It’s crazy how petulant and emotional Sir Alex can be despite his age and experience. To suggest that Keane wasn’t one of his ‘world class’ players is baffling. He was the better CM than Scholes and was the one touted as the best all round player in the world by most in around 2000 (forget the Scholes revisionists for a moment). Scholes, Giggs and Cantona were never at his level. He WAS Man Utd and I remember him singlehandedly winning what many consider the best Utd performance ever against Juve in the ‘99 CL semis when Butt was actually preferred to Scholes, who was warming the bench.
Fergie seems to not include those who dare questioned him. Keane, Schmeical (easily best keeper in the world for a time), Stam (best defender in the league and Europe for a while) and Beckham (FIFA World player of the year runner up TWICE) were all world class yet he doesn’t include them as he’s always had his favourite brown-nosers and those that never questioned him!

@@msimelelomqikwa1213 So let me break it down for you. The video they are asking Roy about here was his post match analysis he did when he was a player for a 4-1 loss United had to Middlesborough. It was standard back then for one player to be given the task of doing a video break down for each match and it was Roy’s turn for this one. The whole situation has a lot a of controversy surrounding it for just how brutal and harsh Roy was on his own teammates, and was the beginning of the end of his United career. Guy was essentially kicked out of the club not long after. However, if anyone knows anything about Roy, it’s that he was a hard ass who demanded absolutely top shelf effort from every player at all times. The relentless, championship or die trying attitude that defined United under Ferguson in the 90s and 2000s was built by leaders like Roy. So, herein lies the difference of opinions: Roy doesn’t see what the big deal was about the analysis since it’s the same treatment he’s always given the players, while apparently some of the players and coaching staff felt his assessment was wayyy over the line even by his brutal standards. What original post is getting at: If they still had the gutsy, championship hungry leaders like Roy who aren’t afraid of offending anyone in order to win titles, United would still be winning silverware. It’s a common topic amongst guys like Roy, Evra and the class of ‘92. Personally, I think there’s some credence to that sentiment.
@@RollsReus-tm6hu I'm not sure which players played in that match but I am pretty sure most won the EPL & maybe even the European Cup during their time at UTD, which is something players at UTD signed after Fergie retired can only dream of, I bet Keane & zillions of UTD fans are more pee'd off with the players during the past 7 years (2014 - 2021) then they were at the UTD players in that 4-1 Middlesbrough match.

I was at the game. Nobody played well but Ferdinand was particularly bad. Couldn't blame the forwards as they were starved of the ball. You just need to look at the team though - Bardsley, Richardson, O'Shea, Silvestre, Fletcher, Smith. Some pretty average players there. Mendieta on the other hand was outstanding. Showed why he was once one of the best midfielders in the world.

Roy Keane was definitely good for Manchester United. Everybody has said so and so my understanding arrives vicariously. There has to be good reasons why Alex Ferguson chose to make him captain with a selection of so many others, and then there's all that was achieved while Roy Keane was captain as well. You never know, but maybe it was rumoured that United's success was down to Roy Keane, but regardless, that combination of Keane and Ferguson was special for Manchester United for so long. I was supporting Arsenal for most of that time, but I remember these things.
As a polyamorous horse with a club foot & severe alopecia I really respect his opinion & the ability to grow a beard (any hair for that matter)
