One small update: There is a way to play the Game Boy-replica in Marathon mode via the Time Warp option! Though it's not a full recreation of the original game
To be fair to Tetris Forever’s lack of inclusion of the NES and Game Boy games, at least the Game Boy version is on NSO, with the NES version coming this winter.
It’s already an issue with this compilation even. You notice that the Nintendo in house, Sega and Atari/Tengen ones are omitted being playable despite being discussed in the documentary timeline. The only legal way to play them now is NSO or the case of Sega was the Mini when the home port was released first time on it.
As Tetris Forever is published by Atari and developed by Digital Eclipse, I’m sure we will see this game be updated with more Tetris games in the future, either through updates or DLC, much like they did with Atari 50.
@@SALTYTOAD00 - Them and M2 as well. Both have had a solid reputation for their emulation quality! Not as good as community developed emulation, of course, but very solid nonetheless!

Yup, Tetris Forever is the third entry to Digital Eclipse's documentary series Gold Master Series. Weirdly Atari 50 wasn't a part of it, even though it would entirely fit.
@@goSciuKM It's not part of it, but with the success of Atari 50, it what helped them lead onto these types of projects they wanted to do. I really do like these documentary style games, learning their history while playing some games along the way. And Digital Eclipse seem to be really good at emulating those classics.
I'm so excited and can't wait for Tetris forever game to release tomorrow. Plus I am excited both are coming this winter which are. Tetris on Nes Version on Nintendo switch online and Tetris 99 Maximum cup. 😊
I'm just happy we have a officially way to play various versions of Bombliss cause that game mode is so good. I hope Wordtris or CDi gets added cause those are other weird ass versions of Tetris
Exactly. I hear people complain about the lack of Galaxy 2, but I see no one talk about the lack of extras. All we had was the soundtrack for each game.
Did anybody else play tetrisphere? I really liked that game. I feel like nobody knows what I'm talking about when I bring it up lol. Did I just imagine it 🤔
Terrisphere was the bomb! (Literally with that one power-up!) And the soundtrack was amazing th-cam.com/video/JMum40OPp4Y/w-d-xo.htmlsi=8d5QDTrf7RZnrluv

My biggest question: does it include Tetris Attack or Tetrisphere? I've been hoping beyond hope that Nintendo will finally put them on the Online Service
@GameXplain Fantastic soundtrack and underrated gameplay. Would love to see it and Tetris Attack come to Switch online, though for the latter, I feel like all they'd need to do is change the title screen graphic to say "Yoshi's Puzzle League" lol
it would have been so awesome if the Gaming Historian licensed his Tetris history video out to be used in this game since it's still the best showcased version of Tetris legal history (one that Andre' apparently isn't aware exists)
Kind of! There is a Marathon option for Time Warp without the Time Warps, but it ends after clearing 150 lines (which is a lot, unless you're really good!)
@@Al3x-c4s Yep, you can turn off the Time Warps in multiplayer! Also, I forgot to answer you earlier (outside of an incorrect edit I just removed), but YES you can play the GB version too in "1989 Marathon!"
I'll definitely be buying "Tetris Forever". It's cool that they use the same menu UI as the "Atari 50" collection which looks good imo. Though, I wish we had more variety of Tetris games ("Tetris Worlds", "Tetris DX" would have been awesome), the devs on Steam at least said they had a very specific vision with this release.
My hope is that at least for Switch version due to rights, Nintendo will at least negotiate with Tetris Company to allow the retro Nintendo iterations. I know Nintendo wants us to use NSO to experience those games, but I think for purposes and alignment with the Tetris history it’s crucial to acknowledge these and allow us to play them. Even if it is a seperate expansion so Nintendo gets money from it especially, I wouldn’t mind. More ports of those games are welcome! Even can leave Tetris and Dr Mario as is just because! Of course I would also appreciate the Atari/Tengen version (both arcade and Famicom/NES) and the Sega (arcade and Sega 16 bit).
Hey Andre' thank you for moving back to a numerical review system, the old one was very unhelpful since the end score was often a non-answer which made the reviews feel pointless, 1-10 scale isn't flashy, but its more informative than shoulder shrug
So this is NOT the first interactive digital museum from Digital Eclipse. Their Gold Disc series on PC has been impressing players for a few years now too.
Out of all the included versions of Tetris on this, Bomblis has to be my favorite, though i do wish the NES version and Game Boy version of Tetris was on this, but i get that it's not, due to copyright. I also really loved Tetris 2 on Game Boy when i was a kid.
I highly enjoyed the Atari 50 Collection for the interviews and info despite most of the games being not my cup of tea. I expect to feel the same about this. I also expect there to be DLC with more versions from other eras.
It's a nice compilation for sure. But after playing Tetris® Effect in VR, I don't think I'll need another one anytime soon. The original arcade game and the first portable ( Game Boy) version, still holds up very well and dear to my heart, but really, who needs 18 versions of it ? 🙄
I understand not including the Tetris arcade port on NES from Tengen, given the controversy surrounding it, but not including the Tetris arcade game? That is just wrong. I guess Atari no longer has the licensing right? The arcade version of Tetris is big part the history of Tetris. Maybe they'll add via DLC some time down the road? For those unfamiliar, this is the Tetris arcade game. th-cam.com/video/S_wLyoDkJ60/w-d-xo.htmlsi=vZ6QOHHSINFBxw_9

No nes, gb, and ds tetris means no buy. $30 for a collection of mostly mid tetris variants and doc clips i could just youtube. Meanwhile nintendo wants me to pay them monthly/yearly to play the best versions, nes and gb. Sadly, licensing still ruins tetris to this day.
I want my money back for this game with no NES or Gameboy versions. I know I should of done my research but mistakenly thought that the NES version would be the one version included.

Thats why the version of NES & GB are not included.
Why is it taking this long to put the NES version of Tetris in NSO?
@ I have no idea. They only said it will be coming this Winter, so I believe it will be between now and February.
But how does it help someone who's on PC and wants to experience the game emulator-less
@ I have no idea, I can’t control the licensing.
With how massive Tetris is, I'm shocked it took them this long to make a compilation.
Licensing issues I'm guessing
