I had the same read on "The Year Summer Ended in June" initially as you, that it was a breakup song until I got to the "I swear I tried to find those pictures Jordo" part and then found out it was a tribute to friends of the band who had died in a car accident with a drunk driver. You mentioned it was kinda all over the place, but I think that's what I like the most about it. It's like 4 and a half minutes of riffs, breakdowns, and different... stuff. a lot going on til it all ends in that huge final part.
I like you calling it nostalgic, not just because it reminds you of that early to mid 2000s metalcore style but also this whole record feels really dreamy, mostly in the production. I also didn't get into this band until just this year, and then I learned they were breaking up, so I made sure to get to one of their last shows and it was wonderful.
If you wanted additional songs from these guys, try stuff off Controller, their 2008 album. It's a lot heavier and they have a different vocalist, but "Weight of the World" and "A Certain Death" totally rip. Otherwise, "The Failsafe" and maybe one of their last tracks in "Old Ghosts" are other recommendations.

When you first pointed to your ear, was it your left ear? Mine was playing in my right ear. Just wondering if there's some image reversal in your video, or something funky going on on my end.

Virgin Steele? Yeah I mean a band that called Virgin Steele. Have you heard the band before?
