catch it on a mammogram?? That’s terrifying for the rest of us women who don’t consider the alternate ways of checking if the mammogram is clean
It is pretty concerning to hear. Also the MRI didn't catch as many growths as ultrasound did. I can't imagine my doctors being this thorough after the first negative mammogram and negative gene test
Yes, not wanting to look, not comfortable even touching the fresh wounds and yet the surgeon is ecstatic at the results. It’s hard to accept the barbarity required.
I’m in awe of this woman. Bravo for her strength, her partner’s support and the fight for her family.
Oh yeah, the partner that cheated on his first wife with her that resulted in a baby. He’s a POS and so is she.
In awe of her being with a man who was still married? Yea ok
Great OBGYN!!! I wish we all had access to really good doctors. Healthcare as an absolute nightmare in this country. Only the wealthy and privileged have access to the best doctors.
I understand what you mean, but in Italy it is even worse. The wait time between getting your GP to write you a recommendation for a visit to a senologist for a visit, to then get a sonogram, then waiting again to get an MRI in another CITY, then back to another doctor, and then a biopsy, then surgery, can literally be months of waiting. It's a whole other level of anxiety and probability that original problem progresses as time allows the beast inside you to grow. Tough to explain, nightmare to experience.
@@bearin29 that’s EXACTLY what we go through here!!! Exactly. I’m a home care nurse. That’s how they make their money.
@@alianaweston2286 It's disgusting.
@@bearin29 The treatment she received is something that 99% of American’s would never have access to.
@@Mexicobeanpole I believe it.
I remember watching a TH-cam video of Malcolm learning to say “no!” You heard Olivia laughing in the background….Then, Malcolm broke out into laughter. She is a wonderful mom and wishing her a long life ahead.
I was just diagnosed last Wednesday and have always loved you and admired your work. Thank you so much for this! ❤ you are NOT alone and NEITHER am I. Our stories are very similar.
Prayers sent your way❤
🙏 🙏 Do your best to stay strong. This is an example this happens to soo many ppl. If she can get thru it, you can too - you just gotta try & keep trying, failure is not an option! You won't go down without fight!
Have hope and faith.
You can't give in and you can't surrender!!
My heart and prays are with you ❤
sending prayers and love to you.
She's a pillar of strength. Keep fighting Olivia. 🙏❤️🙏
Gotta give support to Olivia for braving the public and being so open.
Olivia has been one of my favorite actresses since I discovered her in The Newsroom. She frequently shows up in my TH-cam feed because I will watch anything that features her. However, this interview was the first time I felt like I got to know a tiny bit of the real person and not just a character. It is truly a story of courage and perseverance. I'm glad she decided to share it.
My heart goes out to this wonderful actress, sweet person, amazing woman. Her story, her truth, can help others! Only the best for her, John and their son in each today! 😊❤
Amazing woman that can't stop sleeping with men that are already in relationships. 💯💯💯
@@victortoombs4754 just go away. Plz. Leave her alone.
Wow she is sharing something so deeply intimate. I love when she said that she liked the way she felt and the rest didn't matter and there are so many gems in what she is sharing..Thanks Olivia and People for this. Wishing her well.
I'm sorry for what she is going through. Kudos to the doctor who gave her the risk assessment test even though everything came out clear. Actually makes me wonder why she thought it was necessary. I have to advocate and push to get my doctors to just do tests sometimes, never mind doing one even after everything comes up clear.
I so admire her strength and courage to tell this personal tale with such clarity and compassion. I feel she embodies strength and is surrounded by love. I think she will help so many others.
Thank you for sharing your story and raising awareness for others to get tested! Wishing all the best to Olivia,John and little Malcolm❤❤❤
She's so beautiful inside and out. Hope she does okay and pulls through. ♥
Girl that’s a lot like a LOT, you’re so strong, it’s admirable. Enjoy life, I hope you can enjoy now, you deserve it.
Sorry to hear. Life will bring some bs to everybody at some point. Always be grateful for today and appreciative for the blessings you have today.
What a wonderful woman! Thank you for raw transparency; I’m sure a lot of women will be comforted by this.
Still stunning. What a warrior, I hope time brings her peace.
Being a new mother too must add significantly to the stress. I wish her well. My sister had it and has made a full recovery.
This lady is one of the biggest reasons i watched the old G4 channel besides being a gaming nerd. She was out there in her younger days. Im so glad she has a family now and she is fighting for them. That is beautiful. I hope she gets through all of this. She is a national treasure.
So many thoughts but to sum it up, this is heartbreaking, beautiful, and inspiring. You look beautiful and nothing can change that. You are a strong woman!
This is sad, especially as a new mom. I feel for her, illness is very sad as a mom. Mothers need support post partum, imagine mothers who are so alone.
The amount of strength and vulnerability she exudes is INCREDIBLE, thank you for being so raw with emotion, John and lil Malcolm are so proud of you, don't feel nothing less than a Champion for winning this battle, wear your battle scars proudly!💜🌠🌌🌟💜💯 #WARRIOR MOM
I’m in awe of Olivia’s strength and positive attitude. Blessings to her and the family. She will help many people. ❤
She certainly didn't help Anna Marie when she got pregnant with her husband's child.🤣🤣🤣
@@victortoombs4754 U fukkin her or something? good lord, you're obsessed, LOL
I´m so sorry you have to gone through all this and on top of a dificult postpartum, My heart goes out to you and your family!
What about Anna Marie, who was suicidal when she found out Olivia was pregnant with her husband's child? No love for Anna Marie?
Unbelievably beautiful and honest interview. She speaks with the wisdom of a much older woman. Thanks to everyone who worked to make the video.
Lots of plastic surgery. Look up how she looked before.
@@valamossso? That doesn't change what @sarahgentile9464 said 😉
She *is* an older woman. She’s middle age
Her honesty is going to help so many people. ❤
What about her "honesty" when she got pregnant while Mulaney was still married? What about sleeping with Timberlake when he was in a relationship with Biel? No sympathy for those women?
Wow. May God protect this exceptionally strong, beautiful and inspiring woman. Wow. Just wow.
Brave lady!! So sorry this happened to you. Big prayers for healing and strength. Beautiful inside and out!😢🩷
Thank you for sharing. God bless you and give you peace 🙏
It’s great that you’re speaking about it. Stay strong and god bless you and your family.
God bless you and your family. Thank-you for sharing your story. It will help so many people.
Very articulate and very generous in praise …makes me proud of her and of women. So, so strong 💪🏻
Thank you for sharing your story. I am sending you love and l know that you are surrounded by your family.
Your strength and vulnerability to share and endure this journey is so incredible ❤ I have gone through induced chemical menopause (Zoladex) at the age of 26 due to severe endometriosis. Thankfully I had a good experience despite the side effects. I wasn’t “pain free” by any means, just felt like the volume had been turned down. I know how intense those menopause side effects can be, and for you on top of everything else you have to endure my heart goes out to you. Thank you for so openly sharing your experience. Sending so many positive thoughts, prayers & love your way ❤
Praying for your complete recovery.
Thanks for the story about this incredible and strong woman, Olivia Munn! ❤❤❤
Lupron is no picnic. I took it for 6 months. Going into menopause in a month is not easy. Good for her for talking about it.
Sorry to be so intrusive, but will your period come back?
God bless you! You are helping a lot of women ! Hopefully we will all spread the word about the risk assessment test. Thank you again for sharing your story. You are helping us all.💐
She is very strong and I am so happy she is sharing this with us! I have seen many bikini pics/videos of her with her baby when he's only a couple of months old. She said she struggled to lose all the pregnancy weight but she looks exactly like she did before in those videos. How?
very strong mamma! i am glad that she god better and gets to see her little boy grow up🙏
I am so very sorry for what you have had to go through. However, you are very strong and levelheaded. I am glad that you have a wonderful husband and the most beautiful baby! The best to you and enjoy your life. Your doing great! Enjoy your blessings.
You are so brave …sorry you had to go through this❤
She is very strong and you can see how much she loves her family!
What is this assessment that the doctor gave and shouldn't all women get it? This information makes me think mammograms are worthless.
It’s the Tyrer-Cuzick risk assessment. Just a bunch of questions about your family history, etc. Over 20% is high risk, which is what Munn got. It’s part of most obgyn procedures.
Olivia’s story is an inspiration. Thank you for sharing her story with the viewers. ❤
May Life gift you, John and Malcolm healing and peace.
Olivia, you're going to be around to watch your son grow up to be a man, go to college, fall in love, get married, and all that life has to offer this sweet boy. You are going to be alright. 💛
I hope she makes a full recovery.
A beautiful and strong woman, thank you for sharing this difficult story. ❤️

Wow….. she’s so brave and beautiful 💜
Really proud of you Olivia. Keep going on. You are truly an inspiration to women everywhere. 👏😘🤗🙏
She's always been to me one of the finest women I've ever seen.
Wishing her a full recovery, and every other man, woman, and especially children out there suffering with these ailments.
Maybe if we can get our so called "Leaders" of the World to stop spending money and focusing energy on new ways to blow the Earth up 10x over, we could finally start discovering more cures...
I can't stop gazing at how insanely gorgeous she is. What a fighter, and with class.
I tried to describe my change for years(After cacer dianoses) and she summed it up so beautifully. When you spent weeks hoping for one more day then you become normal again, you can never go back to being bored or many other emotions. It feels lIke I don't belong here, like death forgot about me, so I live like every second is a bonus. I should be worms meat, yet today I got to share her moment w/ her and for that I am grateful.
Such a nice, eloquent lady. ❤
Such a beautiful person. I wish her all the best for the future
she's gone through a lot and I wish her the best!
She is really fortunate to have the means to find this early and treat it. As another commenter said, it isn’t the reality for most women.
I always liked her she's a great actress and a beautiful smart sweet lady I am sad to hear this be strong we love you and our prayers are with you.
Ultrasounds paired with mammograms are standard in Qatar, Thailand, Mexico, and Albania…countries that I have lived in. If I were back in the states, I’d head to MX for diagnosis and possibly treatment. Sadly, the US is so far behind in the way we handle healthcare.
May God and Angels be with you and protect you. You are so very brave to tell the world this.
Sending her love and healing vibes
Biggest hugs dear one 🙏🏻❤️
I know this is irrelevant but she is so beautiful smart well spoken and thoughtful. Good luck to her ❤ it sounds like she has a great team of doctors
Praying for you
I am so incredibly thankful for Olivia sharing her honest experience with the world.
Bravo to you and John and Malcolm. Bravissimo.
Great respect for her courage & vulnerability to share. Wondering what costs of all these tests are for American Women? Thanks.
Excellent interview!
Great selfless interview; a real resource for others. Youre truly a great woman Olivia.
