Jerusalem should be Englands national anthem, flower of Scotland for Scotland, and anything for the Welsh, because anything that wonderful country and its people sing sounds magnificent.!!
The defiance about not being slaves is not mocking the North Atlantic Slave Trade, but a defiant trope against the North African Barbary Pirates that were enslaving Europeans. This song was almost cancelled due to the word slave, it is what happens when people are ignorant of history.
The bigger issue is they're intentionally ignorant about history. They've been told the facts a million times, they've had the option to research they facts, but they never do. Because they can't admit they got things wrong & love to have something to crusade against.
Exactly! Not sure if it's true or not, but I read the song came about when the Barbary Pirates took women from Cornwall and one of them shouted "I will never be a slave" before jumping overboard, unaliving herself.
People often forget that the word slave itself comes from Slavonic as in the Slavic people today who were enslaved in like the 9th century. Long before Europeans started enslaving Africans.
@@Gohka Europeans didn't Enslave Africans, It was Africans who enslaved Africans, It was Europeans and Asians that bought them, The Slave markets were already thriving before anyone outside of Africa knew about them.

This is the last night of a two month very prestigious classical music season, where the audience and the performers have fun, it is the only evening when flags will be flown.
Jerusalem and the National Anthem from the last night is the best... by far Saying that, this is fantastically good, and funny ❤ from Northeast England ❤️
When I was a little kid, every year there was a Proms performance at a local park near our house, and my mum would let me and my sister stay up past our bedtime, sit on the doorstep and listen to the music. Some of my favourite childhood memories.
They also do Dr Who at the Proms. A lot of people do not believe Brits are patriotic as we don't shove it your face all the time but when we decide to do it there is no-one lese like us
The conductor was an American and this was his first time at LNOTP hence the learner driver “L plate” on the back of the podium. He was told he would be surprised at the crowd’s reaction and he was absolutely amazed and delighted.
Last Night at The Proms is held in the Royal Albert Hall but is screened live to various venues around the UK, the Royal Albert Hall is at the bottom of Hyde Park so the two venues are pretty much next to each other.
I started watching you guys a few months ago, l really enjoy your take on all things British and the respect you guys show. Your music reactions are awesome too. I’m so pleased you looked at this - you don’t get more British than Last Night of the Proms. Please check out ‘Land of Hope and Glory’ followed by God Save the Queen’ from the Proms 2012. Heart stirring. Great job guys, keep um coming.
Party in the Park is awesome too, people gather all day in Hyde Park, take a blanket and a picnic. Amazing day watching bands, year I went it was the remaining Jacksons which was plenty of dancing and a happy day. They televise from the Proms on big screens so everyone gets involved :)
You reacted to Bohemian Rhapsody in Hyde Park. This is the reason UK crowds sing so well. We were brought up on this stuff. It’s just what we do. Sing. For anything. At anytime.
Hyde Park is just across the road from the Royal Albert Hall, and they hold open-air events there, "Proms in the Park", and on the last evening there's a live feed from inside the hall. The other location is Hillsborough, County Down, Northern Ireland.
So glad you both enjoyed, thanks for sharing. As a proud Scot and Brit, it's such a privilege to be. As to recommendations Jerusalem at The Proms The British Crusade Against Slavery The Victoria Cross : For Valour Be well, one and all ❤
The Proms is a music festival running from July to the beginning of September. The Last Night of the Proms is the culmination of those concerts. There are a fixed set of pieces played - Rule Britannia, Land of Hope and Glory (Elgar's Pomp and Circumstance March no.1), Jerusalem, the National Anthem and Auld Lang Syne.
I love this performance from the proms. Usually it’s not my cup of tea and i’m usually more patriotic about Scottish things rather than english things because i’m from Scotland but this performance made even me proud to be part of the UK. I hope you both had a happy new year 🥂🎉. Take care 😘🏴
They used to play this on its own, but latterly it's been embedded as part of the Fantasia on British Sea Songs, which in itself is fantastic. Loads of traditions in the Last Night, e.g. the singer usually has some kind of flag on them, hence Sarah Connolly's sword as she was cosplaying Nelson. Occasionally this stretches to being echoed in the clothes the singer is wearing, like Thomas Hampson who was resplendent in a combined US and UK flag waistcoat. Sarah Walker sang it in a gorgeous pure white dress and as the crescendo at the end arrived unpinned a section to reveal the flag within.
One of my favourite nights of the year. I've been watching it for almost 40 years now. Makes me so proud to be British, I end up with a tear or two by the end of the night,
I am glad you had a look at a great British annual fixture, the British are some what reluctant about being patriotic, but this is one time we show our pride with gusto, and it is great to see, keep up the reviewing, you are a nice couple to watch and listen to.
The soloist has a wonderful voice and played her part so well. You may have noticed that the concert was broadcast to huge crowds outside in Hyde Park and also in Norther Ireland.
It was recommended most because this is the one that's been seen on every other reaction channel by the people recommending it. Every channel just does the same videos as each other that got views but ignores suggestions that haven't already done the rounds.
Sarah is a Mezzo Soprano and plays many male parts in operas. The conductor is American. Please react to Gladiator Hans Zimmer HM The Band of the Royal Marines it will blow you away. It was at an annual Beating of Retreat at Horseguards, the music, the setting and the marching is just brilliant. Sound recording of it was top notch. 🙂 pretty please 🙏
Watch I Vow to Thee My Country it’s incredible. It’s called the Proms because when it first started people used to promenade around ie walk to listen to the music hence the The Oroms
Many years ago in 1962 my late wife and I were lucky in winning two seats for the last night at the Royal Albert Hall. they can't be booked and are by ballot only. Sitting up high looking down on the Promenaders who are standing for the whole concert and hearing all of them singing their hearts out was the most emotional evening I have ever had. Sadly your recording did not show the next part, which is 'Land of Hope and Glory, Mother of the free.' Emotional tears tend to become a waterfall hearing the thousands singing that one. I am now 85 and watching it each year brings back happy memories of my late wife also singing her heart out
Hyde Park is just across the road from The Royal Albert Hall. While The Hall has a capacity of of 6,000 the number of people who can be accommodated in the park is over 100,000. I've been to The Last Night Of The Proms on a couple of occasions and my personal highlight is the singing of Jerusalem which can and does bring a tear to the eye of even a rough arsed construction worker. By the way, the reaction you did for The Moody Blues, Nights In White Satin was recorded at their concert in The Royal Albert Hall. For what it's worth I rate this venue as the best you'll find anywhere. It doesn't matter where you sit or stand the views of the stage are great and after Eric Clapton donated some of the proceeds of his many shows there the accoustics are incredible. Think of a legendary performer and they'll have played there.
This is a snippet from the Last Night of the Proms, the Proms, or Promenade concerts were the brainchild of Sir Henry Wood, a muscically talented man who wanted to make classical music concerts available to those who normally could not afford to access them. Hence the 'Promenade' in which part of the audience stood, or was able to 'promenade' around the Albert Hall. The Last Night has become so popular, that add-ons are now customary, with screens for audiences to watch elsewhere, hence those scenes from places other than the Albert Hall. The Last Night follows a fairly strict routine with lots of favourite join-ins like 'Rule Britannia'. All are traditional and joined in with gusto, as you can see. Recommend watching one more of these to see the range of songs which are sung.
The venue is the Royal Albert Hall and is the traditional home of the Proms. Interesting fact about the venue that at the end of the clip as they show you the hall and audience you may notice semi circular disks hanging from the roof. Well they are an important part of the building as they can be raised or lowered to change the acoustics to best suit whatever style of music that is being performed in the hall.😊😊🧡🧡
FYI. The Royal Albert Hall used to have the worst acoustics & bands & artists would dread performing there. This was due to the gigantic dome in the ceiling. The sound would go up there, bounce around for a while & then come back down really making a muddy mess of the sound. In 1969 fibre glass upside down mushrooms were installed to deflect & control the sound waves from the dome which drastically improved the acoustics. in 2019 they installed a 465 speaker & amplification system. The RAH now has one of the best acoustic sounds in the world. It's also an amazing venue. You can see the mushrooms lit up with blue lighting in the wider shots.
I love last night of the proms not only because I'm a patriotic Brit but also because last night of proms always falls some time close to or on my birthday. So it's like an extra birthday present, too. My personal favourite at last night of the proms is "Jerusalem", but I wish they would one day play "I vow to thee my country" because that is my all-time favourite patriotic song.
The venue is the Albert Hall, London an iconic building which hosts music of all kinds and this is a chance for folks to let their hair down at the end of a long season of music, its an iconic song and evening, a celebration which some have questioned as it hails back to different times but most folks realise that and use it as a chance to as I say let their hair down.....have a listen to early Maria Callas singing, unbelievable, theres a movie due out soom, amazing woman, an icon....
Whilst I was a violinist with the National Youth orchestra of Great Britain, we would play during the proms season, at the Albert Hall and it was amazing. We'd be given tickets to the last night, which was always brilliant fun. This was back in the 80's and 90's.

Even as a kid in the 70s i had to watch this every year, i didnt even know why, but it became a must for me a brit growing up in Denmark, and Denmark has been showing it since i can remember. Theres not a lot of memories of living in England in the 60s and early 70s to feel any particular way about the UK but alas this has always been a must watch if i was in and it was on. And all the national anthems are amazing i would say. But theres others that gets to you for sure... 😊
Sure the Brits have a very lop sided view of history...they are fed bollocks and lap it up..The truth is pure flith though..Deep dive and you'll find out
Land of Hope and Glory is the one, I'll add my name to the list of people asking you to watch that one. And so as there's no doubt about which one, it's Last night of the proms (2012)
Have to say good as this is check out more of the last night of the proms because this is only giving you a flavour of how rousing and joyful the last night of the proms is and how engaged the audience is.
1745 was the first time Rule Britannia was performed, ironically 31 years before the USA was founded. It sure does have history. Some say it should be our National Anthem. Thanks for the year long reactions and to you both and your family have a great New Year and keep the reactions coming. Stay safe.
In order to apply for tickets you have purchase tickets to a number of other performances in the year’s season. These performances are usually from a wide genre of music so that you can choose what sort of music you like to listen to They cover a really diverse range of musical tastes from high opera to barbershop quartets, from jazz music and blues and even pop music. One time I remember that they had a concert performed by the choir of the Russian Navy’s Red Banner Fleet, complete with some Cossack folk dancers. Every performance carries a number of points and the more points you earn increases your chance of being offered the opportunity of buying tickets for the last night of the season to be in the audience of those who stand throughout the the evening’s performance. It is possible to straight out purchase tickets for the same performances but you won’t get into the Promanade section without going through the system. Some of the concerts are performed during the daytime but the first and the last nights are strictly evening performances but all shows are simultaneously broadcast on BBC Radio for those who cannot attend in person.
That is my Uncles brother on the big timpani/kettle drums!!..he has since retired...I have watched this every year all my life. She is dressed as Admiral Nelson who is a hero in this country, his statue is in Trafalger square, London. This is the last night of the Proms, it goes on through the summer.
Lot of good prom clips out and land of hope or glory versions are good fun, also at the most respectful end try ‘prom 70’ when the queen’s death was announced and the prom was very brief.
Watch same concert Land of Hope and Glory, and Jerusalem, this event is held every year for around 6 week, finishing with the last night and all the songs us Brits love to sing along too
Hi Mike and Jess best reaction vids on utube love them. I am from the UK and for sheer patriotism please see Jeruselum and land of hope and glory. Last night of the proms is held at the Royal Albert Hall London which is relayed to big screens at various uk locations including

Although i actually had a part-time job, in the 80s, with the Royal Albert Hall i only managed to get tickets for the last night twice. An experience that should not be missed. Now the performance is also to be seen on screens in the park so thousands more can witness the event live. Seeing it on TV is not quite the same.

The end finale is just so rousing and Nimrod will bring a tear to the eye 😢😊
Love your reaction this always makes me smile
The last night is the culmination of a couple of months of concerts featuring a wide range of music styles, land of hope and glory is also a highlight. The outside crowds are in parks all over uk . 10:31
dont worry, its all about learning, you are both doing well, keep up the good work.
Sure the Brits have a very lop sided view of history...they are fed bollocks and lap it up..The truth is pure flith though..Deep dive and you'll find out
It’s practically the only fixed time that we can all show our patriotic verve. 👏👏👏🇬🇧
Without being locked up by Stalin, sorry, Starmer.
Hyde Park is outside the Royal Albert Hall just across the road
I live in hillsborough County Down
It’s now known as Royal Hillsborough
The king has residence here.
Simply wonderful, celebreting being british. ❤😘🇬🇧
Yaaaay one of my fave Proms performances! Nobody does the ol' pomp like the Brits hahaha
your faces are proper joy I I lobe that yes we get patriotic occaciaonlly ... not often, this every test is EPIC off the scale when we do, Wei DO !!!
Land of Hope and Glory is the one, I'll add my name to the list of people asking you to watch that one. And so as there's no doubt about which one, it's Last night of the proms (2012)
It's not very often that brits are patriotic, but when it comes to rule Britania, we go absolutely nuts
Have to say good as this is check out more of the last night of the proms because this is only giving you a flavour of how rousing and joyful the last night of the proms is and how engaged the audience is.
We Brits appear reserved but when we show our patriotism we go big - all out 🇬🇧🎉🥳
Yeah, Elgar's pomp and circumstance (aka land of hope and glory) 2014 at the proms is worth a watch. You will know part of it I'm sure.
Dame Sarah Connolly, one of our greatest and most loved singers.
And from the North East of England ..😊👍
Lovely stuff! I remember this and Sarah Connolly - Dame Sarah Connolly - is brilliant.
Watch same concert Land of Hope and Glory, and Jerusalem, this event is held every year for around 6 week, finishing with the last night and all the songs us Brits love to sing along too
They even do Dr Who at the proms which is absolutely awesome and very entertaining to watch
Last night of the Proms, 'Land of Hope and Glory' and 'Jerusalem' next then. Thanks for doing this.
Hi Mike and Jess best reaction vids on utube love them. I am from the UK and for sheer patriotism please see Jeruselum and land of hope and glory. Last night of the proms is held at the Royal Albert Hall London which is relayed to big screens at various uk locations including
Sarah Connoly wore the naval costume of the days of Lord Nelson. Hyde Park is literally over the road from the Albert Hall. Hillsborough is in County Down, Ireland.
Note: The Conductor was/is an American. I think he enjoyed himself.🥰
Land of Hope and Glory is epic and the crowd really belts it out.
Very proud to be British.
Also check out rememberance day services at the royal albert hall.
I 've been lucky enough to have visited the Albert Hall and nothing prepares you for the sheer size of the hall it really does take your breath away
Although i actually had a part-time job, in the 80s, with the Royal Albert Hall i only managed to get tickets for the last night twice. An experience that should not be missed. Now the performance is also to be seen on screens in the park so thousands more can witness the event live. Seeing it on TV is not quite the same.
The Hillsborough, County Down crowd are in Northern Ireland.
What is also interesting is all the other flags people were waving, Australia, New Zealand, Isle of Mann, France, Germany. Also a Viking.
Only one "N" in Man please ,
