As soon as you said “parry only”, I immediately started to think about a challenge run. Unnntil 5 seconds later when my hopes and dreams were shattered.
Been playing for a while now, and all roadblock/required enemies do not have only have red attacks. Some Bosses will take their sweet time, as they have not many parry opportunities, but it should work^^
A note for those looking to play now, the armor sets have been given actual effects, such as boosting unlocked abilities or simply making you tougher. As well, there’s now vanity slots, meaning you can still look nice while being geared optimally. I played the game for a while, and while I dropped it cause I’m not much for difficult games, I enjoyed my time very much. I can highly recommend it, being well worth the money. Even if you don’t like it, steam has a refund feature that I’ve found to always be accepted for the first two days, even if you played for a little over the two hour limit.
I have to admit, out of all the games where the protagonist is some kind of bizarre entity, a sentient black hole definitely stands out, especially since nothing else in the game is remotely like you.
This game is really nice!! After I beat the vulture I went right into the Acid Weeper... which is most likely a late game boss, his music is awesome! this is the hardest 2D Boss I have ever faced!! Took me over 2 hours and was so close to the edge of quitting but overcame with extreme focus... hurrah me!
It's worth noting that they added the armor set bonuses in recently. Now each piece of armor will boost a stat or multiple stats by a percentage and equipping all three of a set will boost a particular stolen enemy skill by a percentage. Aside from one that's basically a ring of grasping. As far as I've found. They didn't take away the cosmetic use either since they also added cosmetic slots.
This game is a lot like sekiro, where most people are used to dodging, but you really have to learn to use parrying as your main way of dealing with enemy attacks instead of dodging.
I recently picked up GRIME thanks to all the buzz around the new updates/free DLC and this shining review. I’m only three hours in, but I am already loving it. Your challenge runs are tons of fun, but I would not mind seeing more straightforward reviews like this.
Don’t know if you will ever see this, but I’d just like to say you have a great channel! I enjoy seeing the backlogs games, but I also love seeing the challenge runs. You introduced me to S&S, which I now love, and I can’t thank you enough for. Also, I’d like to say congrats for how well your channel has been doing! You have like 1,000 more subscribers every time I look lately! So again, congratulations to that, but it’s no surprise, you deserve it! Keep it up man!
Far be it from me to tell you what to do, but if you do any future review-style videos in the future, I'd recommend opening with more of your opinions on the game, as well as trying to hook the viewer earlier in the video. The shot at 2:10 was effective at getting my attention and getting me invested in this game, but I doubt I would've gotten to that point of the video if I wasn't already a fan of your channel. As for your opinions, you seem a little reserved about sharing them in this video, mostly commenting on the elements as you explain them. Overall, this gives off the impression that this is like a 7/10, like it's a good game, you didn't see anything wrong with it, but it didn't exactly "wow" you too often. As a viewer, I wanna know why you made the video, y'know why is the game significant enough to spend time working on a video? Other than the fact that you got a review copy, of course ;^). Teasing aside, I just wanted to point out the effect your tone has with the added context of having a review copy, just so you're aware for the inevitable S&S2 video.
Much appreciated! These are the notes I need for these kind of videos - still getting my feet wet when it comes to reviews, honestly. Thanks for your constructive feedback!
what do you think about the variety of the playstyles? in Dks ans S&S there is a big difference between dex, strenght and magic builds (especially in the last one).
While I don't think it's quite as varied as Dark Souls or S&S, there are certainly enough weapontypes that you'll probably find something that fits your playstyle. You can even switch quickly between weapons, if you're more of a "hit 'em with the daggers then smash with a hammer" kind of person. "Magic" is more about special abilities (like increasing gravity around your enemies to knock them off balance), parries, and unique weapons like the fingersword. Definitely a stat worth testing if you're into unique gameplay.
Ok so, I felt like a NEED to clarify this. Wearing armor only has an effect with the full set. The wiki has a list of what these effects are, and they're pretty great. Look it up.
@@TheBacklogs All item locations, boss strategies, game mechanics, lore, general game insight. Really any excuse to get more of you and Salt and Sanctuary. You two are like a really skilled and funny peanut butter and jelly sandwich.
I'd say it comes to how good you can parry now. If you miss most of them, try to increase the parry duration. If you get then pretty often, reduced damage.
this game is easily one my top 3 favorite metroidvanias, which is impressive as one of the metroidvanias on that list is my favorite game of all time, the only thing im not a fan of is the amount of content in the game, i need more!
It felt very balanced as I was playing - never felt like I didn't have enough power to deal with upcoming challenges, but it was never too easy that I got bored.
Ngl I can't believe how the game with quite probably the worst map ever and combat, that has less impact than a gnat's bite got so many good reviews. It feels underdeveloped in every way imaginable. Although I'd guess good reviews, but non existent community says smth about the game and the devs. Very happy I got it for free, as I'd be very disappointed if I'd waste money on THIS
While I agree completely that I'm all for games removing "the long walk back" from boss runs, it was refreshing to only have about 20 seconds worth of walking between bosses instead of the usual 2-5 minutes.
As soon as you said “parry only”, I immediately started to think about a challenge run. Unnntil 5 seconds later when my hopes and dreams were shattered.

As a girthy boy myself, I appreciate a game that allows me to cultivate mass.
Bröther, in the name of girth we must *_E X P A N D_*
GAIN BIOMASS REGARDLESS OF THE COST
Can't wait for the Parry Only run.
Seriously, the parrying mechanic looks like it's a total blast to use.
Gonna be impossible since you can't parry red strikes
Been playing for a while now, and all roadblock/required enemies do not have only have red attacks. Some Bosses will take their sweet time, as they have not many parry opportunities, but it should work^^
There is a single pot enemy in the intro i might have to whack, but outside of that...parry the world.
Parry the world, my guy!

So far sounds like a mix of bloodborne and Salt & Sanctuary. (I mean, I’m not complaining.)

Your transition into the music excerpt was really nicely done, and as a musician I can also say it's always appreciated :)
I just picked up the game. Armour actually does give you stat boots. But you can also use them as cosmetics and not gain the stats
Lemon, the reason I got into Grime.
100~ hours later, no complaints.
Just a burning hate for the Misbegotten Amalgam.

well i already knew that i willplay this right after i finish Ender Lilies but its nice to see a good review from someone whomst judgment i can trust
This game looks very promising. Hopefully, this'll be the game that will scratch my itch before Salt and Sacrifice.
Looks pretty good and sounds interesting, definitely giving it a go.
For $25 it looks really good. It’s too bad I have to wait for a console release.
Hopefully the devs announce some console information soon.
Thank you for the lovely video!
Great review, will definitively look into this game, looks pretty good

This looks so damn good. Love the concept.
Did our boy get some sponsorship ???? YAY!
I've seen 1 negative review of this and two postive so I'm going to give it a try while this is on sale.
Then here is me worrying Grime look too boring in the demo you playthrough. It look gorgeous. I will definetly get it on my whislist.
Looks neat! I'll have to give it a go.
I friggen loved Grime
I did only parry run, that was the easiest of the other 2 runs

Do you have any ideas for challenges on different games?
Oh hi

Release it on PS4 and you got a deal.
your armor isnt just cosmetics. it boosts you traits and stats
