  • What do you get when you mix the Lewis Machine & Tool M203 37mm Flare Launcher with a Brownells BRN16A1 Retro Rifle™? One badass clone of the U.S. military's M16 rifle / "Launcher, Grenade, 40mm, M203" combo - but ONLY if you install it correctly! Brownells Gun Tech Steve Ostrem shows us, step-by-step, how easy it is to install LMT's civilian-legal M203 clone and its accompanying handguard. The result? A remarkably authentic-looking replica of the classic M16A1 / M203 grenade launcher combo used by U.S. troops in every conflict since the Vietnam War.

      You know that you can shoot buckshot and slugs out of the launcher legally if you register it as a destructive device right? It’s not useless.

    Yeah ok it’s a “flare launcher”. Grandpa showing me how to put a destructive device on my AR! Love it.

      37s arnt considered destructive devices. Not under the same rules as 40s

    I found the easier way to install the trigger guard is to disconnect the upper from the lower, place the trigger guard where it needs to be, push the whole upper back into place and push the take down pins into place. It prevents the steel guard from digging away at the aluminum lower.

    I bought a longer 37mm to 26mm flare adapter that didn't fit in mine, because of a ridge on the inside diameter. A shorter one did work.

      Yes, trained armorer from the 1980s here. You just remove the lower receiver, same way that you would doing a normal field strip of the rifle. In fact you will have to do this any time you perform a basic field strip separating the upper and lower receivers to take out the bolt and clean the weapon.

      @superfamilyallosauridae6505 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@tallielintrasimpaccount to be completely fair, there's basically no other legal and handy anti-vehicle weapon. .50 cals struggle to take down vehicles in semi-automatic fire in a timely fashion, so there are probably some legitimate self defense uses for M433 HEDP.

    Brownells should make just the handguard. They look super cool. But without a grenade launcher under it, it would burn your hands. Id love just the handguard. Can't afford to buy all the reloading equipment to go with the grenade launcher.

  • @simon_96

    No safety wire on the mounting screws?

    • @jhensley71
      @jhensley71 5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Looks like the upper handguard covers the screws, possibly preventing them from backing out. But I'd at least put some thread locker on there.

    • @donaldfleming5049
      @donaldfleming5049 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      LMT does include the safety wire with the mounting kit. I would use that instead of thread lock to make removing the launcher a lot easier if needed.

  • @Jesses001
    @Jesses001 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Now the big question is do I want to set the M4 up with the launcher, or the M16? So hard to decide, ha. I do not have to decide right away since it is lower on my list of the retro line, but still need to decide eventually. Can not afford too have two launcher set-ups, haha.

    In wright v u.s. the ATF declared these as active firearm launcher since they diy bubba modified these to fire ammo. The ATF made up charges for wright because they only had one actual charge and that was that wright was entrapped and constantly pressured by an undercover to buy a single cut receiver parts kit from gunbroker and not a legally required triple cut parts kit.
    The ATF added the grenade launcher, a inert hollow rpg, and a disassembled m79 as illegally possessing a destructive device. They also made sure to freeze all of his assets so that he is not allowed a legal defense.

    Pretty dam sexy, used to carry the identical rifle / 40 mm in the air force when I was a security police. Yeah i got to inspect one in a gun store once, it was 37mm and i had a sig 716 and this was a direct fit, they wanted 400 plus tax and it came with cases and projectiles for chalk marking, but since it was restricted to just non lethal and could not legally use buck shot in it I decided it to expensive at the time. The LMT model is really too expensive, their are other models and makers that are less expensive and will fit your rail.

    Shouldn’t installing an M203 grenade/flare launcher be easier on the M16A4/M4A1 with the quad rail handguards?

    • @BSFilms1997

      I think the Daniel Defense RIS II allows you to mount the launcher directly on the rails to free-float the barrel rather than using the mounting bracket.

      Regardless of the dementions of the tube the ris rail is designed for the m203 mount witch is what this is, just with a 37mm tube to drop in I already got the response for their q&a section and they confirmed it works

    • @hugh2171
      @hugh2171 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      No.... you are wrong on soooo many things I didn't say this was the real m203 I said, if your reading comprehension is up to par, that the mounting solution for the RIS II rail is compatible. Im not really sure why I even bothered responding go to brownells and look at the q&a section someone already as the question I did and they not only said the risII would work they say the knights ras rail will as well
