I just made one of these with my sister today! We didn't use burlap, we chose Christmas printed fabric and it turned out AMAZING! Something we will cherish forever! It did take some serious hours to complete, though. Perfect to sit down and binge Netflix or movies. And it also took a lot more yards than that was said in previous comments. We probably used about 5 or 6 yards total! Overall- it was an awesome day!

I made one of these for my halloween tree! Make sure your rows line up at the ends i didnt realize i had a problem until i was 4 rows deep luckily the ruffle pattern is very forgiving. Mine took about 4 yards each of 2 colors ( tighter ruffles) It was time consuming mostly waiting for glue to dry.
I love the look , it would fit in to my decor . Here we are in 2020 , and the fabric shop are closed . Because of the pandemic , got all the supplies . But not the felt , an ideal to get around this small problem ?

Hi Amanda. Sorry, I missed your question! This 3 foot skirt took about 2 yards. The tree that is was on was about 6 feet. The tree skirt could be bigger, like 4 feet wide. I would estimate you would need 3 yards for a 4 foot skirt. But if you make the ruffles larger, it may take more.

This burlap tree skirt should not be machine washed, but you can vacuum it to keep dust off and spot clean it if necessary.
If you make it out of fabric sew it. Then you can wash away!
