My one question for you is: Where can I find the extra large rick-rack? I've tried many shopping sites online but have not been successful. I realize you may be so busy, you're unable to answer but I did at least want to thank you for all you do, for all you have taught me!
I had the same problem and needed a finished look with a tree skirt. I purchase and inexpensive round laundry basket, cut the bottom out and made a slit. I put this under my tree upside down then arranged my tree skirt on the basket and secured it in the back. My pets have never bothered my tree skirt since.

Looks good! For an even quicker skirt, serge it together and let the serger cut the bottom fabric for you. If you're going to cover edges with rickrack or lace, you don't even have to turn it. Just serge it right sides out. However you sew it, I like your explanation for cutting the circle. Most of us are intimidated by a large circle of cloth.

I love the sample you did. Now, that my children are grown, I have a 2 foot miniature tree sitting on a coffee table. It looks like you use two fat quarters. To make a smaller tree skirt, measure the fat quarter, divide in half, fold it in quarters and then proceed as directed?
