The WRC is the FIA World Rally Championship, a tough motorsport using rally cars on real roads around the world. Watch the best rally drivers battle on gravel and asphalt roads with mud, rain, dust, ice and heat! Watch high speed action as the rally drivers power slide and drift round narrow corners, go flat out over a big jump or through a watersplash, handbrake turn round a hairpin, survive a big moment, or have a massive crash! Rally requires maximum attack and careful tactics to become world rally champion.
Each rally has timed sections called special stages, on closed roads. Drivers complete these stages as quickly as possible. A co-driver reads pace notes that explain the hazards ahead. Rally drivers use the same rally car to travel to each stage on public roads, following normal traffic regulations. The crew which completes all the stages in the shortest time is the rally winner. Championship points are won using the same scoring system as Formula 1. The championship is administered by Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA), motorsport's world governing body.
Over 30 countries have hosted WRC rallies. Rally Monte Carlo, Rally Argentina, Rally Finland, Rally Portugal, Tour de Corse on Corsica, France, Rally Sardegna on Sardinia, Italy, Safari Rally in Kenya, Acropolis Rally in Greece, Rally New Zealand, Rally Australia, Rally Japan, Rally GB, Rally Catalunya, Rallye Deutschland, Rally Mexico and many more.
Some of the world's greatest drivers have won the FIA World Rally Championship for Drivers, like Colin McRae, Carlos Sainz, Walter Röhrl, Stig Blomqvist, Petter Solberg, Ott Tänak. The list of world rally champions includes many Finnish rally drivers like Juha Kankkunen, Tommi Mäkinen, Ari Vatanen, Marcus Grönholm, Hannu Mikkola. French drivers have had success with Sébastien Ogier, and 9 times world champion Sébastien Loeb. Famous drivers from other motorsports have come to try rally driving like Ken Block from Rallycross, and Robert Kubica and Kimi Räikkönen from F1.
Car companies compete for the prestigious FIA World Rally Championship for Manufacturers awarded to the most successful WRC constructor. Winners include Citroen, Hyundai, Volkswagen and Peugeot. Ford have had success with the Ford Escort, Ford Focus and Ford Fiesta when the M-Sport team won in 2017.
The 1980's featured the iconic Group B rally cars like the Lancia 037 and Delta S4, Peugeot 205 T16, MG Metro 6R4, Ford RS200 and Audi Quattro.
Japan dominated the 1990s with the Mitsubishi Lancer, Subaru Impreza, and Toyota Celica and Toyota Corolla. Toyota returned to the WRC in 2017 with the Toyota Yaris WRC, winning in 2018. Best WRC era for me was years 1995-2002. Best cars like Lancer Evo3-6,Subaru Impreza,Ford Escort Crosworth/WRC,Focus,Toyota Corrolla and Celica,Peugeot 206 and 306 and many more like kit car class with Megane,Xara, p306,Golf .Best drivers like Richard Burns,Colin McRae,Tommi Makinen,Juha Kankunen,Carlos Sainz, Panizzi,Rovanpera etc. and SAFARI RALLY...Great adventure of WRC season.
And I loved also British Rally championship season 1996-2002 with great cars like Vauxhall Astra,Golf,Megane,Escort s2000, Ibiza,P106,Almera and others.
I think that 2017 will be best season since 2002.

What could be more awesome is Subaru returning with a WRC-concept, Lancia with the Ypsilon, Mitsubishi with the Mirage, Fiat/Abarth with the 500, SEAT with the Leon, Chevrolet with the Sonic, and Peugeot with the 208.
Might as well call Lancia dead at this point sadly and that Ypsilon is hideous!
The Mirage is already competing in some rallies, most recently it was competing in APRC at Malaysia. The car itself was in R5 spec build by MPart Sport. I've seen that car compete in Malaysia, it came second behind the Fabia R5.

2010 was the best year, nothing could beat those 2 litres the sounds and speed was just amazing
Best years for me?
· 1980 = Roadlegal rallycars, most were RWD
· 1996 = Roadlegal rallycars
· 1999 = 7 goddamn manufacturers (Mitsubishi, Subaru, Toyota, FORD, Peugeot, SEAT and Sköda)
Group B was actually stupid. Cars were so overpowered and had so little control that drivers were actually quite slow around the stages. They were so slow that by 1988-1989 almost every single stage record was beaten by heavier less powerful cars!
1999-2003 was my favorite era, so many teams were competing back then and the majority of the most successful rally drivers raced in those years (Mcrae, Makinen, Sainz, Burns, Gronholm, Solberg, Panizzi etc.), 2004-2016 was a rather boring era and I'm glad it ended because 2017 is pretty interesting so far

2001: Arguably one of the Best Seasons!
2002: The season with rising new talent.
2003: Last "Great Season" in the 2.0 litre-Era
2004-2012: Loeb/Citroen Dominates (Ford won the manufacturers between 2006-2007)
The mini was the first professional rally car very iconic winning the Monte Carlo 3/4 Times back to back very iconic and well balanced
After almost three decades of suppressing engine power, FIA finally did something right. Return of the Group B, in a much more refined form.
Mitsubishi & Subaru . There is nothing to beat that rival.

The WRC during the Loeb Era (04-13) got really boring. Nothing new in him winning. He may be a good driver. But not that much out with the rear and show.
skylineXpert Yeah, you have a point as it feels so boring to see the same old winner over and over. Colin McRae may have won just once, but he was seen by many to be a showman.
And if you look at the championship winners, it was followed by Ogier era. I thought Tommi Mäkinen's four consecutive driver's championship wins were nuts, but I had no idea what was to come. 😄

If the wrc had any sense for popularity and profits, they would make fewer regulations on engines and have cars be unique like they were in the group B.

group b was banned as there where so many driver and spectator deaths, one of the last group b crashes killing a young driver and 9 spectators in an RS200. Still group b is awesome.
